Eyre Force One
Eyre Force One

The bookies have stopped taking bets on the vacant manager's job at Spotland, with all reports suggesting that City youth supremo Steve Eyre will be named as the new Dale boss on Monday.

As we reported on Friday, there's not a great deal known about Eyre. What we do know is that he is very well thought of within the game, he has been at City in various coaching positions for a number of years, and his Dad is Fred Eyre - the well known Manchester footballing personality.

Eyre's appointment has been put forward by Sky Sports with one of their "SkySports understands..." style stories both with a story on Saturday saying that he would be offered the job, and on Sunday afternoon saying that he had accepted the position.

Dale chairman Chris Dunphy had told the BBC last week that he expected an announcement to be made on Monday.

Not trying to be witty, I just want as we all do, RAFC to enter into a sustained period of improvement...And success. We all deserve that, surely. I was turning up every week in the early 70's from cheering promotion to quickly witnessing the horrors by 1974 and beyond.I can see where you are coming from but with such a negative view! Let's give the man a chance. I believe a lot of thought and certainly not knee jerking has resulted in this appointment. Cheers G...

Congratulations Geraldo on giving Mr Eyre his first impression of Rochdale fans... Deary me why bother even writing anything in public if that nonsensical drivel is the best you can manage? Anyway may i congratulate Mr Dunphy on what could prove to be a simply inspired appointment. Young, energetic, well connected within the game, up to date with all the modern advances in the game and clearly hungry for excess! Mark Robins? Are you having a laugh? Deary me!

Welcome to the gang Steve! We are behind you now untill the end!

I'm excited by this appointment. Look at a few of the Man City youth players that have come through with Eyre at the helm; Micah Richards, Nedum Onouha and Michael Johnson a few of these. They have a good record at youth level even before all the money and with United next door no doubt attracting the best players from the area. He is clearly a well respected manager in the reserves and youth leagues which will go a long way to helping us bring in some exciting and potentially match winning youngsters on loan or even on cheap transfers. It seems he's waited his chance to step into football management and we should take it as a compliment that Rochdale are the club he has decided to start his first team management career with. Hopefully he continues to play a good, passing game like we are all used to seeing under Hillcroft and this can be backed up with a solid defence (new goalkeeper and centre half vital). Another top half finish will be just impressive as last year, if not more impressive. He needs the fans to get behind him and support him like we did Hilly. Looking forward to the new season, Up the Dale!

No hard feelings Phil26, and I am genuinely interested to see who we can sign.
A striker with a good goal instinct is sorely needed to complement COG's excellent ball holding.
Roll on August.

A massive warm welcome to Steve Eyre. I hope you are happy here at Rochdale. Please don't forget, not one of us in the stands around Spotland are capable of what you are about to do! Good luck.

hi all city fan here in peace to give you a "heads up" on your new appointment!

Firstly congratulations on a very shrewd appt. City tried everything they could to hold on to Steve. He has been an important part of the scouting/youth development/coaching staff for 20 or so years. As many of you are aware city have probably one of the best academies in the P.L. many many players have come through to a high standard and went on to play for city and many other top class outfits!

I watch many youth and reserve games and I can tell you that he is very focussed and tactically excellent. He will get the most outof your players for sure.

I am extremely annoyed city didn't keep him, but our loss is your gain. I will watch Dale with interest this year and I expect an excellent season from you!

Any player he brings in will be first class! he has good friends/contacts throughout the game. I never saw one of his sides play poorly-always good passing football with tactical nouse!

Well done dale!
