They has been a number of issues this season as the club has grown, some superficial I would say, but the main concern seems to be untrained staff at the club, and a lack of vision which directly affects income streams and more directly the fans who pay the wages, salaries etc ... To an extent.

The board may well have run its course, or - it may well be planning now to upgrade its thinking to compete more logically with supporter reaction. So - what would it take for the supporters to take a more direct approach to the problems raised this year ?

Are the board that untouchable that they feel nobody would directly tackle certain ineptitude, i mean they saved the club etc .... That no matter what went wrong on the surface they are kept safe from a more stronger fans reaction.

Just a thought. What would it take ?

The problems out lined should be easy enough to trace back to find out who is accountable for the problems. If there is nobody then give that responsibility to someone. If the person doesn't action plan some improvements post haste then sack them and employ Belfast.

And it's that feeling of poor customer service and that "they" don't care about ordinary fans I meant when, in another thread I said if I felt taken for a mug I would stop going.
At the moment my concerns are very minor but they are growing.
No matter what the board did, without the fans backing Swansea City would not be where it is today. Ok, most of today's fans weren't there for it, but a few thousand of us were. We can't single out new fans and disregard them but ticket prices across the board need looking at. So does ticketing, the club shop stock replenishment levels, the website, food and drink vendors AND STADCO and our arrangements with them. The club has moved on, so every aspect of it needs bringing up to date.

The Clash had the same problem, they refused point blank to appear in the premier league version of 'top of the pops' , then struggled like hell for years trying to be the ' fans band '

Similarities ......

Not sure about 'customer service' Belf. I don't want to feel like a customer, I want to feel like a member of a privileged club. I want to be part of something not a consumer of something.

But the same thing achieves either objective, as excellent customer service is inclusive and makes the customer feel an important and valued part of the organisation.

Although I know we want to be more special to our club than a unit of revenue, and hopefully to some extent we still are.

Possibly to sometimes receive shoddy, disorganised service rather than polished customer service might be seen as endearing, a sign that we are still a human club rather than a business machine.

However if we do not address these things as they arise (especially the simple things) then it does not figure for me. I think we can be well organised and inclusive

It's that feeling of detachment that many have mentioned that worries me. All very well saying it's all in people's heads but perception is everything ... something the club have historically been awful in managing.

Is it the clubs responsibility to manage public expectation?

And what is good Phaedrus, and what is not good. Need we ask anyone to tell us these things?

Good god yes. Absolutely. Just look at that bungled dividend announcement and subsequent non-announcement of the second one. What could have been spun quite easily then becomes an issue to some. They don't help themselves.

Oh and Jackonicko,'s post all day long. The Trust, and in particular the Trust director, have a difficult balancing act but their fundamental principles need to always be at the forefront of all decisions. There are good people involved there though.

In a nutshell.

Whilst the board deserve immense credit for getting us where we are, the day we stop challenging their actions and asking the difficult questions is when we'll deserve to get f*cked over again. They've done an awful lot right, but there's still room for improvement. It's the fans job to make sure that they strive to do so.

As for the Trust Director, I've yet to see him say anything that even remotely contradicts the "official" line.

I think the major issue is that we are the first and only fan-based/run club in the most commercialised league in the world. This almost inevitably creates a confusion as we on a weekly basis come against clubs and fans at a completely different expectation level to ourselves... which raises questions as to whether what we have is better, or if the grass on the other side of the fence is the better way to do things.

As someone who has worked on match day experience/hospitality at a number of clubs, I will tell you a cautionary tale that I experienced only a couple of weeks ago - at the Etihad. Man city have recently tendered out their stadium management to a merger between Legends, a massive american company and Jamie Oliver. The aim is to provide a 'fancentric' experience in response to the concerns of fans getting what they perceived to be a poor service, considering the expense they pay to be there. The result? In the words of a fan I talked to: 'I got shouted at by an american man in black on my way in, found an organic pie for double the price on the food stalls which was cold and an atmosphere like I was at an american football game... I've had a season ticket for 20 years, where has my club gone?'

Basically, be careful on what you wish for! This doesn't mean that the club shouldn't make changes, there are certainly areas that could do with improvement... however, patience is key at the risk of making massive, diabolical changes all at once!

That guy in the bar underestimated the situation .....

I didnt.

Seriously, we do need to franchise some of the work we do as a club, purely to appeal to people outside of the Port Talbot boundary.

Having been to Lords and experienced the JO food!good but extortionate I understand your posting. Surely the way to go is to promote local businesses within and around the ground and concourse.
The Liberty was built by the people of West Glam FOR the people of West Glam. Promote ourselves and encourage a warm welcome but we never ever forget who we are and what we stand/stood for

Yes I should say in defence of man city, the food was generally of a decent quality, but spectacularly forgot the target audience - people don't want to spend a fiver on a hotdog when they've already spent £50++ to be there.

