A Saint Marches In For Charity.

Regular posters on www.theuglyinside.net will be aware that messageboard member EarlsCourtSaint is about to deploy to Afghanistan with the RAF reserves and I have no doubt that he goes with the best wishes of all Saints fans.

ECS or Colin to give him his real name will be leaving his work and family behind for this tour of duty as of course he is not in the regular RAF, but as a member of the reserve can be called up to supplement the regular troops.

But this sacrifice for his country isnt enough for him and he is taking more of his time before he departs to help raise money for Soldiers who have been injured during active service.

The money raised will go to two causes, Help[ For Heroes perhaps needs no introduction to many, it raises funds for help those military personel who have suffered serious injury and need help and support as they adjust to a life far different than they had envisaged.

Troop Aid is perhaps less well known, when Troops return to the United Kingdom from the war zones they arrive back without their personal effects or clothing. The objective of Troop Aid is to supply the Basic Essentials when service casualties are admitted to Hospital.
Both are admirable causes and Colin and his colleagues of 4626 Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron, RAF Reserves want to raise a significant amount for them by "Marching The Ridgeway". - an 87.5 mile hike along Britains oldest road in the hope of raising at least £10,000
The aim is to walk from Ivinghoe Beacon, Bedfordshire, in the East to Overton Hill, Wiltshire, in the West in just under 53 hours, finally finishing at the Squadrons home at RAF Lyneham by 3pm on Saturday 7th August.

You can make donations to help them achieve their objectives by visiting
4626 Squadron is a unit of medical Reservists who specialise in the Aeromedical Evacuation of casualties in areas such as Afghanistan and Iraq. Over the past few years many members of the Squadron have served, and will continue to serve, alongside their regular counterparts to ensure our service personel continue to receive the highest possible standard of medical care from point of wounding all the way home to the UK. Most members of the Squadron will work for the NHS on a full time basis as Doctors, Nurses or Paramedics although many will also work for other organisations and train and qualify with the RAF Reserves as a Medic - all will give up their valuable free time to be members of the Squadron and to deliver the quality of care our service men and women deserve.

Good luck EarlsCourtSaint. I always think the sacrafices you guys make puts our obsession with a few overpaid blokes kicking a football around in perspective.

Can I take this opportunity to make everyone aware of a live music festival at Damerham in the New Forest this Saturday featuring a number of local bands. All funds raised are for Help for Heroes and children in need. www.damerhammusicfestival.co.uk
