Good Luck To Dean Hammond Monday, 2nd Sep 2013 15:20
Saints midfielder Dean Hammond has joined Leicester City on a two year deal to end his four year stay at St Marys.
Dean Hammond was one of the first players to arrive at St Marys after Marks Liebherr took over the club and spent the first three years as not only a first team regular but also as captain as Saints recovered from a change of manager to win the game of catch up with Huddersfield and win automatic promotion from league one.
Although Dean would be a regular in the following season as promotion was clinched for a second successive year it would soon be clear that Dean would not be a part of the plans for the top flight.
Unfortunately Dean is one of those players who are more than good enough in the Championship but not quite good enoughfor the Premier, sadly a group that is increasing rapidly of late.
So now Dean joins Leicester City a club looking to emulate Saints, good luck to Dean, a player who although not quite a Saints legend, played a decent part in its history and fully deserves to bevremembered fondly by Saints fans and thanked should he return in the future with Leicester or otherwise.

Yes, Dean always put in a good shift and what a cracking goal he scored against Leeds at home in the championship. Thanks Dean and the very best of luck to you

Curious Leicester fan here. What kind of player are we getting?

best of luck Dean, and a big thanks for your part in the rise of Saints through the leagues, but agree, dont think he is quite EPL standard.

foxinpeace - he's a player who always makes himself available in the middle of the park, and whilst never eye-catching, keeps the play ticking over nicely. Scores a few as well.

A player who will always be well thought of by Saints Fans. As you say he was never going to be part of our plans once we got to the the Premier League, that does not mean he could not do a job for another Premier League club, it's just we have big ambitions and more quality was needed. Foxinpeace you are getting a player who is at his best sat in front of the back four , a strong tackler who can at times push forward and get in a decent shot or get in a good header from a free kick. A leader type player who always puts in consistant performances.

Good luck to Dean Hammond. I am surprised he has gone to Leicester as he was the mainstay of Brighton last season.

Six games in just four weeks, with four of them against sides also in the bottom six. By March we should be either well clear of danger, or even deeper in the sh*t. With Danny Cowley’s U’s still unbeaten, and looking stronger game on game, I’m sure it’ll be the former, but first we have to do our bit to consign Steve ‘Sour Grapes’ Cotterill’s FGR back to non-league. After our shambolic 5-0 defeat at New Lawn, nothing would give me greater pleasure, even if it meant losing one of my closest awaydays in the process.