The tricky thing then is the local business collaboration, with which I agree in principle, but cannot at the moment think of any local businesses of a size to cope with the contract on their own... unless of course we do the Swans thing and think outside of the box! How do you think, for example, an arrangement between Swansea market and the swans would go down... or rossi's?

It was never owned by the fans. It was always 20% owned by the fans. This is the distortion of reality that I have alluded to. When did the facts blur into the unreality?

In time it could be owned by the fans. If the trust implements a policy that all dividends will be used to buy up shares, slowly but surely the club will be owned by the fans.

When the bad times return, will it take a bunch of fans to harp on for years before someone listens ?

Truth is, if swansea fans listened back in 1998 when silver shield were running the show, and took positive action we wouldn't have nearly gone down the pan. And wouldn't have had all this pain.

Swansea thicko's too busy listening to steve hamer and the various bribes instead of listening to the real fans, like phil sumbler et al, no better than Cardiff back then.

Jack daniels etc ....

Did you sing JOHN HOLLINS BARMY ARMY ?
If the answer is yes, your the reason we nearly died.

As we sell out EVERY home League game the Clun could easily put the prices upto £45 ans see how many they sell. I think £35 for most games is a bargin.

In view of the numerous comments in this thread in respect of "club/Trust" issues I sincerely hope that the nest Trust AGM will be a sell out,I have only missed one AGM in recent times and the usual attendance from fans (ex board) is max half a dozen at best.

Good point that, and have to hold my hand up that my attendance record at such things is pretty bad. It's something I plan to rectify and hope that others who have an interest will do so. A strong Trust is absolutely critical to, and is the best vehicle in ensuring our interests are looked after.

This is a key point for me. There seems to be a prevailing view at the club that prices should be set in order to generate the maximum possible revenue. I'd argue there needs to be more thought given to ensuring tickets are affordable and that more focus is given to ensuring full houses at all games, in particular the cup games where we'll be lucky to get 10,000 given the current approach.

Fair play, there's some really good points made by a lot of posters and a good, thought provoking OP
I think what people have to decide is, are we customers of the club or fans. The answer to this determines how you think.
The number of times I've heard or seen the term "PL on the pitch, conference off it" seems to point towards us becoming customers.
Customer service by the club shop, ticket office and other club/ STADCO employed staff is sadly lacking. This is something that can be improved quickly and easily, at very little cost. Replying to Emails / phone enquiries quickly, efficiently and effectively costs nothing.
As one poster stated, when the ST renewals were brought forward by some months, is when I really got the hump. I always renewed the STs in April/ May as a part of birthday presents for June. Impossible to come up with the money in December- February (made it in March, thankfully.)
Club showed it didn't give a sh1te for the fans who had had ST's for many years, couldn't care if those fans got to watch their club at the top table or not as it knew it could easily sell the ST to someone else (supply and demand), so no-one at the club can now complain, if they are berated for being unprofessional in their service levels.
Personally, I agree with anyone who says the service levels are absolutely dire and if I had any choice, i.e. if he club was any other type of business I wouldn't deal with them at all.

If you wake up breathing, thats a good start to your day and you'll make many thousands of people envious.

It's been said before, but I have no problem with current ticket prices whilst we're facing the level of capital expenditure that we are (expansion, training centre). Better
to charge more in the short term than borrow.

Once they're all paid for however the board have to think long and hard about what kind of club we want to be. Personally I can't see any reason why match and season ticket prices can't come down by a significant percentage, even with the concession schemes that to his credit Huw Jenkins seems to want to implement.

Agree strongly with both points here.

Happy to pay now whislt we are still expanding.

But (and this is where I would seriously have a problem with the club),if we get to a position where all the main facilities (training and ground expansion) are delivered and paid for, and we have smanaged to get to a long term stabilised position in the Prem (I know I know every season staying up will be our target...), then I would be very disappointed if the board didn't look to cut ticket prices and make us the sort of club that I beleive we all want to be and the type of club I believe many others see us as being ie. a proper community based club, albeit at a higher level than we ever thought we could be at. But a community based club at heart none the less.

I want us to keep our 'specialness' and not become just another sell out Redbirds or Chelski type club. If we did, we'd lose something important to me, wouldn't make me walk away (which is what the club knows really), but it would certainly take the edge off.

Anyway, that's years away in fairness, but I doubt I'll change my mind even then.

Oh,..Dave, what's occuring?
