And I assumed he lived in Swansea ,happy to stay with his family, for his whole career
They are all mercenaries
All of them

The sooner fans realise that the better.
There are some who have that loyalty but pretty few and far between these days money talks.

But then look back to the days of locals like Cliff Jones,Terry Medwin,Ivor they all left for the money and you couldn't blame them.
The problem is this kissing of the badge thing which evolved has brainwashed some fans....

Undoubtedly, and so he should. And as Swans fans we should say thank you and good luck. I'm not sure in his reasons for moving? Money? Direction of the Club? Coaching? Fans frustrated with him and not feeling appreciated? Maybe all of the above.

He's decided it's time to say goodbye, I wish him well. I've never doubted his heart has been in the right place and he's been a model professional both as player and captain, but we need a different (better) player with a different tempo and can be a match winner. Grimes, and the role he played was a waste of a position (and significant wage).

I would imagine he will, he's been a good servant here and nobody can doubt his consistency

Best of luck after Saturday Matt

The official announcement is slow coming from either team is this because the paperwork is going sideways backwards sideways?

Or because they want it to go through after the cut off for Saturday's game.

Coventry thinks they are signing Iniestia by reading that.

Are they in for a shock.

A reliable sauce is telling me that Covenry are giving us £4 million for Grimes, then they are going to loan him back to us until the end of the season.

Won't the Swans stall this deal until after the deadline to stop him playing against us on Saturday?

Tell your Heinz insider we'll drop the price to 3.5mill if they take him immediately.

All jokes aside... 4m is about right I think. Could have played hardball for 5-6m if we were desperate to keep him but it's time for the club to move on so it's a win-win.

I would not be surprised if we have a "promotion bonus" for him. If Coventry go up we get an add-on. So we may want him to play in a bizarre way / make some money....?

He'll be busy packing boxes!

OK. Here's my theory based on what we know so far, what has happened in the past and what we know about the personalities involved. Possibly cobblers, maybe a hint of truth.

The players aren't happy with Wiliams. That much seems certain. So Grimes, in his capacity as "Captain", and as we know he has done before, has gone to Coleman to whinge about it.

Coleman, undoubtedly suffering from his own buyers remorse over Williams, facing the headache of finding a replacement during a transfer window and well aware that Grimes' griping was one of the reasons why we found ourselves in the position of needing to appoint him in the first place, has lost his temper and basically told Statty to shut up and play, to do what we're handsomely paying him to do.

Grimes has gone to the rest of the squad for support and found out that he is perhaps not as universally popular as he might have thought. Lots of them are new, many may be harbouring their own doubts as to whether a style of play that seems to have been custom designed to suit one man may not be ideal to make the best out of their own talents.

MG's agent suddenly finds himself with extra work to do.

Clearly Grimes knew what was on offer from Coventry before he put in the apparently verbal transfer request. So was he tapped up, if so why has it not been mentioned.

Could be some truth in that. I’ve had the feeling he thought himself on another level to the rest, in part down to idiot fans proclaiming him to be the new Messi . Other midfielders at the club must harbour some ill feeling toward him for getting picked every game as captain and failing to live up to his responsibilities. I’m over the moon he’s going and will open my bottle of bubbly tonight !

I don't think Coventry have approached him out of the blue. I think the interest has been sought out by MG's agent as a result of the above.

As for him knowing what's on offer, that's pretty standard these days. Nobody pays anything but lip service to the tapping up rules. Everything is done through agents so the players can honestly say they've had no contact with the buying club.
