I’m the same. I did join in yesterday, but only at the end and it was very much directed at Luke Williams. I’ll always get behind the players during the game, but I don’t think they’d take the booing to heart. They’ve effectively done the same thing by dropping the effort since he lost the dressing room |

Ok in the first half. The effort was there even if the quality wasn’t and they didn’t seem to know what their roles were individually and collectively. The crowd got behind the team. Coventry fans were up for it and that roused us a bit. The first, but particularly the second goal killed the atmosphere dead. We all knew it was over by half time. The East was half empty by the end. There were fairly loud boos from those still there. Williams went straight down the tunnel. |

If you play 5 at the back, the fullbacks are the wingers. They attack and defend, meaning you can play 3 in midfield and either two up front, or a Cullen type drifting between the midfield and the striker. Yesterday was just nonsense. Attacking full backs and wingers, which meant we had two in the middle and Cullen caught between helping the midfield or getting between the wingers. We somehow managed to outnumber ourselves everywhere apart from on the flanks where the fullbacks and wingers didn’t link up to any real effect. I’m not surprised the players were confused, it was confusing to watch! |

Absolutely. They were trying to get a head start on their markers because they knew they had no support if they did get put through. Coventry compressed the playing space and we resorted to those ineffective long balls. Even when they were onside, they were up against defenders better in the air and had no one to lay off to when they did win it. We were just giving them the ball. Atrocious tactics. |

Yeah, I’d agree. They are good enough to scrape enough points to stay up. It’s still one of the weakest squads in the league though and I’d guess we have the worst striking options as well as no natural number ten. Grimes isn’t irreplaceable, but he’s a massive loss until we do actually replace him. No one seemed to know what they were doing yesterday |

Vipotnik is rarely a viable option for me. He played half an hour and touched the ball maybe 5 times? I agree though, the formation he went with made no sense and I can’t see he was expecting anything other than what happened. Ginelly had a run out at Cardiff but it’s all gone quiet since |

I thought that too. They are desperate to survive and if they have identified him as the type of player they need, he’s quite effective. Play him in a midfield two like we did yesterday and he’ll be a waste of money |

Coleman could be very busy tomorrow Fulton out and two midfielders in? |
| Forum Reply | Swansea City v Coventry City : Match day thread at 08:58 2 Feb 2025
Yes exactly. Adding Christie to the back line and playing with two wingers meant we were caught in a no man’s land between being outnumbered in the middle or Cullen dropping back and having no one in between Bianchini and Ronald. Lampard won’t have an easier game all season. |

And Cullen was dropping back into midfield, Fulton and Franco were outnumbered in there, which resulted in us booting balls up to our widemen, who were isolated and easily dealt with. Agree on his interest. I said it would be hard to adapt the way we played within a week, but it looked like he didn’t even try to. |

He’s given up. He knows the team aren’t playing for him and is either going to have a sacking or very likely a relegation on his resume. His post match interviews come across like he’s trying to goad Coleman into it. |

Both areas of the pitch are massive problems, but I’d agree, after this weeks events, midfield is the bigger issue now. Let’s not ignore having one of the weakest strike forces in the division though. |

I was more than happy with him when we were mid table. The squad is nowhere near mid table quality and he had them punching above their weight. It was fairly obvious when the performance levels dropped and the things he was already not doing well got magnified. |

The point with the possession is a high percentage isn’t necessarily good or bad. People are obsessed with it. It’s how effectively you use it. Up until this shocking run, we’d roughly been having as many shots as our opponents. That’s dropped significantly and was even worse yesterday. We were playing aimless long balls to Bianchini and Ronald while they were isolated out wide. We aren’t going to score playing like that whether we have 10% or 90% possession. |

On the Allardyce and Warnock point, there were so many basic tactical errors today. They’ve been there all season, but they stand out more when we’re lumping balls to Bianchini and Ronald in the channels and not creating anything. Ball watching/two players going to the same man and leaving another free Laying the ball off then not running into space Players pressing on their own. It’s very easy to pass around if you don’t have a teammate closing down their options. I probably overlooked stuff like this when we were winning as much as we were losing, but it’s painfully obvious now. Why doesn’t he do anything about it? It’s the first thing one of those survival specialist managers would sort out. |

Last paragraph is bang on. It’s fairly obvious Williams has lost control and given up. I’m not sure though, that this group of players is good enough even with a new manager. Coleman has to sort one, preferably both of those issues out in the next few days or we’re staring down the barrel. |

Getting rid of Grimes is fine, but we have to replace him with a footballing midfielder or find a new way of playing. We had 11 touches in their box because we couldn’t pass our way from defence to midfield and resorted to the long balls some people have been craving. I may be wrong, but it looked like Coventry had more of the ball than us in the first half. Once it went 2-0, they just kept us at arms length, which was fairly easy for them. I certainly agree the squad is weaker. Let’s see what Coleman can do by Monday Edit - it was very much a Grimes thing. Doesn’t mean it will be long term. I said before the game I didn’t think Williams would have enough time to find a new way of playing by today and he had no plan B. That was abysmal though. I read ‘eleven strangers’ on here earlier and that was an apt description. [Post edited 1 Feb 19:28]
