Rangers and politics 16:48 - Jun 11 with 7302 viewsMoonshineSteve

Mate of mine is doing his masters on politics among football fans in different countries. He asked me if there had ever been any political activity at Loftus Road. I couldn't think of anything significant.

Anyone recall anything?

I am still Steve but no longer in Dagenham.

It’s a bad mix that, QPR and politics

But lines are very blurred these days - is it political action or community action for these things that can make you very proud of the club:-

1. Grenfell - Queens Park Rangers must surely be the most high profile organisation to have throw their weight behind helping etc

2. Kiyan Prince Foundation - knife crime is endemic and a huge problem with a litany of failed political policies. What Mark Prince and the club have done and continue to do in this respect and campaign is superb

Any other clear political jousting and I’m out these days as all politics are rotten and bollox

Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

Sort of related but I've just finished Alan Johnson's excellent 'This boy' a great read if you are from W10.
His first game I think was to see Rangers new signing Brian Bedford.

We have seen plenty of it.

Conservative set ups, even when playing at home.

Laboured performances, especially against the likes of Peterborough.

Left wing fanatics. Thomas, Sinton, Sinclair.

Right wing fanatics. Impey, Ainsworth, Adomah.

Centarists. Francis, Currie, Wilkins

The support for Grenfell could be considered political?

"Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the Earth all one's lifetime." LOL, and a g(G)reen, but sadly, no Whigs, well, not yet.

We live in hope!

"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."

Most supporters go to a match to escape politics and the real world for a while. It's the people that run the game interceding with it all when most supporters just don't want or need it.
