Pubs We Have Lost 15:19 - Oct 11 with 2675 views | colinallcars | How about an international break chat on sadly missed pubs ? Some that've closed in West London were right dead-and-alive holes although there will be people that miss them. I used to like the Clarence on the Bush roundabout ( known as the Magic Roundabout by cabbies ). They had a swing guitar player a couple of nights a week and a West Indian steel band Sunday lunch. Charrington IPA and sometimes Bass on handpump and decent malt whisky. Sadly now some sort of hostel/hotel.
Pubs We Have Lost on 16:23 - Oct 11 with 2577 views | robith | My late father would say "They should rename it the McDonalds roundabout!!!!!" every time we drive past the Target roundabout (living in Hillingdon that happened a fair amount). Used to drive me up the wall. Now I do it to my wife every time we drive to see mum. Drives her insane

I once, in my naivety asked a cabby why they call it the Magic Roundabout. “ Cos it's f****** magic if you get rahnd it mate “ He replied with a wink.

Pubs We Have Lost on 17:12 - Oct 11 with 2471 views | QPRSteve | The Duke of Clarence was my first ever local. Got ruined when the appointed a New Zealand guy as manager who rubbed all the locals up the wrong way. I also miss the Greyhound on Fulham Palace Road. Had some great times in there. I even spent a few months as the DJ for the lunchtime strippers when I was out of work. That was an experience and a half! The Mail Coach by the tube stations another. I'm sure it could have stayed open for a few more years. Is thn Mall Tavern still going in Notting Hill? It was a great pub but it got converted into a gastro pub and the seating area for food took up most of the room and the beer prices rocketed,

I still miss the Mailcoach, even preferred it to the Bush Ranger, lovely pint of Bass (is that still sold, even?).

Not to forget The Star and quite a few others in Notting Dale, Saw Richard Branson a few times in The Duke of Clarence, think it was his local before he bought the Princess Victoria in the early / mid 80's and tried to change it from a QPR Pub to a Soho-House type media hostelry - did'nt end well that one.

I went past The Mall Tavern on the bus to The Churchill the other day Steve. Still open but wether it’s a gastro or a pub I couldn’t tell. Lost pubs of The Bush? The Mail Coach (sob, where we first met Steve!) The Duke of Edinburgh (bit of a shitpit even for me) The Wellington (mad landlord) The Bush (pretty good before it was tarted up and killed) The Bushranger (ditto) The Railway Arms (gone before I started pubbing it) The British Prince (decent but a bit moody. Had a spot of bother in there once) The Goldhawk (how did I forget this ( thanks Lblock). Great pub, first one I got drunk in. Ended up crawling around the pool table barking like a dog!) The Brackenbury (meh) The Sun Inn ( loved it, great jukebox) The Travellers Rest (good for being unemployed, loads of pooltables) The Greyhound (never went in as often as I should, liked it) Flanagans (short lived but much missed) Smuts (never liked it) Think that’s it ? I need a drink. [Post edited 11 Oct 2023 19:31]

The Wellington on the Bush Green used to have professional wrestling. There was a small pub across the green behind the shops - the Duke of Edinburgh that no one ever mentions. Went in once, not much of a pub.

Now a Nando’s isn’t it? We used to use the original one that Martin opened in West Ealing years before the Bush version. IIRC he sponsored our Sunday football team (a team which, at the peak of their powers, I’d actually back to get a result against the current slop wearing hoops…..myself as Manager of course) I think most Bush pubs covered but I do really miss The Goldhawk for sentimental reasons allied to a few specific Saturday nights in there post QPR The Ealing pubs gone and sadly missed:- The Feathers / The Town House — now a Metro bank; brilliant gaff for a while The Coach & Horses - still a bar but a monstrous thing, no character at all The New Anchor - next door to the above and was another our team frequented (The Coach & Horses, Anchor and Flannagans were often known as The Beermuda Triangle) The Bell in Ealing Broadway had its moments especially that forecourt in the second most with a short stagger over to Le DoDo (The Don’tDon’t) or later The Priory I really miss Bar SalSoul aka The Sausage Bar Then the place of legend…..still there but called The Red Rooms…. Club Azur — what a place. It was everything you wanted and more. Absolutely tragic the shrinkage of the hubs of socialising in London. What a shite place we are creating for future generations who, I know, do things differently to the teenage me but for the worse from what I can see

Pubs We Have Lost on 22:03 - Oct 11 with 2056 views | johann28 | One of my favourite real-ale pubs in town was The Bree Louise in Cobourg Street, just a few yards from Euston Station. The amazing selection drew a large, diverse crowd of drinkers, both locals and commuters. Anyway, it was knocked down in 2018 as part of the redevelopment of the area to make room for HS2 - and now that we learn that Euston will almost certainly not be the terminus for the new line an added irony is that it seems that the Bree, along with shops, houses and some fine Georgian buildings, were needlessly razed to the ground. The pub was run for 15 years by Craig and Karen Douglas and such was their devotion to cask beer that they won a vast array of awards, including North London pub of the year as well as cider pub of the year (it originally called the Jolly Gardeners but Craig and Karen renamed it in memory of their daughter who died just 12 weeks after her birth). Their policy was to offer an amazing range of cask beers, typically around 20 on handpumps and straight from casks stillaged behind the bar. Craig was a passionate supporter of small independent breweries and you would find the likes of Sambrooks, Redemption, Windsor & Eton and many more on offer. He said he wouldn’t give house room to the likes of DoomBar and as he was a former professional rugby player with Harlequins it was best not to argue with him - not that there were any grounds to disagree, especially as you could usually find a cask mild on tap. When the pub closed Craig and Karen lost not only their livelihood but the flat that served as their home - they were promised compensation but a) they didn't get a penny for two years and b) it ended up being nowhere near enough to start afresh somewhere else. No matter: the people in charge of HS2 pocket their salaries. No doubt a revamped Euston will house another giant BrewDog bar or whatever but a genuine community local has been lost. Makes me weep.

I love a pub with a big selection of Real Ale. There's a pub in Twickenham Green called the Sussex Arms. It was an Ind Coope pub with no cask beer. Some guys took it over with the promise of a large range. I went in on opening day to see a resplendant bar with 18 ales on handpump. “What can I get you ?” Said the barkeep. “A glass of beer please” Said I.

Bree Louise was an absolutely stonking pub. So much of London's social ecosyetem has been eroded by developers' desire for just one more steel and glass culture grave serving Pravha
