Viva Beeston-Vegas! Monday, 7th May 2012 20:27 Leeds up the ante in Casino bid! Just days after revealing Elland Road wad one of four biddrs for the site of a lucrative casino to be built in Leeds, CEO Shaun Harvey has been talking up what a successful bud may mean for Leeds United. His comments in full and an impressive projection of what the West (John Charles) stand may look likes available on LUFC.com. Harvey claimed the revenue streams from such a venture would ge a massive shot in the arm for Leeds United's prospects of returning to the Premier League. It is hard not to be cynical and very unfashionable to agree with anything Harvey says, however I think it would be a good thing particularly as funding would come from private investors, unlike the East Stand redevelopment which appears to have hindered team redevelopment. The west side of the stadium is the oldest part of the ground and needs a major facelift. We have to move with the times and it is a fact of life we can't rely on 23 matches per season to generate enough revenue to fun a successful side! Cynics will argue that ER, despite us loving it to bits, is hardly in a prime location. The ground is surrounded by modest semis/ town houses and low squat industrial units. Granted, the city centre has undergone a massive transformation these past two decades beyond recognition to what it was like when I, a relative latecomer first started coming in 1989- however the regeneration still has some way to go before Holbeck and Beeston becomes a playground for the rich and famous! But why not dream of better days for the area? I suppose the only downside would be that Safs takeaway on Top Moor Side would probably put the prices up of their £1.99 10" pizzas!
