Now Frank De Boer Is The Favourite ! Although A New Name Emerges ! Thursday, 23rd Jun 2016 16:56 The leadership board of the bookies odds on the next Saints manager seems to be changing hands on the hour every hour as yet another name assumes the mantle of favourite to take over the helm at St Mary's The week started with Manuel Pellegrini then switched to Jurgen Klinsmann, but his odds have taken a trademark dive and now its Frank De Boer in the pole position. De Boer's odds have shortened to as low as 6/4 although if you are quick you might get 5/1, Manuel Pellegrini is in second place, Claude Puel in third with Klinsmann now down to fourth after a rash of betting on him yesterday. Apart from that the rest of the pack is virtually unchanged, although for some reason Francis Benali has shortened to 25/1, the same odds at Rudi Garcia and lower than Eddie Howe and Walter Zenga. But coming into the running with odds as low as 10/1 is Marco Silva, who you may ask ? Silva has resigned this very day from being manager of Greek club Olympiacos, he did so after only one season in charge for personal reasons, but it was a great season for the Athens club who ironically play in red & white stripes which saw them equal the European record of consecutive domestic wins in the 21st century (17) and win the Greek title at a canter with six games remaining. At 38 Silva is a little young and inexperienced given that after 3 years managing Estoril in his native Portugal he moved to Sporting Lisbon winning the Portugese cup, the clubs first trophy in 7 years. Bizarrely he was sacked days later with what was described by Sporting as "Just Cause" that being not wearing the club's official suit in a cup game. Why he has suddenly jumped into the rankings is unclear with the only real reason perhaps being his sudden resignation making the bookies jumpy. NB. Whilst typing this story DE Boer was leapfrogged by Claude Puel, Silva's odds have also dropped, which just goes to show the crazy situation at the moment.
