Contributing to the Ogdens matchday wine bill probably. It's a great question though, what does he contribute and what does Gauge contribute? He doesn't contribute in regards to expertise when it comes to business acumen and has no more knowledge when it comes to football than the average man on the terrace. If you had just purchased a football club you would seek out those who know the club, the ones who have been in the Boardroom and have local contacts. The Ogdens need to engage with Chris Dunphy and spend a couple of hours in his company, the best Chairman we've ever had. Jamie Sarsfield was ostracised from the club by the current board after helping to save the club, he's another dyed in the wool, straight talking guy who is missed. Get people like those involved with the Club again and season tickets would fly off the shelf, individuals who the fans can relate too and have a beer with. It's a fan club this, no room for people on the Boardroom who think they are doing you a favour by even speaking to you. The Ogdens and Jamie Willoughby need to start listening to their customers, the fans and take notice of what they are saying. Take Chris Dunphy out for dinner, it will be the best couple of hundred quid the Ogdens could spend. [Post edited 21 Feb 17:01]

We did pass it around OK between both penalty boxes but i don't recall us creating one real chance throughout the game. I dont recall their keeper having to really extend himself. Keith Hill used to describe it as like watching a soft porn film..plenty of promise but nothing happening in the box. [Post edited 20 Feb 11:34]

Yes, should definitely have had six points. I thought we played well at Southend but never looked like scoring tonight. |

There were no chances to tuck away, we created nothing and over the ninety minutes we didn't invade the penalty area enough. It was another toothless display and Halifax were there for the taking. We need a new manager i think. |

Well summed up. Progress in the day to day running of the club is probably just as important as our final league position also. Unless the whole structure of the club is firing on all cylinders, or at least moving in the right direction, then everything else falls down. The changes in the leadership structure has been badly needed for a long time, so that gives us hope. [Post edited 19 Feb 9:46]

The importance of winning games seems as though it's secondary to the performance and the process when you listen to McNulty. I think thats the difference between us and most of the teams above us and it's reflected in the league table. They all seem to find that bit extra and win the games that they're expected to win in general. More fire in their belly's, more desire to fight, more ruthlessness from the dugout. We beat Halifax at home, in all honesty they ran rings around us that night, we need to be up for the fight from the first whistle tonight because Halifax will realise the significance of tonight's result and won't be taking a backward step. We're due a monumental cock up in defence while trying to play out, inviting pressure, hopefully McNulty will take into account the state of the pitch when he conducts his team talk and we don't see any of that tonight. It's about which team wants it the most tonight. [Post edited 19 Feb 8:35]

Good post, attitudes at the club do have to change. Gauge should no longer be involved in the day to day running of the club or the decision making. The Ogdens have people in salaried positions to run the club now so it's the likes of Andy Duff who is responsible for overseeing these sort of things. I dont think Cameron Ogden would be very impressed if Simon Gauge was interfering with those that have been specifically tasked to do their job. Individuals with far more experience than Gauge will ever have and if they have any backbone they will remind him of that should he try to interfere and report it back to Cameron Ogden. Employment tribunals and compensation payments have cost the club in the past so let's hope the club is now run in a professional way and there is respect given to all members of staff. The last thing we need is any individuals sticking their beak in when people are trying to do their job [Post edited 17 Feb 9:25]

Speaking of project 5000, in two weeks time we have a absolutely massive home game against Altrincham, beat them and we are one game from Wembley and would be favourites to win the first meaningful trophy in the history of the club. Does McNulty see the significance of the Altrincham game and does he embrace it? Do those in the Boardroom recognise the importance of this game? If you are looking at launching a 5000 project then this is a marketing dream for the club and could kick start a generation of new fans and significantly boost season ticket sales over the season if we can link Wembley tickets with early bird offers on season tickets. I'm not confident anybody at the club has even recognised the significance of what is at stake though, theyve probably not even given it any in depth planning or thought. Mc Nulty will hate the pressure, even if it's the FA Trophy and he'll talk Altrincham up as though they are Real Madrid. If those in the Boardroom have the stomach for it they should be rallying the Town and looking at strengthening the forward line this week. Let's see how it pans out, it's the biggest game of our season but we'll probably wimp out of it like we do in big games. [Post edited 17 Feb 7:34]

I dont think Gauge will leave of his own accord. Mc Nulty will either be sacked or he will wait for a better option to present itself. [Post edited 16 Feb 15:52]

