Decent player.....proper right attitude to football. Class.

Sad thing is that he and his Dad Les, whom was fantastic when he came here from Spurs around 1966, do not talk much nowadays due to family friction. Proper shame that.

As an 8 year-old, the Cup Final season is my first real football memory... Almost 40 years later I can still repeat the Match of the Day commentary when the goal went in off his knee and take great pride when, with about 10 minutes remaining, there is a chant of "Rangers..." and Motson says "and the Rangers fans are really roaring them home" and I am still convinced to this day that me, my Dad and his two brothers started that chant....
Who knows what would have been if he hadn't got injured so early in the Cup Final (or if the goal in the replay wouldn't have been ruled out for a phantom offside).
Of course the interview reminded me of some other aspects of football in the 80s - when CA scored the winner against Palace in the cup and then celebrated in front of their fans and at the end the Palace supporters invaded the pitch and started charging towards us in Ellerslie Road I was scared out of my wits...

If you ever take the plunge Clive, I'm sure little Adel will be a very worthy successor to the LFW dynasty

To be fair, he got a lot of stick that game, so if we can't take it we shouldn't dish it out

It's being so happy that keeps me going.

Stood on the loft when he made his full debut, I hadnt heard about him but my older cousin said to me just before kick off "this kid's good", which I now nominate as understatement of the millennium. 90 minutes later he'd scored a hat trick and the rest is history.

Great article thanks for posting. He mentioned that QPR brought in Gary Banister before he went to Spurs to replace him .They both scored so many incredible goals for us and were part of some great teams and so much success who was better..I know how much QPR fans love Allen for that FA cup semi final winner but I suspect Bannister gets a lot of votes also

+ this.

My first football memory is the cup final of 82. I remember my mum going off into my nan's kitchen after Spurs scored saying that was that then...

Then I remember jumping up and down with my grandad when Fenwick powered in that header! I cried when we lost the replay...

82 was the beginning of football for me. Clive Allen, those finals followed by the Spain World Cup and my Woolworths Ladybird World Cup 82 book you could fill in the scores etc. Happy days...

For some reason, I never forgave Allen for 'leaving' us. Twice.

Whereas I had no problem with Dave Thomas for leaving us.

The logic of a child.

Quick plug for the autobiography if I may.

My eldest works for the publishing company - an independent that specialises in sports books. So you can purchase it knowing a lifelong R has been involved + you’re supporting a cool publisher.

100% agree - been watching QPR for over 40 years and he is the best. A natural goalscorer. Gutted when he left us especially the second time around.
We gave him a lot of stick in that 5-0 loss at Spurs - it's no wonder he gave us some back.

Losing him twice was hard, never forgot the joy of him returning, couldn’t believe he had to drop down a league, he would have done well in Spain, never needed a lot of chances.
