Suddenly a gap opens up for Saints, can they push through it ?

Peterborough's defeat at MK Dons has meant that if Saints can win at the Valley for the first time in over 33 years they could go top albeit only for a few days till the weekend when we have no fixture.

Historically all points towards a 0-0 or 1-1 draw, but if only one point is gained then that will be a big opportunity missed, it might be second only for a few days but its a big pycological blow to both Huddersfield and Peterborough who suddenly see themselves drop behind Saints having played more games.

We have to now be focused, the big plus point of Saturday's win over Sheff Weds was the composure of the sidde, OK it took a lot of time to get going, but they played with a confidence lacking in recent months and a resolution lacking for a long while.

But it was the absence of errors that was the most pleasing aspect, yes we had only conceded three goals in the last seven games, but every one of them was an error of some sort and for a side that seems to build slowly during a game and scores its goals in the second haly thats a fatal flaw, but it wasnt there against Wednesday and if it stays out of our game for the rest of the season we can start to recapture that flowing form of the New year period and drub someone as we did Oldham.

Charlton wont be easy though, an appalling run has seen the drop right out of the promotion battle, when back in January they looked our main contenders for second spot, now a good team doesnt become a bad team overnight so at some stage this poor form has to end, our job is to make sure that it extends another game at least.

We should now be buoyant and certainly some players looked a lot beter on Saturday than they have done in previous weeks and our playing with confidence again, with our firepower we should fear no one, our problem has been that too often we have had to pay catch up due to defensive errors.

Saints wont be able to complain about the support with around 2,500 set to make the trip, probably around a fifth of the total attendance.

A win tonight will drive a big nail into the promotion hopes of our rivals, lets do it !
