We're a football club If "all the major responsibilities lay elsewhere", who's in charge of overseeing the performance of the manager? It's a question i've asked a couple of times; no-one seems to have any answers as yet It's pretty useless anyone saying McNulty should "use Plan B" (he hasn't got one), "he should be sacked" (who's going to find his replacement?) or he "should be given more time" - by whom? Who's in charge of the football side of things? Once we have some kind of answer to that question - THEN, we can start to take the necessary steps to the brighter future the fans deserve, and the Ogdens deserve for their investment and initiatives in non-football matters |

And sadly, i think you're right Apart from anything else - and as i alluded to yesterday - it's not just about sacking the manager, it's having the experience, contacts and understanding of what's required at our level to make an informed choice about a replacement With Gauge still seemingly involved, he got his fingers burnt twice with managerial choices before plumping for the "in-house" option, and that's where we find ourselves The Ogdens have no experience in the game, although i dare say they can see as clearly as anyone when something isn't working In terms of how things are evolving, and which may explain McNulty's current dog's breakfast of tactical incompetence, this is informative: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/c20l7lw3ypzo He's just following trends, but with players who aren't up to it. Clarity of thought on the pitch has gone right out of the window, and my god, does it show! |

There's a gaping hole in the football decision-making at the club The Ogdens aren't steeped in the game, and seem to have defaulted the football decisions to the previous regime - who themselves weren't steeped in the game It showed before, and it's showing now So, who's going to take that decision? I really don't think the Ogdens would want to take that on - just yet |

The draining of all initiative, spontaneity, JOY from kicking a football for a living As pros, the players have careers to watch so they're likely to go along with things to a certain extent. Not a single one of them is going to come out and say "i'd rather be playing a different style of football" especially the younger ones who might well've been coached along similar lines since they were kids It's a bit like the recent "Be Kind" meme, except we're kind to the opposition |

I doubt he has an ounce of remorse, but what's also missing is an oĆ¹nce of honour. Is that someone the Ogdens want to be in business with? When they took over last year, they wouldn't have had that picture, but been sold the tale of how he'd rescued the club. As you say, it was the fana and in particular the shareholders who did that by getting rid of Bottomley and his fellow travelers Do the Ogdens now have the bigger picture? There's signs that they do, with the leadership reorganisation. Gauge needs to go, along with Pockney. It was a tiny percentage of shares that voted against the latter continuing as a director at the last AGM, but many don't really see that bigger picture and probably didn't want to rock the boat with the Ogdens. Things are moving on now and for Dale to succeed both on and off the pitch, further work is needed McNulty is a Gauge appointment. The Ogden plan is going nowhere with either of them on board [Post edited 22 Feb 8:55]

That includes a memorable hat-trick in a game against (i think) Brighton, a 3-3 draw With the loss of Vinnie Leech through injury, he came in and filled that gap, and more RIP |

"Part of the problem is we are tortoise like in transition allowing opponents to easily get back and defend deep in numbers." It's not part of the problem, it's the key to JM's way of playing, which leads to invariably trying to unlock a massed defence and handing our opponents a huge advantage from every kick-off I referred to the Yeovil game earlier, where it looked like we'd found the right balance. Setting our forwards free against a retreating (not settled) defence is the surest way to create good chances. That absolutely doesn't mean "hoof ball" - it means using a minimum of effective passes to breach a defence. Jim's going for some kind of maximum, and we're snookered [Post edited 20 Feb 14:34]

Sadly, that's the only conclusion that can be drawn (an agreement) How, or why, that could happen, or be allowed to happen, i've no idea, but if i'm wrong - and i've said this before - it'd be grounds on it s own for McNulty's dismissal At the same time, i can't for the life of me imagine why Hendo would be party to it, at almost certainly the end of a stellar career in Dale terms. If it's not his last season as a pro, lack of deployment would indicate he wouldn't get another year at Dale Forget Mitchell - until the end of this campaign, no Hendo, No Party |

The Yeovil performance, just before the Fans Forum was worth watching but that now stands as a stark reminder of McNulty's inability to produce anything like the kind of consistency required of a team more than capable of a playoff place He's now being seen as the hindrance to the club's ambitions he threatened to be, right from the outset It's pretty damned useless anyone saying "we need to sort our attempts on goal out" when the person responsible for us being so abject in the box is still in charge It's impossible to sell this style of play. It's like going to a dry pub - what's the point? Entertainment is the ONLY point to be respected, win, lose or draw [Post edited 20 Feb 0:12]

All good points As you say, the accounting lead (as would be expected with the Ogdens) came across well. At the same time, a former accounting lead was voted through for a further period as a director but one wonders what he's contributing these days Perhaps he's acting as Adam Saul's underling, lining up the beans to be counted, as it were |

Could absolutely be a defining moment for McNulty Grab it, go for it, send a message that he's on board with the revival of our brilliant football club which started when the Ogdens stepped in Just don't go out onto the pitch before kick off, applaud the fans and then deliver the ultimate damp squib of a non-performance The way the new management team market this will also be interesting |

Hmmm... does that qualify as "bed-wetting", a term you used recently to describe experienced fans who can see our loss of form with clear eyes and a dry repose at night? [Post edited 16 Feb 12:41]

Failure to utilise Hendo's class in seeking the playoffs whilst parading him in meaningless fixtures against youth teams is the kind of utter bollocks that would be enough - on its own - to deserve the sack It's as if it's some kind of arrangement, but Hendo is on a wage and if reports of him hanging up his boots in a couple of months are correct, he needs to be front and centre (literally) of the remaining games [Post edited 15 Feb 18:43]

Great point On that same theme, it's not that our current Trust rep has "gone native" as some suggest, he always was "native". A really decent guy, but imo not representative of the fanbase. There's a place for diplomacy, but it needs more than that [Post edited 15 Feb 12:44]

It's an interesting point. Is there anyone within the club setup (with any influence) who was around when CD was part and parcel of the Dale story around the time of our first promotion? Someone who could make that connection with him? I ask this, because there's a multitude of fans who're very well aware of how vital he was to our success at that time, but that collective memory mightn't exist within the club itself - part of the reason why we sometimes feel as if there's a disconnect between club and fanbase |
