Deadline day thread 16:25 - Jan 25 with 80571 views | Northernr | May as well try and keep all this together for the next week. Demebele withdrawn from Peterborough squad ahead of possible Bournemouth move. V good against us. Further reduces the possibility of them pulling their fingers out and relegating bloody Reading.

Deadline day thread on 14:11 - Jan 31 by Sharpy36 | Just thumbed through the u23`s thread and putting aside the arguments of player development etc, i read on there too our u18`s sit rock bottom of there league as they have done for the previous two years. So those u18`s who were getting beaten on a regular basis have now moved up to u23`s and kept that trend running. It`s clear that somethings not right within the structure. Maybe the new training ground might change that, who knows. |
I would struggle to find the source now but a while back there was an interview and among the topics discussed was the policy of not worrying about results but to get the players used to the intensity and cut & thrust of competitive football. Coupled with that was the comment that the potential prospects from the individual age groups were pushed into the age group ahead so they were being pushed. At games recently we have seen U23's Murphy Mahoney warming up with the GK's pre match with Walsh & Murray. Almost half of the U23's are eligible to play in the U18's and similarly a lot of the U18's are eligible to play for the U16's and so on. It's been a while since we saw a U23's side with Dieng, Manning, Smyth, BOS, Chair, Eze, Tilt, Gubbins, Kendall et al turning out and destroying the opposition. TL/DR Young players are being hot housed irrespective of results.

All the U23/U18/U16 etc are being coached the same way - ball from the back usually in the same formation as the senior team. That way they're being brought through to do things the way the first team operate. Having that consistency is essential to make it easier for the younger players to step up when opportunities become available.

Same ones reporting what a tragedy it is that Derby find themselves in the state they are today. Not a hint of irony and two years into a pandemic.

Deadline day thread on 02:00 - Feb 1 by superhoopdownunder | The good news is we have kept our squad together and even strengthened it through Jeff Hendrick and Dion Sanderson I am sure we made offers we could afford for Tom Lawrence and Jamie Paterson which were not accepted so walked away. We have a very busy run of fixtures after the Peterborough cup game. 10 games in 39 days. We need a strong squad to get through these games and get results. Our squad now looks like this Goalkeepers Dieng Marshall Walsh Archer (injured) Barner (not sure if he is still here?) Wing Backs Albert Wallace Moses Kakay McCallum (on loan from Norwich) Niko (not sure if he is still here?) Central Defenders Barbet Dickie Dunne Sanderson (on loan from Wolves) Midfield Amos Johansen Field Hendrick (on loan fron Newcastle) Ball Dozzell Bettache Owens Attacking midfielders Willock Chair Thomas Goalscorers Austin Dykes Gray (on loan from Watford) We've loaned out the following players Bonne (to Ipswich) de Wijs (to Fortuna Düsseldorf) Masterson (to Gillingham) Shodipo (to Sheff Wednesday) Kelman (to Gillingham) I've not included fringe players like Sinclair Armstrong Stephen Duke McKenna (now out on loan) Let's hope we can keep the momentum going. I have noticed Murphy Mahoney (U23's GK) warming up with Murray & Walsh in the pre match drills before games. He looks a little beefier than Walsh and it is difficult to tell how good he is from being the coconut on the shy for striker practice but he made a few good saves. Tangentially, the best of the strikers (goals scored) was George Thomas and they were mainly well positioned efforts into the corners.

They used to rave about how great our window was when we were signing Samba, Jenas etc and then laughing at us within a few weeks when it went wrong. They raved about Everton 2 years ago as well which all went tits up. Sky Sports News has become a parody of itself now

He’s a RB. Tete is injured/injury-prone, Odoi has gone to Club Brugge, and Sessignon has gone to Argyle on loan, so that left us with no RB. We did need to plug that gap.

“Almost half the u23s are eligible to play for the u18s” Only 5 players moved up from u18 to u23 last year (in the summer) because they are third year scholars - as is standard practice across all clubs. They are; 1. Mason McLean 2. Alex Aoraha 3. Arkell Jude-Boyd 4. Sinclair Armstrong 5. Deon Woodman As a third year scholar, all are either aged 19, or will be during the course of this season. Alfie Lloyd is also classified as a third year scholar but signed a pro contract. He’s in the same age group. Everyone else in the 25 man u23 squad are older age groups. Either they are coming up for their 20th birthday, their 21st birthday or their 22nd birthday - most in the squad are the latter two. There’s also a couple are coming up 23. The idea that the u23 squad is particularly young is not true [Post edited 1 Feb 2022 13:23]

As someone commented on Twitter last night, you could really tell who had been a QPR supporter for years and who was more recent. Not knocking new fans - we sure need them. But a serious lack of understanding from some that the adrenaline fix of transfer deadline and the pathetic "we've spent more than you" attitude can come at catastrophic cost. Fans just blithely wanting the owners to shell out a few million here and a few million there (once salaries are factored in) are often, I find, the last folk to put their own hand in their pocket and buy so much as a round of drinks or pay for a club stream. But they call the owners tight! Amazing really when you think what the shareholders have sunk into it. These fans always call it an "investment" rather than what it actually is: unearned spending with no guarantee of a return. [Post edited 1 Feb 2022 17:25]

I saw somebody slagging Amit because of how much he'd spent on his fcking wedding. I think a lot of them are just naive kids, so there's an excuse there. But I saw genuine accounts, QPR fans, been around a long time, talking about "making a statement" and "showing ambition" and all of that guff. Mind blowing. It never ceases to amaze me how quick somebody like Jamie Paterson goes from somebody nobody has ever heard of, to the absolute key to our promotion challenge. At times this week that transition has taken about 20 minutes - Josh Maja.

Two directors and a major sponsor have also resigned over it. Moral and ethical considerations aside, it’s a senseless signing.

Yeah I saw that, just so dumb. For a start it was almost certainly Mittel who paid for it for his daughter. Mittel is clearly not massively into QPR, however much some fans have dreamed of him doing an Abramovich. It should be pretty obvs by now that is never going to happen. I'm not a great fan of big, ostentatious displays of wealth but how much the Mittels spend on a wedding isn't QPR's business - and the most likely consequence of personal attacks is that he turns round and says "this is meant to be fun for me, but if all I get is grief I might as well go off and do something else instead." People write stuff on Twitter they would never say to someone's face. Strange mentality.

Deadline day thread on 19:26 - Feb 1 with 1560 views | Lanhoop | The transfer deadline, window, speculation all seems to me to be generated out of the easy ways to generate attention, clicks, follows, stories. You need next to no knowledge of the game to start writing stuff, broadcasting stuff or tweeting stuff about players and transfer fees and being in or out of favour. Newspapers, websites, Sky ficking Sports News, Skybet, transfers and rumours are just an easy way to fill media space and get advert views. No intelligent writing needed. Nearly every paper is now putting out stories on who is moving in the summer. It's cheap and nasty. Oh and the Amit weeding guy was in Ghana. I mean, finger on the pulse of W12 or what?