'Roll substitutions on and off' is just another ridiculous excuse. McNulty has the option to roll substitutions on and off also but he didn't do. He has a good squad and decent options on the bench. The league table says we have been superior to Southend all season so his attempt to pull the wool over the fans eyes with his 'football speak' doesn't wash unfortunately. It seems that the opposition manager outsmarted him with his in game substitutions. That's what happened. I watched the game on the telly and we are a reflection of the manager..nice to look at but too soft, lacking fire in our belly and a desire to kill off teams. Mc Nulty is managing us out of the plays offs, he'll have a excuse for it though and cite the three year plan. It's similar to BBM relegating us with a good squad of players, there's no character or steel in the team. [Post edited 16 Feb 7:53]

I would like to think that those selected for a interview will also be savvy enough to interview those doing the interview at the same time. Interviews should never be a one way process. If i'm giving up my own time free of charge to help the Club then it will be me asking plenty of questions and then deciding if the position is right for me, it won't be the other way around i'm afraid. I won't be being interviewed by Gauge and Pockney neither, i value my time. I'm fine with anybody else. [Post edited 15 Feb 12:21]

Yes, I've never viewed him as being responsible for things like sending Ethan Brierley to train with a club that is the subject of a transfer embargo when we desperately needed him on the pitch. Nearly handing the club over to a bunch of wide boys and blaming the fans for scuppering the deal, that was a classic. The sticker on seats fiasco etc. I'd be surprised if that was down to GD. I view him as the quiet man but would imagine he's pretty good at his job. [Post edited 15 Feb 12:08]

I'd be interested also .I'm assuming this is a separate entity to the Supporters Trust and not connected. It will also be interesting to know who will be conducting the interview and selection process. It is a good opportunity for fans to get involved with how the club is being run and a strong CAB is definitely needed because at the moment the fans have no voice or credible representation. GD is a employee rather than a board member, there is a professionalism about him, even though it's a very quiet one. I dont believe he's been responsible for the naive and amateurish decision making over the last few years. Hes not the figurehead of the club neither or a member of the boardroom. I dont see him in the same light as SG and TP. I dont hold him in high regard, I'm hopeful that hes good at his job though. |

No, i haven't forgot any of that. Gauge should have thanked the fans for saving the club again but he didn't, he blamed the fans for interfering instead. He can never admit that he's wrong. He was wrong at the infamous AGM also, a very dark day in the history of our club. I'm not even convinced he would have chosen the Ogden family had the decision been left to him, thats how poor i think his decision making is. I did mention in a previous post about the ridiculous decision making coming out of the club over the last few years and his fellow Directors must also take some of the blame for that.. Hopefully this will stop now, Simon Gauge will fade into the background and we can stop talking about him. Start of a new era now off the pitch hopefully. [Post edited 12 Feb 22:37]

Yes, agree with that. I wouldn't have a problem with Gauge staying in position as long as he wasnt involved in the day to day running of the club (he wont leave of his own accord). The decisions coming out of the club over the last few years have been ridiculous and it can never be forgotten that we lost our 102 year league status on his watch. He was the captain of the ship at the time. We very nearly lost the club also. [Post edited 12 Feb 19:23]

This is the best news we've had since the Ogden takeover. We can't move forward as a club until the day to day running of the club changes. You need quality people in place with experience of working in and around football clubs, it appears as though we now have that. I just hope all three have big enough personalities to stick up for themselves and report any interference back to the Ogdens. The team off the pitch is just as important as on it and anybody at the club who cant grasp the concept of that needs to be exposed. The co-chairman now needs to let the experts in their field get on with their jobs with no interference from him..he should just enjoy matchdays and attend board meetings. Great work by the Ogden family in implementing these changes. I hope Cameron Ogden liases frequently with all three and ensures there is no interference from Simon Gauge, Tony Pockney etc. They've proved they weren't very good at running a football club, thankfully the Ogden family stepped in at the last minute to save it. The club needs big changes and bridges need building. [Post edited 12 Feb 16:43]

We need a big unit up front, somebody who can bully defenders and score a few goals. Kelly hasn't even been featuring on the bench and he's lightweight, we've got too many vertically challenged players as it is. |
 | Forum Reply | Ebbsfleet (H) match thread at 09:27 9 Feb 2025
No, it's not good. A few games ago when we beat Yeovil i thought that was the blueprint for us to really push on, how wrong i was, yet another false dawn. I thought it signalled the end of defenders strolling around with the ball and slowing the game down. It was back with a vengeance this week though in both games and its sad to see a player like Beckwith constantly looking to turn back and play the safe ball. Hes another player alongside Allarakhia who looks like his natural game is being held back with the tactics deployed. It's the same stuff we saw under BBM and it relegated us, dot to dot football. McNultys attempt in his post match interview to bull Ebbsfleet up as worthy opposition was typical also, they are easily the worst team we've played all season. [Post edited 9 Feb 9:31]
