Saints Internationals Linked With Summer Exits
Wednesday, 11th Apr 2018 12:25

Redandwhitesupporter takes a look at the news that two of the squad might be leaving whether we stay up or not.

Two of Saints' international stars have been linked with moves away from the club this morning in the media with the reports stating both Ryan Bertrand and Dusan Tadic will seek moves away regardless of whether the club remains a Premier league side or not.

According to the Daily Mirror, Bertrand has eyed up for a reunion with his former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho at Manchester United, however the report also states he face competition from former Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino at Tottenham, and Rafa Benitez at Newcastle United, however if either of the former sides interest is concrete you wouldn't give the latter much chance of completing a deal.

The current England left back will no doubt be high in demand this summer, with his performances on the pitch this year perhaps already hinting to fans he is planning for life away from the south coast, with the prospect of relegation looming large for Saints in will be difficult stand in his way should the club fall through the premier league's trap door in May.

Serbian playmaker Tadic is another to be touted with a move away, with reports in his native country and Italy stating a move to Serie A beckons come the summer window, with Milan of either AC or Inter the hinted destination.

Both players although quality footballers, haven't hit the heights of previous years this season and have have had criticism from supporters for being disinterested during games at times so perhaps a break will be of the interest to both parties regardless of the outcome this season.

No doubt this will be the first, in many stories linking players away from Saints given our league position at present.

The club and players need to put all this too one side, and fully concentrate on the job at hand over the next seven games and nobody wants a relegation on their CV.

A re build of the squad is well needed this summer and it will be interesting to see what happens come the end of the season once again.

Need to keep Targett then ideal replacement for Bertie and now has championship experience

Agree with the_saint about keeping Targett. It was reported that no-one from the club has contacted him since he left on loan, which is appalling. He is someone we will definitely need when Bertrand moves on.

I imagine there's going to be a clear out regardless, but if we go down I fully expect Bertrand, Cedric, Forster, Lemina, Davis, Carrillo, Boufal, Tadic and one or two of Austin/Gabbiadini/Long to go at the end of the season, and maybe Romeu too. With Reed, Targett and Gallagher to come back in, we'd actually have a pretty strong and experienced squad of local talent in the Championship.

Apart from one or maybe two, if we go down you can sell the lot of them. Im sick of looking at them anyway. Endless overpaid underperforming twerps. At least it's possible to build a team and keep them together fro a seaon or so in the Championship.
We used to lose good performing players after one season - now one good game and numbskull commentators are saying so and so should go to Arsenal immediately (Garth Crooks). I'm sick of it.

Some of the players above might benefit from a spell in the league below and getting their confidence back. We just haven’t had any sort of run in the last 14 months ..

But overall It might be best to get rid of a large chunk of the players for whom it is not as good as it used to be at Saints when we had ambition etc

2 things on new players though

1 is Ross Wilson and Les a team we trust anymore with future buys ?
2 I feel we must draw up deals in the future with clauses that hit new players if they leave us in under 3 years. I accept players move on but Too many left after 2 years and with new players we must try a new systems with contracts. Not sure how you structure it but with a new dawn and team rebuild let’s get a bit tougher and less of a rollover.

Otherwise what’s the point of going through it all again.

Ross Wilson,Les reed and Krueger I also don't think Jaidi and kelvin are that good as coaches or assistants we could do better but the above mentioned need to go otherwise the same rakes will be trod on, these numpties need a long look in the mirror, our team in the championship : Mc'carthy,Targett,Stephens,Yoshida,Valery,JWP,Reed,Redmon,Simms,Long,Austin and the rest can all do one as far as I'm concerned, it will be a while before we come up again and to think the budgets of Swansea and Bournemouth have outfoxed our incompetent board hands down, what a joke booooo

No big loss there then with either. Tadic is a weak link in the team and Bertrand doesn't seem the player he was. Overpaid and underperforming both of them!

We wouldn't want them anyway in the Championship. Both look disinterested now, imagine them both next year !
As mentioned, we'd be looking at McCarthy, Targett, Sims, McQueen, Stephens, JWP, Hesketh, Austin etc, so that's fine by me. Maybe Romeu will stick around to captain. Carrillo having only just signed will imo be just the ticket in the Championship to.
Anyway, we're ahead of ourselves; we're staying up & winning the cup !

Can I just say its disgusting that these sort of stories are finding their way into the press before the end of the season. Players and their agents should even be thinking about next season until this season is over.

Why would Cedric, Romeu, Lemina or Hojberg hang around here after the drop either? Of course they won't.

The prospect of a team full of Stevens', Ward Prowse's and Redmond's fills me with stomach retching dread.

What's Brett Ormerod doing these days and Danny Fox still has life in him. Even better Danny Butterfield and Kelvin are on the payroll. Should be good for a top ten finish in League 1.

One good thing about near certain relegation is that I genuinely don't care about all this. Let them all go. Personally I don't blame the players for relegation - the decline in squad strength was caused by a certain idiot in the boardroom - but I just don't care...

With the performances against Newcastle and West Ham still in my memory, there are a number of players who do not have the necessary respect for the shirt or who deserve to put on the shirt. I think there must be a clean out in the team and the management and if we have to start from scratch again it will be worth it if it means we will have committed people that we the fans can support. Having said that there are still 7 games left for some to redeem themselves and show the character and commitment that has been lacking especially in the last few months. I think there are a number that I would like to still see here that could form the nucleus of a descent squad next year but others have been a great disappointment and I think we and they know who they are. For these rumours to be circulating now shows what a shabby industry professional football has become.

It amazes me teams are even interested in any of our players, judging by their attitudes. You get paid a lot of money, regardless of who is in charge you put in a shift. End of.

Obviously nobody considers it an honour to wear our particular Under Armour shirt any more.

Mind you I never did understand what this particular epithet was suppose to mean to fans anyway, can we really get excited about a few ounces of ghastly lycra.
