Not knowing anything about that lot I can't comment on how relevant they are compared to Austin. The two key points in Austin's case are that the conditions of the move suited him and we had less than four months playing time left on his contract. [Post edited 18 Jan 2016 4:24]

Charlie agreed personal terms with Southampton on 04:47 - Jan 18 with 1560 views | exiled_dictator | i see david gold, co-owner at wet spam, has piped up saying that the austin deal is rubbish and not a bargain, because southampton might be paying ca 100 grand a week. this is the same twunt who had a public spat with himself last summer when they allegedly offered 15 mullion for him (they didn't), despite gold claiming he could break down at any moment and that he had no ccucuait ligaments in his knees. remind me david about andy carroll? cost you 15 mullion you pay him 80k a week has scored 17, yes seventeen goals for you in four years tell me david, is he injured at the moment? only if the day has a vowel in it, right? jealous? seemingly, so you have to publicly criticise charlie and southampton because he won't be your number 9 anytime soon. porn.

It's not whether Charlie is worth more than £4m, we all agree on that, as does the club. It hinges on a major factor: Would Charlie be prepared to go there. Unlike all those largely unknowns on your list, he has nothing to prove in the Premier. He doesn't have to take a move to get into the premier shop window; he's already done that with us. I'm sure someone desperate like Villa would have paid more for him. But he wouldn't have gone there for footballing or family reasons. We got the best we could under the circumstances and I think it helps the club to start looking to the future.

Ha! That made oi larf. Gold's got a problem 'ard on for Charlie, hasn't he? WH would have been a perfect fir for Charlie had Gold been prepared to pay the going rate both to the Club and on Charlies personal terms, but Gold fcked it up lol. Up yer corn 'ole Gold!

Charlie agreed personal terms with Southampton on 13:44 - Jan 18 with 1293 views | robith | We've gotten £4m for an asset with a contractual worth of under £1m which in 6 months we lose for free. By not selling earlier we also got 10 goals out of him. Struggling to see where the bad business is here? I think current mood is people just want to be annoyed by anything the club does
Charlie agreed personal terms with Southampton on 14:07 - Jan 18 with 1260 views | TacticalR | Why are Gold and Sullivan so obsessed with Austin? It makes you wonder if one of the secret clauses in West Ham's deal with the government was an agreement for HMG to pay Austin's wages.

I'm surprised we got what we did, when we did. Are people deliberately pretending not to understand the context of this deal?

Simpson another 'wrongun' (see Morrison thread), did well to get rid off for a fee. Problem was not getting a suitable replacement. I know he is playing now but how long has he been a regular starter? How many starts since he went there?
