Time to move Key?
at 21:20 28 Nov 2024

He’s always been an intelligent and versatile player.

He just doesn’t have that X factor to set him apart. Not big or powerful. Not pacy. Doesn’t have a trick to skin a defender. He’d be a top player if he had any of those to compliment his vision and attitude.

I quite like him effectively sharing a role with Allen, even though Allen sits deeper and they play it very differently.

Nobody has up arrowed anything

All I said was it’s impossible to be as dominant as we were for 20 minutes against a team of a similar level. I’ll stand by that no matter who disagrees with me.

These forums should be about discussing Swansea City. Why do you persist in making everything about you?

I don’t have any questions. I was making statements.

He did what he does every game, regardless of whether we are on top or getting battered. The difference yesterday was a flash of absolute magic for the goal

I’ve said before, his shooting is sharp. He can get a shot away with little time or back lift and get good power and accuracy on it. He doesn’t get on the ball enough to do it often, but I’ve noticed it a couple of times with shots that have been blocked or gone just wide.

I didn’t realise he could do that with both feet.

Needs to get much more involved in our attacks. That’s his responsibility, not Grimes’ or Ronalds or whoever.

It’s not possible to do that for 90 minutes against teams of a similar standard.

It was beautiful for 20 odd minutes I agree

Absolutely. That looks impressive to some people because he’s sprinting, but it’s just a waste of energy.

If you’re doing it like Piroe did, with two quick wingers marking your passing options, that’s another story but doing it on your own is pretty pointless.

Not a criticism of the player there, he’s obviously been told to do it.

This is where the Connor Roberts thing comes in.

It makes a lot of sense (if affordable) were we either to sell Key or move him further upfield.

I’m not comfortable with Christie there, don’t mind Naughton but he can’t play all game, every game. Haven’t really seen enough of Parker, but from the little I have, he seems more attack minded.

I actually thought Derby looked good. We destroyed them for 15/20 minutes, but they looked a decent team when they got back into it.

I’m not surprised Jerry Yates is doing well there. I can see him suiting that type of football.

On the Vipotnik point, that finish was absolutely class. To instinctively get a shot like that away on his weaker foot was outstanding.

But then, from the second minute on, he did what he does every game. Closed Derby down hard when they were trying to play out from the back, made himself available as an outlet in our own half, gave players time to catch up and laid it off when we were pinned into our own box.

Did very little in an attacking sense until he was subbed.

Before anyone trots out the ‘we have to create for him’ line, he has to play a part in that himself. He did for his goal. He needs to do that, as well as find space in dangerous areas.

Harsh I know as he’s young and inexperienced and learning a new language, but if he’s going to be our main striker, he’s either got to score more often than every four or five games, or he’s got to contribute more to our attacks.

Tyler Morse looks set to take on a more prominent role

Would a hotel there work?

I can see the logic in a premier inn or something, but Morses portfolio seem to be high end, expensive hotels in prime locations. I know nothing about the industry, but can’t see the demand for that in Landore

Swansea City : Those errors continue in a right old thriller

Too many people seem to be under the impression we are still managed by Russelll Martin and just won’t accept that.

You’d think we were still knocking it around the back four with no intent to get it forward reading some of these threads.

I’m not hammering him. I think he’s done a fantastic job overall. To be leading twice yesterday and equalise against a team like that is some effort when probably every outfield player on their bench would stroll into our starting line up.

It’s fair to criticise what I thought was naivety though. Just because you rate or don’t rate a manager doesn’t mean you have to agree or disagree with everything they do.

This needs to be taken account when judging the manager. Our bench was

Bianchini
Christie
Fulton
Abbey
Abdulai
McLaughlin
Naughton
Tjoe-A-On

Who in that list doesn’t weaken us considerably? The only real arguments you can make are Bianchini for Peart-Harris and Bianchini/Vipotnik for Cullen.

Possibly that will change if and when Eom, Ginelly, Govea and Parker are available, but at the moment we’re playing a squad game with not much more than a starting eleven.

No excuses. I thought not settling for a point given the way the game had gone, the way we conceded the other three goals and the quality Leeds were able to bring on compared to us was a mistake.

Even from the point of view a last minute draw in a raucous atmosphere in the first game under new ownership would have given us a lot of impetus.

Great to see we can give what isn’t far off a PL team a hell of a game though, even if they were the better side.

That’s fair enough and I’d have been all over it if we’d sneaked a win.

The way the game was playing out though, both teams, but especially us were vulnerable when we were attacking. The chances of conceding by losing possession in their half were far higher than they are in most games. They were countering with pace, intricacy and numbers we just couldn’t handle.

No issue with the Milwall one at all, but yesterday was one of the moments we needed to take stock IMO.

Having said that, it’s exactly what we did for the last few minutes at Burnley and that went wrong too.

The Milwall one at 0-0 when we were battering them I can take as one of those things. They hadn’t really threatened all game.

Leeds when we were holding our own, but they looked so dangerous on the counter attack was just naive. That point would have been a huge morale booster.

That was the frustration for me. I know it’s easy with hindsight, but 3-3 would have been a cracking result and set us up for Derby and Portsmouth with a bit of momentum. Especially with an injury time equaliser.

Leeds had scored three similar goals by turning us over high up the pitch and breaking quickly down the wings. I’m not sure they’d have been able to break us down if we’d just sat back and taken the draw. Think we should have been pragmatic there.

Burnley - 9 shots 4 on target
Watford - 12 shots 3 on target
Oxford - 16 shots 5 on target
Milwall - 17 shots 5 on target
Sheffield Wednesday 9 shots 1 on target

In all of the last 5 bar Burnley, who I think most agree are one of the best teams in the league, we have had more shots (i.e. created more chances) than the opposition. Watford, Oxford and Milwall didn’t come close to us.

I don’t expect it to be like that today against Piroe, Rodon and co, but I do against Derby and Portsmouth.

He’s tightened us up and the back to the extent only Burnley, Leeds and Sheffield United have conceded less than us.

We’re regularly creating more chances than our opponents, accepting that won’t be the case when we are playing recent PL teams with big budgets.

We’re just not converting enough of them at the moment.

One up front with two wingers. Three in midfield with fullbacks overlapping. Nobody in midfield who runs directly at defenders or plays defence splitting passes. Doesn’t suit strikers who can’t compete with centre backs physically.

If you’re not sure what’s happening, listen to the commentator.
