Summer Transfer Rumours 11:30 - May 13 with 5338 viewsBringBackTheRedRoom

https://www.blackpoolgazette.co.uk/sport/football/blackpool-fc/league-one-and-tw

Here's the latest news and transfer rumours in League One and League Two on Monday, May 13, 2019.

Sunderland are one of several League One clubs with an interest in AFC Wimbledon defender Deji Oshilaja, according to reports.

HITC Sport claim that Jack Ross is keen on a move for the 25-year-old, who is set to become a free agent this summer.

It is believed claims the Black Cats, Barnsley and Fleetwood Town are all lining-up a move for Oshilaja once his contract expires.

Oshilaja made 32 appearances for the Dons last season, and has also spent time on loan at Sheffield Wednesday and Gillingham.

Bristol City are preparing a £2million swoop for Barnsley top goalscorer Kieffer Moore, The Sun understands.

Lee Johnson's side were linked with the striker in January after Moore appeared to be in red hot form before he was ruled out for the rest of the season in February.

The 26-year-old is poised to return ahead of next season's Championship campaign, though the Robins are said to have set their sights on making another move.

Moore could follow star defender Liam Lindsay out the exit door this summer as Leeds United owner Massimo Cellino reportedly wants to bring him to Brescia this summer.

Portsmouth and Blackpool are the latest clubs to be linked with Plymouth Argyle defender Ryan Edwards.

The 25-year-old confirmed he will leave Home Park this summer, prompting interest from a number of League One teams.

Last week saw Doncaster, Fleetwood, Peterborough, Bristol Rovers and Bradford City credited with interest but The Sun believes Blackpool are also keen while Pompey are "a maybe".

The Pilgrims are on the hunt for a new manager and are understood to have held talks with Bury boss Ryan Lowe, reports on the South Coast say.

Bradford City manager Gary Bowyer has revealed he is keeping tabs on free agent Mark Cullen.

The striker was released from Blackpool last week after five years at Bloomfield Road and worked with Bowyer between 2016-2018.

Bowyer told the Telegraph and Argus: “He’s somebody I know and scored the winner for us at Wembley to clinch promotion.

“Cully is always going to have a special place in my heart because of what he did that season and that particular day.

“The poor lad has had a terrible time with injuries but that’s one that we’d certainly monitor.”

Peterborough United are plotting a move for Bolton Wanderers free agent Mark Beevers, as per The Sun.

Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony said last week the club were on the brink of signing a Championship defender who has won promotion from League One.

Beevers fits that blueprint having did it with Sheffield Wednesday and Bolton as well as holding further third-tier experience with Millwall.

MacAnthony, however, did rule out a reunion with Paul Coutts and George Boyd following their release from Sheffield United and Wednesday, respectively.

In League Two, MK Dons are keen on NAC Breda left-back Greg Leigh, The Sun understands.

Leigh, a former youth product of Manchester City, moved the Netherlands' top-flight on a three-year-deal last summer.

However, following Breda's relegation countered by MK's promotion, Leigh has been touted with a return to England.

The 24-year-old has already had spells at Crewe Alexandra, Bradford City and Bury.

Port Vale starlet Luke Daley is set to complete a move to Huddersfield after knocking back offers form Liverpool and Southampton.

Vale will be entitled to a compensation fee after Daley, 16, was on the club's books for eight years.

Vale's academy manager Sevvy Aslam told StokeOnTrentLive: "We had interest from Huddersfield and while that was going on, we had interest from Southampton and Liverpool.

"He has decided to stick with Huddersfield. He is a lovely lad and we are sad to see him go."

Plymouth Argyle set for defeat in race to sign midfielder Jamie Devitt

The out-of-contract Carlisle United player is being tipped for a move into League One

Blackpool are being tipped to beat Plymouth Argyle in the battle to sign attack-minded midfielder Jamie Devitt.

The 28-year-old has turned down a new contract to stay at Carlisle United and can leave as a free agent.

New Argyle manager Ryan Lowe is thought to be interested in bringing Devitt to Home Park as one of his first signings.

However, League One club Blackpool are 'still believed to be the likeliest destination' for Devitt, according to Jon Colman, the Carlisle reporter for the News and Star.

Blackpool signed out-of-contract Argyle defender Ryan Edwards on a two-year contract last week.

Devitt made 130 appearances for Carlisle over three seasons and was their second top scorer in League Two last term with 11 goals.

Lowe was asked about the Devitt speculation at his introductory Press conference as Argyle manager on June 11.

He said: “I know where that might have come from. I bumped into him in the Trafford Centre (in Manchester) on Sunday.

