Why do commentators have to say his whole name? KIeffer Moore instead of just Moore? Also he seems a bit of a tit....just a observation.

Is it to avoid confusion with Dennis Moore? ('Soon every lupin in the land will be in his mighty hand')

It's the same with Solly March at Brighton - commentators always seem to use his full name and never just say March.

Same goes for Barry Bannan and Sammy Szmodic.

They do the same for many a player, but I've no idea how they make the decision.

I've often wondered what the forename is for the double barrelled Harry-Kane.

Equally, there's a trend (pundits more than commentators) of referring to some players by their first name - especially 'Trent', like they're all best mates with him.

Yet a player like Olamide Oluwatimilehin Babatunde Oluwaka Shodipo never got to hear his full name in a commentary. They’re operating a two-tier system.

Petr Cech. Never heard anything but both forename and surname.

Change of subject but I'm watching the full 90 mins of the Sheffield game and they just brought on the honey monster to play centre half , good grief what a weird looking player!!!

The first name, last name things is irritating. It started with Roberto Carlos...never ever called just Carlos and is now ubiquitos with the players they have a love in with.

Slightly off topic but I can’t stand it when pundits say ‘your Rooneys, your Ronaldos, your Agueros’

Such a weird turn of phrase

Again, slightly off topic but in our BBC match report from the weekend apparently we’re next playing Wayne Rooney’s Plymouth rather than just Plymouth ( or Plymouth Argyle).

I shouldn’t be surprised but FFS…….

Brazilian names are a slightly different case though as Roberto Carlos are his first two names much like the 1970 captain Carlos Alberto.

Actually the WR prefix now formally denotes the new lower quality of whatever team it's tagged to.
