My old man met my mum in The Electric Cinema in portobello road in 1938. I used to go there in the 1960’s when it was called “the bug hole “ with my nan.
I used to go to the odeon Westbourne Grove for Saturday Minors late 1960’s. I went there in the late 1970’s to watch Kung Fu movies late at night.
The Coronet Notting Hill Gate showed more arty movies in the 1980’s ( Woody Allen type )
Remembering an actual film …. There was a cinema in the “new” Shepherd’s Bush shopping precinct, and my sister took me to see Oliver in 1968 |

Swallows and Amazons . I tried to read it to my then , seven year old daughter. We called it “ the book that never ends “ unless you understood nautical terms, it was tedious and bamboozling . |

I want to comment once more on how interesting and nuanced the political discussion has been on this thread. As someone cleverer than me said , “opinions are like &r$e holes, we’ve all got one “
I have seen no cancel culture here, and as a supporter of free speech, I applaud that. I voted for the Workers Party.
Personally, a Parliament with, George Galloway, Andrew Bridgen, Nigel Farage and Jeremy Corbyn in , would be a very interesting parliament indeed.
PS, is it worth having a HOW YOU ACTUALLY VOTED POLL , on here ?

I think that there is only one real miracle, and that is that we are here, we’re born. Think of the odds of your grandparents meeting ? Times that by the odds of your parents meeting ? Times that by your sperm getting into your mothers egg first ? ( I understand that if a different sperm had made it first , then you wouldn’t be you ? )
So the odds of all that happening runs into the billions. I contend that this is our one life and we should live it as best we can , without hurting or harming anyone or anything else.
I understand that atoms and molecules exist forever, just changing their structural compositions.
So the biological/ chemical parts of us are sort of recycled, but without consciousness.
I find the Greek Philosopher Epicurus enlightening in this regard. |

Me and my daughter went last season. The Cricketers pub close by was a mixed pub. The burger place across the road made the best burger I’ve ever tasted. Be warned though, they take their time making them, and you can’t bring them into the ground.
Had to eat in record time to get in for the start of the game.