“I was just chatting away with him, so someone might have taken a picture of it and whatever else.

“We were asking about each other and his missus is pregnant.

“Is there rumours in it? Possibly, yes. Is he a good player? An unbelievably good player.

“Would I like to have him at Home Park? Yes I would.”

Seasiders Complete Devitt Signing

Attacking Midfielder Becomes Third New Arrival

Blackpool can confirm the signing of Jamie Devitt on a two-year deal, plus 12-month option.

The attacking midfielder, 28, joins the club as a free agent from Carlisle United, where he hit 22 goals in 130 games for the Cumbrians.

Named Carlisle’s Players’ Player of the Year for the past two seasons, Devitt arrives at Bloomfield Road following his best campaign to date, having scored 12 and assisted a further seven goals in 2018/19.

Born in Dublin, Devitt started his career with Hull City and progressed through the club’s youth system, winning the Youth Team Player of the Year accolade in 2007/08. He went on to make 19 first-team appearances for the Tigers, while also gaining further experience out on loan.

No stranger to the Lancashire area, he also spent two years with Morecambe between 2014 and 2016 and won another Players’ Player of the Year award during his time at the Globe Arena.

By signing for Blackpool, he becomes the third new player to arrive at the club this summer.

Jamie Devitt said:

“I can’t wait to get started. Looking around and with the buzz that is back and everything, I’m really looking forward to getting going.”

Manager Terry McPhillips added:

“Jamie is a good player with a good record of scoring and creating goals. We’re getting him at a time when he’s playing his best football and I think he’ll be a great fit for us.”

Dewitt finally confirmed.

I've only seen him on a few YouTube videos but one thing I liked about him was the passion he showed.

Identity of Blackpool’s next signing hinted at

Blackpool will be hoping that the 2019/20 season provides a new chapter in their history on the pitch after several changes off of it.

2018/19 proved a landmark year for the Tangerines.

A long-awaited change at the very top of the club was initiated — and finalised earlier this summer — whilst fans began to flock back to Bloomfield Road to see their club play.

On the pitch, there were hopes for a play-off challenge right to the final weeks of the campaign, which was impressive in itself, and so for this coming season there is rightly optimism around the seaside town.

It looks as though they’re not finished in the transfer market yet, either, with Pool apparently identifying Ben Tollitt — formerly of Tranmere — as their next arrival.

This update came, eventually, from Alan Nixon on Twitter:

After a brief spellcheck error on Twitter, Nixon confirmed that it is indeed Tollitt who appears to be on the way to the Tangerines.

The Verdict

There appears to be a new dawn at Blackpool at the moment and that is being reflected by some of the signings they are making.

They’ve made some impressive deals work for them already this summer and it looks as though they are not stopping yet.

At 24-years-old, Tollitt is ready to enter his prime years and impressed on loan at Wrexham last season, scoring a handful of goals in his appearances in the National League.

He’s got experience of playing for a Football League club — albeit briefly — with Portsmouth, and will want to show he’s ready to take on League One with the north-west side.

What Can Former Tranmere Rovers Man, Ben Tollitt Bring To Blackpool?

There are rumours today that Blackpool could be looking at Tranmere’s former striker, Ben Tollitt.

It’s looking like it just whispers at the moment although it has excited a few Blackpool fans. The 24-year-old spent his youth with Everton and in 2013 he signed for Widnes where he managed 18 goals in 39 appearances for the club. This was quite a strong start to his career which interested Skelmersdale United who signed him in 2015. In a year at the club, he grabbed one goal in 13 appearances. The striker then moved on to Portsmouth and had a similar form in 12 games and 1 goal again.

However, his career took a different turn when he went on loan to Tranmere, made 10 appearances and got 4 goals. They decided to take him on permanently and since signing in 2016 he’s played 23 games for the club and contributed 4 goals. Tollitt was loaned to Wrexham in 2019 and managed 4 goals for them too until his contract ended and he was released from Tranmere.

What could he bring to Blackpool if he does sign?

Pace

A lot of Blackpool fans are commenting about how they think their team could do with players that have the pace. Every time a new signing or interest in a player comes in, I’m seeing a lot of fans, especially on Twitter, asking for younger, fresher legs that can bring a bit of excitement to the team and the 24-year-old could do that.

Goals?

His track record of goals hasn’t been consistent so to speak, but when you look at his appearance ratio to goals and loan spells, he could benefit from going to a club that needs him where he can play more often. The more regular he plays, the more comfortable he will set in and hopefully he could be Blackpool’s answer to finding the back of the net.
