Another Siggy Update on 18:02 - Jul 29 by Swansea93 | It was decided between me and the club, and him also, that it was the best decision for everybody involved that he wouldn't take part in games at this point," said Clement. "As I said recently, we want a resolution to this situation soon. It's not something we want and we will not be allowing to drag on right until the deadline. This is something we are going to get sorted as soon as possible. "I have no doubt that he'll be ready for us if necessary because I've seen him working hard day in day out. He'll be back training with the first team on Monday when we re-join. "For me the deadline, I want it to be imminently." "I know that Gylfi is a player of Swansea. He has three years left on his contract. He's a very good player and we rate him very highly. We want him to stay. But at the same time, if another club wants him they have to play what the club feels is the right valuation for the player. "I've really enjoyed working with him and I think, either situation, assuming it's done in the right way at the right time, it's going to be a win win for us as a club. "We're either going to get the valuation we want which will enable us to reinvest and improve in the team or he stays and we manage to keep a very good player." |
Reassured by Clements words there. I think we'll have three new players in place by next weekend, and Siggy an Everton player.

Another Siggy Update on 16:26 - Jul 29 by jack247 | This set piece merchant reputation doesn't do him justice. He isn't very quick and he can't beat a man, but that aside he is a very good midfielder. I'm not sure he is a £50m midfielder by any stretch, but I'm not sure he always gets the credit he deserves. |
Absolute bollocks He gets far more credit than he should and simply because your typical Match of the Day pundit doesn't have the time or perhaps ability to analyse us as a team properly. He's facking bang average as Everton are about to find out.

Wouldn't expect anything else really. Do you really think Everton haven't done their homework, or that they are going to blast the best part of £50m for his free kicks?

Sooner the better, let's face it even at 45 million it's daylight robbery for Sigurdsson! All the negativity this fiasco has heaped on the squad in general can't go on any longer!

i am sick of it as well and want it to end. unfortunately this what Siggy, his agent and Everton want us to think so they can get the cheapest deal possible.

You don't half talk bollox. Gylfi is a proven scorer in the pl, along with impressive assist stats. You pay for what you get. Many teams who try and stay up, fail to do so because they do not have players with the x factor, players who can change a game with a goal, a pass etc. Plenty will have players who will compete, play a fairly tight game, but not have the ability Gylfi has I.e. to change a game. He partly saved us season before last and had a huge part in saving us last season, then tw ats like you talk this shift. We will find it very difficult to replace him. Plenty of players out there whom we can throw money at but few with his track record.

I guess that incoherent babbling is intended to be an insult, right? Too bad, because I've actually shown a little respect for your point of view towards Sigurdsson and Llorente, even though I ultimately disagree with it as much as practically everyone else does. After your recent opinion that Siggy AND Llorente will go for "£45m at most," you might want to be careful about calling anyone else naive. [Post edited 29 Jul 2017 21:42]

That's just plain old English, Squire, sorry if it's not up to scratch. And when I posted that the only actual bid we'd received was £32M We'll see what we get. The more the better. And I'm going to apologise to you as I think you're a decent bloke, although I do feel you have been a tad naive around this whole saga. Cheers...

Yes, I think they've done their homework - the same as the other 70 to 80 teams in Europe's Elite leagues have. 99% of those elite teams homework's say - steer clear - ordinary midfielder with no pace 1% say - set piece king, we can do something with him in narrow, slow formations. Koeman, who will live to regret this, mark my words, is in the 1%. The other is a rookie coach at Leicester primed for the first casualty of the EPL sack race. How many more times, like?? ;-) [Post edited 29 Jul 2017 22:57]

Scott Sinclair? Funny question. But anyway, I thought he was ideal for us at the time and more than did a job. He, along with notable others, made our transition from Championship club to EPL seamless and comfortable. I'm glad he's enjoying his football again and think in the right environment he could succeed in the EPL again.

You are a funny guy , my friend. You don't rate GS, yet seem concerned that the Everton manager, may regret signing him. You should be thankful that someone is prepared to pay a huge amount of money, to the club you support, for someone you don't rate.

Why thank you, But concerned? Oh no, couldn't be further from the truth. If Koeman is daft enough to chuck us around £40m let's mug him off til the cows come home. Seriously though. The whole football world knows Siggy is itching for a move and has been since January, and look who's bothered to come in for him....?? Think about it............. That speaks VOLUMES!!!!!!

GS is a very good player, not good enough for a top 4 club though. Been excellent for the Swans. And any Swans player, would be itching to leave for an extra £60 k a week on top of their wages.

Depends which way you look at it. Maybe average for a club like Everton. Probably, Chelsea would regard him as below the required standards. But for Swansea, he's been great. £50 million and no doubt I'd sell him. Would also like it to be sorted sooner rather than later, and get a quality replacement in asap.

Fair enough, and cheers youself, Res. I respect your passion in, and your conviction to, your feelings and opinions about what you want this club's identity to be again (free flowing football); even though I think you hopelessly sell Sigurdsson short as a by-product of that desire. But what am I naive about? What I think WILL happen? If it's that, then I'm not sure what you're presuming, because I haven't the foggiest idea what will happen the rest of this window. And neither does anyone else, including likely the top decision makers in this club. So I'm just keeping my expectations wide open. Yes, Sigurdsson is probably gone, and Llorente possibly headed out the door too. But if I've learned anything from the past, it's that any transfer - and particularly one this dramatic and complex - isn't a sure thing until the player is photographed holding up his new shirt. Things can always fall apart, even at the last minute, for a myriad of reasons. This is why supporters are always nervous as hell until they see that target player holding up their shirt; it was even that way for presumed slam dunks like Mesa and Abraham. Now, if I'm naive about what SHOULD happen: I don't claim to have the answers there, either. IF we complete the Siggy sale for £45-50 million, we won't know if this was a good move for the club until we see what they do with the money before the end of August, simple as that. But, I do feel comfortable in saying, unequivocally, that if this club HAD accepted £28.8 million for Gylfi (£32m less Spurs' cut), we'd be in some deep crap right now.

So, that two clubs have each bid at least £40 million for him isn't the way to judge him as an asset; rather the fact those two clubs are merely Everton and Leicester makes him an average player? Sorry, but that's an opinion, not a fact. The only factual part of the statement is the £40 million. And if we are to follow your logic, would it really make him a better player in your eyes if Chelsea and Man U were each bidding £20-25 million, as opposed to Everton/Leicester bidding £40-45 million?

Incorrect. The other 70-80 teams have looked at him and thought - he isn't worth £50m - which is what the majority on here seem to be saying. I wouldn't think many are looking at him and thinking - bang average midfielder- only you think that. Perhaps you really do understand football better than Ronald Keenan, I highly bloody doubt it though. This isn't American football, teams don't sign players just to take set pieces. You should add a bit of balance to your posts. Everyone knows he isn't Neymar, he isn't average either. Edit - Ronald Koeman [Post edited 30 Jul 2017 8:27]
