Good Old Arsenal Friday, 29th May 2015 09:33 "We're proud to say that name, whilst we sing this song we'll win the game" ! That was the Gunners song for the FA Cup Final in 1971, now 44 years later Saints fans will be singing it as they become Gooners for a day. Ironically the song "Good Old Arsenal" was written by TV pundit Jimmy Hill and it became synonymous with their double winning year of 1970/71, it was the first ever single to be released by a side in an FA Cup Final and reached number 16 in the charts, some feat back in those days. Now Saints fans will be hopefully singing it on Saturday as they will Arsenal to beat Aston Villa and in doing so put Saints into the Europa league. The phrase "Gooner For A Day" is doing the rounds and whilst i don't expect too many Saints fans to go out and spend £50 on an Arsenal shirt to watch the match, I think most will be roaring a few words of encouragement at the TV screen. Nothing against Aston Villa, indeed if we had won at Man City and were now in 6th place and already in Europe then we would have been urging them on to take the Europa League spot themselves and leave Liverpool floundering. So come on Arsenal, I cant remember uttering that phrase much in my football supporting lifetime, but I will shout it out tomorrow in front of the telly and hopefully by around 7.30pm on Saturday evening the travel brochures will be out.
