Can't blame him, why sign now when he can weigh up his options in the summer, does he really want to play the extra games in the chumpionship next year!

I think he's spot on and honourable.

He could just take double the money and still go if we go down. But he wants to keep us up on his current wage packet and see if that works.

If not, why shouldn't he stay with Prem club?

It won't be Charlie's fault if we go down. Without him we would all but be relegated already.

Never knowingly right.

I wouldn't take that article as gospel. Surely the Scouse Pirlo ain't on 90k a week!!

18 months left to run.

He's not standing off because of anything to do with the money, just his career path. He'll bang in the goals until the end of the season and if we stay up I think he will stay, if not he will seek to move on to the Prem again and we'll get a lot of money for him.

Never knowingly right.

No great story.

Same reason why Danny Ings won't sign a new contract with Burnley.

Funny how there are no "Danny Ings in contract stand off" headlines/stories?!

If I was him I'd sign the contract, double your money for a few months and if relegated we'll sell him anyway, win win for him

I bet we will only negotiate with a clause that says "minimum release fee"....why would he want this when he can get more from a lower transfer into his back pocket?

Not doing anything wrong IMO by the way.

That means we can demand more money for him though and potentially shoe away potential suitors.

He unsurprisingly wants the transfer fee to be a slow as possible to ensure plenty of buyers. Doesn't want to risk ending up at someone like Hull.

Ings is actually out of contract in the summer. so Burnley have a decision to cash in and go down or keep him and hope to stay up and then he goes for free in the summer.

but unlike us they will do it in a calm and orderly fashion without turning into a media fukkfest.

There has been plenty in the news about Ings's contract being up in the summer but it just isn't as newsworthy. Hardly our fault if the journos pick the easy target is it?

Also as he's under 23 he couldn't actually go for free I don't think. Would be a tribunal.

This is story is almost certainly a mix of guesswork, agents' rubbish and fantasy. Barton is on nothing like £90,000 a week. The papers have been relatively consistent insisting he's on £65,000-£70,000 a week, regardless of whether that's true or not. It's like the Cesar thing — they couldn't help themselves but claim he was on between £80,000-£100,000 when the truth was nothing like that.

Didn't Barton Balls boast to one Karl Henry years back at Wolves that he was on £80k per week?

And I'm pretty sure Cesar's package was leaked (can't remember how/why) and he was on £80k basic plus significant bonuses.... I can't remember how I know this, and I'm not one to make up this ITK sh*t, but I'm sure I did know this.

Anyway, basic salary isn't the real story, it's the ave. weekly take home that matters, and the bonuses they're on are significant! Not that many will be picking up too many bonuses at present.

Cesar was stated at €70k basic in GdS when he first joined us.

Think Barton's on bonuses for hitting the 1st man at corners and passing to the opposition

The only answer we've ever had on wages was when Fernandes said he'd never paid a player more than £65,000 a week and that was with Samba in the squad. The rest is speculation.

Not sure how the club is to blame for the media writing this story.

Charlie, like Ings, wants the best deal for him and family.

Wouldn't matter if we gave him a 10 year £100K a week contract tomorrow, he isn't staying if we go down.

For all that Burnley have become a great club on here and Sean Dych the new messiah, Ings will be off like a shot if THEY go down and/or a big club come in for him.

Not sure why some of you are so shocked by this after all these years, players are NOT fans and will always, always follow the money - any club, any chairman, any manager - makes no difference, these two will not be playing Championship football next season.

They only get "compensation" based on time he has been "developed" by the club - it has nothing to do with his commercial/market worth - so yes they/him DO still have decision to make.

We wouldn't though, if we go down he'll leave probably to a mid table side like a Newcastle or Stoke
