My post didnt mention the ogdens. They are obviously successful people who invest in community initiatives but maybe they think they dont need to hear the voice of minority shareholders. I think they are bright enough to know holding the AGM when they did would limit the participation of shareholders who invested in the club long before they did. Hopefully they will learn from their mistakes and make sure future AGMs are timed to maximise the participation of shareholders. |

Which was the purpose of the timing of the meeting no doubt. Shareholders voting powers watered down and now their voice has been as well. Another sad day in the 100 plus years of what once was our club but now is theirs. |

Appears that Jimmy Thompson, 89, and Peter Whyke, 85, are the two remaining players from those two legs of the League Cup Final. |

Thanks for posting the link, but I dont see how it prevents the club being sold to unscroupolous owners. It seems to relate to preventing owners doing unscroupolous things (selling ground, moving leagues, changing name, colours etc). But it doesnt seem to have anything to say about change of ownership. Also it doesnt prevent what one were scrupolous owners becoming unscrupolous. I am not against the notion of the golden share, on the contrary its a good thing. But I dont see it restricting who the club can be sold to, beyond exiting provisions of directos tests etc and we know they are pretty useless. |

Isnt the golden share something to do with preventing the ground being sold for non football purposes or does it extend beyond that? If its limited to the ground then it wouldnt stop current owners selling the club to whoever they chose would it? Until the golden share actually happens I suppose we dont know the answer. Devil in the details. |

Hate to correct you but I think you will have seen 5 relegations...late fifties, walter joyce master piece, Colemanballs, the smiling irishman and the loss of our football league status. Would have been more if we hadnt been protected by the closed shop on league status for the period until 1990s |

Problem is the fans andfa-shareholders haveb been stripped of their power to do anything. Iif ogdens decided to sell to a shyster their is nothing we could do about it. That was the price paid for the Ogdens coming on board and the pilot saving face. |

To be fair our slip down the table is partly due to games having been called off leaving us with games in hand. Thats isnt meant to distract from poor performances. and of course points still have to be picked up from those games in hand, but or current position is not entirely due to recent results. |

Agree on much of that. Even if Crawley were to have a decent summer his record overseas is much inferior to at home. Id also be wary of taking Woakes….great bowler on home soil but his record in Australia is poor. Australian conditions dont suit his bowling. Aussies just had a big win over India to tie up that series. But then Aussie bowlers always seem to be lethal after dark in Adelaide. |

And at the other end of the scale….crawley falls to henry for the fourth time in four innings….I think thats makes him Henrys bunny. |

yes, but that isnt much of a standard to be judged by. Fine innings regardless. |

Certainly has the world at his feet but that was one sloppy way to get out. Bad decision to go for the run, bad decision not to try and recover and bad timing in the last over before the break. |

As I said in a recent post as a shareholder for over 50 years I have never felt as detached from the club as I do now. This could not happen without the acceptance of the Ogdens even if its being driven by SG. Not even an attempt to explain why this change has been made. It really is their club now…the rest of us, including the trust, are just customers. |

The total options claptrap is mind numbing. The manager needs to establish some track record before aiming to leave his mark as a tactical guru. I havent felt as disengaged as a shareholder in all my 50 years of shareholding. The value (and I dont mean monetary) of being a shareholder was watered down more than southern beer in order to effect the ownership change in a way that saved face for the current co chair and the rest of the former board. We needed a clean break from the previous regieme and I hope that the current arrangements are temporary and just a short step from installing a board free of past influence. Lets get some folks who know football on the board to help the ogdens run a steady ship with promise of growth both on and off the field. |
| Forum Reply | What’s our worst squad ever? at 17:17 17 Nov 2024
Not only statistically...a non league squad playing in the third tier. A youth team coach trying to compete with youth team players and some old vets. Painful to watch, cruel to the kids playingOnly one survived...Alan Taylor....though he already had some non league first team experience at Morecambe. 76-77 was a very close second...and Dalians comments on Phil Ashworth are too kind...he was far worse than that. The difference between the two teams was that in 76-7 you occasionally felt you were in the game. 73-4 we were beaten before we left the changing room. Of course I dont go back as far as 1931-32. That must have been out of its depths by a long way too |
