While you're absolutely right, you've missed the point of the post. The person they're having a pop at was slagging off our two most influential players last season long before they knew where their futures lay. He was undermining the team, the manager and the owners (at that point, but seems to switch allegiances fairly easily). And calling anyone a c*nt who dared to beg to differ. It's petty, internet point scoring. But fully justified, and a little bit of humour in an otherwise miserable season. I'm sure if the Res is man enough to dish it out, he's man enough to take it and admit his mistakes.

Not the best thing, no. But a much needed thing after being backed into a corner with very little option to turn to. Let a 15m striker walk away for free and keep a player that was refusing to play for us who both contributed to an awful style of play that scraped us survival by our collective nut sacks - or cash in and replace with players in the mould of what brought us success in the first few years. The decision is as easy now as it was then - sell. We did the first bit right, the second part was sadly lacking.

It's absolutely part of the question and why people were reluctant to see them go. Anyone who's watched us over the last x years (ever) knows that replacing talent is a lot easier said than done, and since we've been in the PL we've found it very, very hard to do. If you consistently sell your best players and don't replace with like quality you end up where we are. Simple. See S'ton for another example, or Stoke.

The 2 players in question were sold for 55 million, and “replaced” with 2 loan signings. Both unproven youngsters. Financial genius, sporting suicide!

Nope, it is not part of the question. They are completely seperate things. We can not afford to let any 15m striker leave for nothing and we cannot afford to have a player we can get 45m for sulking on the bench refusing to play. As upset as everyone is, it doesn’t mean common sense is thrown out of the window. We had to sell, we did sell. We then needed to replace adequately - we didn’t.
