Southampton Receive Formal Transfer Request In Writing From Player
Friday, 26th Jul 2024 13:14

Saints have apparently had an official transfer request handed in to them by a player desperate to leave, but Southampton supporters will not exactly be rocked by this news.

According to sportswitness usually one of the more reliable sources of transfer news, Southampton have been handed an official transfer request by Paul Onuachu.

They state that the striker is unhappy at the fact that he has been forced to return to training at Staplewood and has handed in the request after speaking with Russell Martin.

The Turkish media are also running the story and it seems that the Turkish club who are so desperate to sign Onuachu that they are willing to pay around £5million are now upping their pressure campaign on Saints to sell a player whose value on transfermarkt is still around the £12 million mark, some £4 million less than Southampton paid in January 2023.

If Onuachu has indeed put in the transfer request to Saints, then perhaps he would do well to also put in a similar request to Trabzonspor and ask them to stop mucking around and if they rate him so highly, to actually pay something like his market value.

Saints here are doing nothing wrong, they too would like to see Onuachu leave, but they are not willing to give him away, the media is full of stories either emanating from Turkey or Nigeria all saying a deal is close, that Trabzonspor have upped their offer, but the truth is it only goes up a little as the Turks try to get the player on the cheap and put pressure from all sides.

If I was Onuachu I would be extremely frustrated at the delays in signing him and i would be suspicious and worried about joining a club who seem to act in this manner.

By putting in a formal transfer request I believe this means the player waives the right to any loyalty bonuses etc. thus saving the selling club (Saints) some money. From tall Paul’s perspective I guess the hope is that Saints would be more inclined to receive a lower fee if they haven’t got to pay out to him. Given the relative lack of service he has given Saints I would say that waiving his right to loyalty bonus should be a bare minimum!

Can’t blame the guy. Has had a bad time at Saints after doing really well in Belgium and Turkey, scoring plenty of goals. Doesn’t seem wanted by Russ?

I'm with WoolstonSaint. Imagine finally fulfilling your dream of getting a move to the Premier League - almost certainly his one and only shot at it. Being sold the club and how you'd be our saviour from relegation, giving it everything you've got - even if that's not enough or the wrong style - only to hardly be given a game.

Our scouting and how much we decided to fork out for him in desperation is hardly Paul Onuachu's fault. If we've paid so massively over the odds for a player that only a handful of clubs are now interested in at comparatively low money, then that's on us not him.

It's obvious that RM doesn't want him to play for us, we're committed to RM for a while, so it's time to cut our losses, get the best offer from whoever wants him and move on. Hopefully learning some lessons on the way. Lessons that the club seems to have ignored over many years and different owners.

We could always loan him to Goztepe?
It seems to me that Trabsonzpor want him for next to nothing, lets call their bluff and say £10 million (or there about) or he stays with us and gets loaned out.
I appreciate that its not his fault that Nathan Jones didn't last or that he doesn't fit Russels style but we can't afford to just give him away!

Ralph brought him in and wingers to provide him. The club immediately sacked Ralph and subsequent managers, including the current one, didn't know how to utilise his talent!
Only once did I see a high cross for him to attack. 20 yards out and hit the post. Seen him play 3 times in Turkey. He'd flourished in the PL: he has a beast of a shot . Like a Peter Crouch upgrade.
I feel sorry for him having been messed about by the club. Hope his next dream has a better outcome

He scored loads of goals in Belgium. Struggling to see why no one wants to make a reasonable offer for him. I'm guessing wages are the problem so it's really up to him to decide what he really wants.

SaintPaulVW, how often have you seen Onuachu play? He looks totally unathletic and has the ball skills of a lower league player. He reminds me a lot of a player called Emmanuel Dieseruvwe, who scores goals in the lower leagues, often off his knee, but is nowhere near good enough for the Premier League.

ericofarabia you don't think they woke one January morning and decided to buy Onuachu? It takes months and he was Ralph's choice before he was removed in November.
Before trying to be clever maybe you should learn about football!
