Besic fallen through on 07:53 - Jul 10 by magicdaps10 | I think its paramount that if we have a number of new faces that we start the season with as many players in the starting 11 who were with us last year. We cant go chucking 5 or more players in together and expect them to click, they have to be eased in during the season. Pending on who is rumoured on leaving, we still look to have a solid enough first 11 who know the Swansea way FABIANSKI RANGEL-AMAT-WILLIAMS-TAYLOR BRITTON SHELVEY-KI DYER-BONY-ROUTLEDGE |
I would argue that part of the problem last year was that we didn't sign players who were sufficiently different from what we already had. Canas and Poz were poorer versions of Leon and Pablo. Imo, the signings who integrated with the squad the best were Bony & Shelvey, two players who were both initially singled out by many on here — myself included when it came to Shelvey — for not playing to 'The Swansea Way". To be a 'bigger club' we also need to stop concentrating on the first 11. Styles must evolve or they stagnate; just look at the Spain squad for the world cup. One of the most positive things I saw from Monk's time in charge was that in the away games he was happy for the home team to have more of the ball and hit them on the counter. And to do that with greater effects, we need a bigger range of players.

Besic fallen through on 05:31 - Jul 10 by AnotherJohn | Indeed it is looking like more than four new faces may be running out when we start our campaign, and that makes me nervous. It is true, as an earlier poster said, that we could still put out eleven from last year's squad, but I don't think that particular eleven would keep us up. |
Well before last season we signed 5 new faces who were part of the first team squad (Amat, Pozuelo, Canas, Shelvey, Bony) and stayed up comfortably. If you don't think we can put out a side at the moment that can keep us up, then I'd respectfully disagree. Leaving Michu, Canas and Pozuelo out, but including the other players still here, we can still play Fabianski/Vorm Rangel/Tiendalli Taylor/Davies/Kingsley Williams/Amat Chico/Bartley Britton/Ki Shelvey/Fulton Hernandez Dyer Routledge/Emnes Bony/Gomis Of those, Davies and Pablo may well be leaving, but we will then sign replacements. We also need more depth in midfield and out wide, but it's obvious we're still looking to sign players. That team, with a few additions, will have absolutely no problem staying in this league in my opinion.

I traced the Twitter rumour to the originator and couldn't see anything to suggest he was a credible source.

I really hope that twitter rumour is sh*te......from what I've seen of Besic, he looks like the type of player that would suit us.

I agree with magicdaps. And we can easily bring in 7/8 players. As long as they are introduced gradually and not all at once. Fact is, if all the expected departures happen, we will need at least 3 more players in and possibly as many as 5. Added to those already signed and I'd expect some on here to over react.

'Running out' means starting not merely being part of the first team squad - so my central point was that I'd be anxious if we didn't start with a core of established players and feed the newcomers in gradually. Your list includes some of the very players whose likely departure is worrying me - especially Bony, Pablo, Ben and Chico. If we fielded a similar eleven to the one that finished the season before last (let's call them the old guard) then I do indeed have doubts that we would stay above the relegation zone. But the forum is about opinions - time will tell.

Your right about opinions, but why is yours always so negative I have no doubt by the time the season starts we will have a stronger squad that finished last season. Oh and I think apart from the top six, it could be the weakest league in a long time. My opinion

Did you miss your vocation as a policeman? Why the relentless criticism of fellow posters? It wouldn't be so bad if you sometimes had something new to say, but it is almost all reactive - talk about meta-babble. All I am saying is that I thought we had a reasonable squad already that needed fine-tuning rather than dismantling with wholesale replacements - that is hardly extreme negativity.

'Dour' I can live with. I will accept that I am naturally pessimistic, and realise only too well that staying in the toughest league in the world can't be taken for granted.

In what world are 'negative' and 'electrocution' two sides of the same coin (so to speak)
