Clyne In England Squad Thursday, 2nd Oct 2014 13:26 Nathaniel Clyne has been selected for the England squad with ex Saint Luke Shaw relegated to the U21 side. Nathaniel Clyne has won his first call up for his country joining fellow Saint Fraser Forsterin Roy Hodgson's squad for next weeks Euro 2016 Qualifiers against San Marino & Estonia. His inclusion comes at the same time as Luke Shaw is dropped down to the U21 squad after a slow start to his Manchester United career that has seen him play only once in the United first team all season. Hodgson's squad is top heavy with midfielders meaning that at the back he has opted for only six defenders, two of those Kieran Gibbs and Leighton Baines are left backs whilst Gary Cahill, Phil Jagielka and John Stones are primarily central defenders, although Stones was played at left back in the last International. So the path is clearly open for Clyne to in his first cap for his country and with his great attacking form for Saints, in a game like San Marino surely Hodgson will opt for attacking prowess rather than the defensive option Stones would offer. Joining Shaw in the U21 squad is Calum Chambers with Hodgson showing that moving to a big club does not neccessarily man your chances of playing for England are improved. Good luck to Nathaniel Clyne, hopefully his head will not be turned by some of the Bill Big Boots he will meet in the squad who will be keen to show him their wage packets.
