Ramsey - Plan B. One Dimension that needs Diversity 17:31 - Oct 31 with 3695 viewsLofthope

For me, Ramsey's problem, is that he has no Plan B, no ability to change course, shuffle his pack, adapt or change direction. In my view, this is highlighted most often in the substitutions where, usually, it is like for like / position for position or a desperate knee jerk with little thought with regard to the team's balance.

Last night, at Brentford, we saw a bit of a change, in so far as Austin replaced Chery. But that and the subsequent substitutions suggested to me that he had given little or no thought to how the ball would be supplied to the forwards.....and let's face it they got little supply. If Austin was always going to be on the bench, then I would have expected there to be a Plan B for when he came on....seemingly not in my view.

If you are driving your car and you come across a road that is flooded, you need to devise an alternative route. I suspect Ramsey would try and drive his car through the flood because that was the only plan he had and isn't quick thinking enough to adapt to the circumstances.

Clearly the man has some very positive attributes, has a difficult remit etc, but this, to my mind is where he undermines all his good points.

Oh yes and BTW, the PB, 1D and Diversity 'puns'( Never quite understood why The Sun can't be honest with us and just replace the 'S' with a 'P') in the headline were deliberate as I am desperate to be 'spotted' by a talent agency for tabloid journalists so that I can write crap for cash rather than post on here for free...wannabee journo I hear you say? . With Simon Cowell's ratings failing, surely it can't be too long before we get 'Hack factor' or 'Strictly Come Drivelling' ?

Slightly off topic. How many times has Chery been taken off? He seems to be the sacrificial player most weeks. At some point he must surely be thinking ahhhh fcuk it! Whats the point?Im going to get hauled off anyway

Spot on. 3 like-for-like substitutions that demonstrated both a lack of ambition and tactical acumen.

Austin for Chery. Striker for midfielder.
Hoilett for Luongo. Winger for central
Perch for Hill. Right back for centre back

Argue against the changes, fine.
But suggesting that all 3 of these were "like-for-like" suggests that a) you weren't watching b) you'd made your mind up in advance without caring about what actually happened c) you're a wind up merchant

Possibly all of the above

Problem is not plan B - problem is plan A
Plan A = pass back or long ball at every opportunity
Plan B = replace the most attacking players and continue with plan A

Of course, in my original post, I didn't say that the substitutions at Brentford were 'Like For Like'.

However, I would question any assertion that the substitutions did much to change the structure of the team, except for the first two which, boiled down amount to Austin for Luango and winger for winger if you are willing to accept that Hoillet ended up where Chery had vacated. The perch substitution just shuffled the occupants of the back four positions....allright, it was about an injury rather than a tactical substitution, but to my mind it was a tactical opportunity missed. It certainly did nothing to change a structure that was clearly failing.

But that's my point, even when he brought on Austin, I don't think he had any plans for how the system would work, and tinkering with it to bring on Hoillet did nothing to impress me either.

Thing is, I want Ramsey to succeed, but he is in serious danger of losing my support.

What a lot of people see in Chery is a player who should be playing down the middle, in the next free roaming role, like the one Adel Taarabt played. Another huge talent potentially wasted. Why is it that us fans always see these things but the blokes paid a small fortune to manage our beloved team are blind to them.

Never knowingly right.

So so unbalanced, I don't know if it's a case of catch up but we have spnked millions on players with no real plan or thought about where and how they will play.

This is not unique to Ramsey as the other useless cnt before him done the same with Vargas / fer / Isla etc

As it stands we have

A right back that's a centre back
A centre back that really should have retired 2 years ago
We play with wingers that only go in one direction
A holding midfielder that hardly plays
2 defensive midfielders that can't defend or pass forwards
A natural number 10 striker that plays on the wing
Another holding midfielder that plays as an attacking midfielder
Another number 10 that appears to turn up when he likes
A striker that can't get a game even with our only other striker injured

The more I think about it the scarier it sounds, what else....

A left back that has gone missing and one that somehow has managed to secure a job as a footballer without being very good at it and Has legs made of papermache

Oh anther centre back that from the evidence I have seen can't header or kick the ball if under any pressure from an opposing player

And to top it off , a manager who can't manage and from what I have seen this season can't fking coach either but hey ho it's all about the stability

Now you've got Ramsey really worried!

Edit: Apologies, Lofthope. A couple of wrong connections there. Match82 was taking Benny the Ball to task, not you. So when you replied to Match82, I thought it was BtB replying. My mistake. I didn't think Chris Ramsey would feel any more comfortable if he knew Benny the Ball, the well-known troglodyte of Scandinavian folklore, had his back. Please continue.

He doesn't have a plan B it's as simple as that.
He continually makes like for like substitutions which have little impact on the teams performance.
Forest at home was a classic case, we go down to ten men,he takes off easily our best player on the day and we lose any attacking intent and never get out of our half again.
That was the worst 10 man performance I've seen, they just did not have a clue how to attack.
NW new the importance of having an attacking threat when outnumbered and played it brilliantly sometimes keeping two forwards up top.
CR just gave that one away.
Even his famous piece of tactical genius we keep hearing about against tactics Tim was Kevin Bonds brain child,he admitted that.
The last half hour at Brentford was like Forest at home,we may as well have had ten men.
He's out of his depth and has to be replaced.
However I just don't trust them to get the new manager right.

From what I have seen he doesn,t even have a plan A !

Before the game, most people were desperate to see JET and Austin up front together, we're a goal down in a derby and he changes formation, goes two up top in the hope it would make us more attacking. All of the changes supplemented the change of formation IMO.

Really, keeping the two slowest players on the pitch and replacing two of the fastest with a clearly unfit striker and one of the worst players I've ever seen.
Luongo was our only threat all game and Chery was far more likely to create something than that oxygen thief toilet.
Yet again his substitutions weakened us.

Ramsey is clearly out of his depth, but with Tim Sherwood now ominously available i've decided i'd rather keep Ramsey, finish 14th or thereabouts and then replace him next summer with a properly scouted manager.
