Should the worst happen and the Russians invade, I suspect that many rich Russians in the UK will be part of the proposed sanctions, could this affect our foes down the road?

What would happen if Ukraine just surrendered?. How would it effect Ukraine and the EU? Are the west worried that Russia won't stop just at Ukraine?. It would save a few lives wouldn't it?. What an utter mess this planet is atm.

I must admit that although I greatly admire the resistance being put up by the Ukrainian people, seeing the news from the Black Sea port of Mariupol today, which is now surrounded and being relentlessly bombed and shelled, makes you wonder if there is any point in continuing the resistance any longer when there is zero chance of anyone coming to their aid.

"What would happen if Ukraine just surrendered?"
That question makes QPR playing with 4 or 5 at the back seem quite easy!

I don't think that is the best mentality if your country gets invaded. You wouldn't fight for the UK?

Churchill:
We shall go on to the end. We shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be. We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender.
No-one was coming to Britain's aid then. Same choice for the Ukrainians, really.

I wouldn't fight for any country. No chance. War is just poor people from one bit of land fighting against other poor people (whom they have never met and don't actually have anything against) from another bit of land, solely to preserve the power, control and wealth of the rich/elites. You are not 'fighting for your country', you are fighting for the rich/elites. I'd give it a miss.

I don't know how many, but it was thousands, of Americans sent guns and ammo to Britain when war broke out. Some even had their names and addresses engraved on the firearm so they could be returned once the recipient was done with it.

All fair points, my post last night was written in the midst of witnessing yet more distressing and sad news coming out of Ukraine, I gotta admit I don't deal with It too well but that's just me. For the life of me I cant grasp the fact that two neighbouring Countries have got themselves into this situation in the Year 2022, seeing scenes of kids being seperated from their parents seeing the death toll rising the destruction the refugee situation. I've worked with Russians before retiring and like you, or me they were all decent hard working blokes, you are correct it isn't the fault of the Russian people.
From the very late 80s into the early 90's the 'cold war' started to come to an end which at the time was a huge relief, something like 40 Years later on and look what's happening now.
It's always-always the innocent people who suffer, I'm tired, tired of It.
Complacency Ted, though not your fault. You, your fellow citizens, me and the rest of the west have been lulled into a state of unreality by many of the political class, our corporate masters and crucially by the conniving sycophants of the Fourth Estate.

"For the life of me I cant grasp the fact that two neighbouring Countries have got themselves into this situation in the Year 2022". IMO they haven't got themselves into this. It is all being orchestrated from above. It's Phase 2 of the Great Reset and managing the collapse the world economy (the response to Covid being Phase 1. It's no coincidence that what was allegedly the greatest threat to mankind in modern history is no longer a threat at all and seems to have disappeared completely.....Phase 2 now well underway unfortunately. They are evil in the extreme.). I expect Phase 3 to be alleged Russian cyber attacks taking out the internet, banks and bank records.
Paranoid? Maybe, but that's how I see it having done extensive reading in this area. Whichever it is, it's absolutely terrible for the innocent people involved who are just trying to get on with their lives as best they can

The consensus amongst analysts seems to be that Putin is looking to split Ukraine in two, stopping at the Dnieper River - the terms of peace for Ukraine would mean ceding the east to Russia while the west giving written assurances (basically USA's promise) that it would remain neutral:
But then a lot of these experts predicted he wouldn't invade in the first place...

If this was all genuine and wasn't all being staged, agreeing to precisely what you have set out in your post would be the most sensible thing to do to bring the suffering of ordinary people to an end. But it is being staged and it isn't for the benefit of ordinary people, so that won't be agreed and the conflict will continue
Having said that, wouldn't it be fantastic if I was just paranoid and the diplomats did agree this (which is what they should SURELY be agreeing if they genuinely wished for all this destruction of people's lives to stop?)

You wouldn't be able to "give it a miss". If you were a man living in Ukraine or Russia at the moment.
Not having a go by the way. That's my understanding of this war. People living there didn't expect it to go this far.
Is Zelensky an elite? I don't know much about him. All I know is that he won his election "by a landslide" as an anti-corruption campaigner. At least that's what I read somewhere. Also he used to be a comedian and an actor.

Masha Scream of Arkona put out a very heartfelt post in English as people were telling her to speak out.
'8 days ago I logged out of all social networks because my soul was destroyed. 8 days ago my life was divided into "before" and "after". I have now been informed that the "world" community is expecting me to make a public statement about what is happening. I have always tried to stay away from this kind of "written outbursts", especially political ones, because I believed that true words should be spoken while looking into a person's eyes and the true personal opinion of everyone should be far from other people's eyes or ears; it should be open to close people ONLY! Yet you have forced me to write these worthless letters; well, so be it. In response to that, I now want to ask EVERYONE to give me a public opinion on how you would react to the fact that your family is being destroyed?! How even dare you demand from me or from other people or bands, who are exclusively CREATIVE (!!!) units, consisting of the same living people like me, who are shocked by this horror of what is happening at the moment, how can you keep demanding such statements without any remorse? Each of us has blood relatives who are experiencing this hellish apocalypse that is going on around us!! These are our families!!! How dare you ask us such questions now?!! When my relatives and people close to me are staying in basements; and you are sitting on warm sofas and clogging the Internet with your demands??? How can I feel about the fact that the city of my ancestors is now half in ruins, my brother can be killed defending his land, and any moment a bomb can fall on my nephew's head?! How do you all think I can relate to this??? How can I relate to the fact that at the moment the whole world is a few steps away from the global destruction! How can I feel about the fact that our current regular conversations with my children are about how to hide from a nuclear bomb?! Now sit down and think. I curse everyone who started this horror on earth.'

Covid hasn't "seems to have disappeared completely." - colleagues at work have it or have just come out of it. It's still very much prevalent (45,000 new cases yesterday in the UK) and it's still being reported in the news but just because it's no longer headline, for blindingly obvious reasons, doesn't mean it's just disappeared.
