Can’t wait for Clive’s words on his performance! Been a while since we saw a Ref get escorted off by loads of stewards !

Poll: Now it’s slightly clearer cut who do you want as manager ?

It was a foul, no doubt. But it was just (like a few cm's) outside of the box, I've just seen a slow mo replay of it. Not making excuses for that dickhead ref mind, he had no bloody idea anyway.

Not sure which replay you’re watching but the one on sky’s highlights shows it’s clearly inside.

Bare bones.

These refs have it in for us big style , we are seen as the new Wimbledon and are penalised for everything whilst Armstrong has GBH commuted against him and nothing happens
The Football league want us relegated it’s obvious, it’s every week we have these corrupt refs

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

The ref was diabolical. Agreed it would have made little difference but so bored of seeing such ineptitude. Why can't a lino make a decision these days?

No-one has mentioned the JCS tackle down the loft end early in the match in our penalty box - I was right in front of it and thought it was a penalty to them.

The Armstrong one right up there with the Austin offside goal against Sunderland, if not as important.

The way yesterday went we'd have missed the penalty / failed to create anything against 10 men anyway.

The JCS tackle was perfectly timed and he won the ball. Never a penalty.

All about angles, I reckon. Was 3 rows from the front, dead in front of it, and just about the most biased, one-eyed Rangers fan you will find. And I thought, penalty, as did my son and the bloke next to me.

Not that it matters, all a game of opinions :-)

As versus Swansea we've been given a new referee at this level learning his trade.

In both games one would have hoped they'd send him out there with the best, most experienced assistants they could find for him, to help him through the experience. In both games the guy running the Ellerslie Road side of the ground was incompetent.

For the penalty, the referee isn't looking. He's looking at the previous incident in midfield. He's turned around, Armstrong's on the floor, he's no idea how he's got there, he listens to his ear piece, and he doesn't get the help and advice he needed from the lino on the far side who was fcking abysmal all afternoon. I actually feel a bit sorry for him on that.

Overall though, completely all over the place. Allowed Kelly to do as he pleased. Allowed a first half of systematic fouling with no yellows, then booked Smyth straight away. Lost control of the game.

The fundamental problem in all of this though is the talent pool. A group of senior, mainly mediocre, referees grew old together at the top of the prem - Friend, Moss, Dean etc. They've all retired together and they've had to suck up whatever they could find from the Championship, so now you've got people like Darren England up there fcking up on a weekly basis. And we're having to suck up fast tracked officials from the division's below before they're really ready for it - Bramall, Nield, Kitchen.

The money in the game in this country versus the recruitment, retention and training of referees is scandalous. A top flight referee should be on £1m+ a year basic, with extra match fees and bonuses on top. It should be a real desirable job to aim for, work in professional football, earn a big wage, be part of the Premier League. The training should be the best in the world. It should be professional right the way down through the leagues. The money is there, the sport is awash with money. Instead we pay peanuts, the management is jobs for the boys, the abuse and scrutiny is chronic, and so who would want to do that job? Fcking weirdoes and wnkrs, which is what we've got. There's no talent pool to select from, and so you have to promote people early who aren't good enough and hope they don't drown like the bloke did yesterday.

Tom Nield is a nurse. Good for fcking him, I wouldn't like to do that job. Would you like to do that job... and then come and referee Championship football? Do you feel like refereeing a Championship football game at the end of your working week? It's nuts that we have referees and assistants at our level that are basically part time, doing the job in their time off from the day job.

Yesterday's performance is sadly a symptom of the system they're operating in. And until they can spare some of their precious money to fix it, this will get worse before it gets better, because the abuse at lower levels is now so horrific and aggressive it's even driving away what few we do have who want to get into it.

Once again I suggest looking into all the players whose careers have got cut short by injury go straight to ref school.Every one that wants to stay in the game try and get their coaching badges but they should be encouraged and rewarded financially to be a ref.
They know the game ,would have respect from the players and be able to simply ignore the screaming home crowds that influnce almost every big decision ( except us at LF of course ).
To be brutally honest its the useless linesman that have killed us over the last few seasons .Why bother wearing a radio if you cannot see what happens in your area or why bother even running out in the first place

I thought all officials were professionals. I’m quite shocked that they’re not. What have I missed as i thought they were moved away from amateur to professional years ago?

Totally agree about salaries. Pay them peanuts and you just get the dregs (same in any profession, including politics) as anyone half decent at doing a job will do something else better paid.

Agreed the lino on Ellersie road was abysmal. He was getting some serious pelters from all sides .
I would love to be a fly on the wall in his house yesterday evening.
“ Have a nice day darling? “
“ No not really . I got a few decisions wrong and 12,000 people kept calling me a c**t”. I don’t think I want to do this anymore “
I was one of those people calling him a c**t and I don’t feel proud of it . I’m. 58 and should no better. However when you been to 20 games on the bounce and seen one win , it kinda of gets to you.
If any budding ref was at that game yesterday, they wouldn’t touch that profession with a barge pole.
Even with VAR they’re getting it wrong. At Spurs yesterday, a bloke had one Job and couldn’t get that right.
Don’t know what’s the solution.

Obviously Armstrong was fouled. But I don't think the keeper should have been sent off, because there was no denial of a goalscoring opportunity. Armstrong's first touch sent the ball about 15 yards away from the goal …

Fans are going to be biased. Some absolute morons who don’t think we’ve committed a foul in 30 years and every decision against us is a scandal but that’s football.

On Armstrong it’s obviously a foul. Not sure with the current rules it’s a red.

Been saying exactly this for a number of years. It's so blindingly obvious, yet it doesn't seem to be a subject that is even mentioned yet alone properly discussed. Anyone would think the Premiershit wants sh*t referees so the TV broadcasters can spend hours on end after each match discussing 'incidents' which the referees, and now the same useless cn uts operating VAR, got wrong......

I think that the relevant criterion for a red is whether he was making a genuine attempt to play the ball ( or not.)

The keeper was genuinely trying to get the ball, even if he made a complete arse of it. So penalty and yellow card would have been the correct decision.

I think this poster has hit it on the head .It was a clear penalty and yellow card but we got nothing and the rest is history .
Just as a side note who is the designated penalty taker right now its been so long since we got one I have forgotton .
Even if we got that goal back the damage was done at 2 -0 IMO
