Sources Say Southampton Have Made Decision About Russell Martin
at 15:37:02

Its on record that Rasmus Ankersen derides fans. He probably finds it amusing the situation that Saints are in and that those ungrateful pleb supporters aren't happy about it. Either way, he will still keep his job for repeated failure and receive his fat payments for incompetence, when we are relegated again. Still, we'll have funded the success of Goztepe and Valencianne with our EPL cash and Sports Republic will probably be comfortably in the black when we sell on anything good or with potential in our squad when we go down.

Southampton V Leicester City The Verdict

Agree with the views and sentiments here.
Though I am confused by these mentions of Ugochunkwu being a man we should have brought on. Short memories Saints fans. He was the cause of leaked goals and lacks of concentration up until we had to take him off after his shambles at Bournemouth. I have no idea why him or Cornet would even get another place on the bench, let alone time on the pitch. Other than because we have to due to the terms of their loan deals. We can send them back now as far as I am concerned, which would be an improvement to our squad

Ex Southampton Player To Undergo Heart Surgery
at 13:16:12

Danso, ABK, Josh Mills, Larrios, just to name a few Saints who tragically happened to develop heart defects and whose careers have been ended or seriously restricted. Let alone the raft of other well known players. Including Luton's Lockyer, Man United Lindelof and Eriksen, Brighton's Estupinan and on and on. Coincidentally all around the same time. Something never really seen in football before

Southampton Summer Signings The Initial Verdict
at 13:08:26

Certainly fair assessments. The problem that it raises for me is that some of these signings and the carry over of average players from last year give lie to Lallana's claim that the pathway for youngsters is wide open. It was noticeable that Amo-Ameyaw was missing from the bench against Ipswich. Instead those places were used by Cornet, , Ugochukwu and Aribo, effectively. Seeing as AA was one of the stars from preseason, you would think the coaches would be eager to give AA more opportunities, seeing as Dibling and his fearless play has been such a success. Sadly, we are sacrificing what our home grown players will offer to favour minutes for loanees and journeymen who have not earned their place. Exactly what we got wrong last season. The loanees no doubt have terms in their contracts that they must play a part in our season, be that through minutes on the pitch or appearances. Which works entirely against giving our own youth players time. I know I would rather have seen AA come on over Aribo and Ugochukwu who have not shown they are up to the EPL yet. And then Cornet who has offered little to nothing on the few appearances he has had

Southampton V Manchester United The Verdict
at 12:36:08

In addition to what has already been said, the one thing that was noticeable to me was the way we seem to have lost our ability to press as a team. This used to be one of our great strengths. And I appreciate that the team is still forming. However, we were totally unable to pressure Man Utd when they were on the ball. One of our players might have moved to challenge the player on the ball but this was never coordinated with other players in the area and it was easy for United to pass it around and work our way up field. Generally, it felt like our team was in two minds once we lost the ball - some opting to peg it back to our own half and others looking to take it to the opposition and try to quickly win it back. Unless we quickly get ourselves organised in winning the ball back and how we do that, we are going to be dependent on opposition errors and struggle to control games, whatever the scoreline

Southampton Hold Talks with Goalkeeper
at 14:24:31

What confused me was Martin's statement that we can't sign a new keeper until we get one off of the squad. Seeing as it seems clear to many that McCarthy can not cut it, whatever was the logic in giving him a new contract?
We had a great chance to get his wages off of the books and free up space for that new EPL standard keeper. But instead opted to shoot ourselves in the foot and restrict our options.

A Rough Guide To The Changes At St Mary's Stadium

Digital tickets/Saints App
Crikey, did the club give the Ugly inside money to push this marketing blurb about the App and not criticise the obvious problems? Roll up roll up!
The club pushing fans to use a mobile phone to go to games is a total load of garbage and will cause queues, as it usually has done, with fans fumbling around with their ticket app. And if they have family on it too, passing their phone back at the turnstile for other family members to use it too.
There is no obvious fan benefit. Just more digitisation and club control. And what will you do if your battery dies before the game?
This move will also mean the club having control to restrict who you can lend your tickets to and profit from your ability to give someone else your ticket.
No comment from this site about these obvious failings and the trap of digital tickets?
People don't have to accept this dodgy scam by the club and can demand a physical season ticket. I did for next season and have no interest in supporting this drive to digitise fans. Once digital tickets are in, then if you ever get a bad mark against your name, you won't be able to get rid of it. Heck, once they know who you are, going to the football can be withdrawn as a privilege if you aren't a good obedient little citizen.

Dom Ballard In Demand As He Looks To Bounce Back From Last Season's Injury.
at 16:33:51

I'm gutted that he never got a chance to show what he can do with Saints last season, when we were scratching around for a finisher. He needs game time and I wouldn't trust Selles to boil an egg. If he can't get game time in the Championship, you'd think it would be better for Dom to be fighting for promotion with a better team?

If Alcaraz needs to be at a bigger club, why would he be considering Spurs? I know a bit tongue in cheek, though Its not like they got into the Champions League. So other than a bigger pay packet, he's unlikely to get much more by way of experience, facilities and so on

Would Southampton Fans Welcome Back Adam Lallana To St Mary's
at 18:34:03

"only just 36"-seriously? Lallana couldn't play 90 minutes when he was at his peak. If Mr Nivea wants a cushy number, why doesnt he go and play for Bournemouth? His travel will be really short then.
I was fine with the Walcott signing and he did a job. Lallana is past it and any player that refused to play fur Saints to force through a move to his dream club can get lost. Unless we want to bring someone in to act as a guide to our young players on how to shsft your employer and chase the money, like his mate VVD

Liverpool Fans Blame Southampton Stubbornness As Latest Lavia Bid Rejected

For what it would cost to replace him (a lot more than £10m), I'd rather we had a year of Che ripping it up in the Championship. We don't have many experienced heads, as many have observed, and Che would now be classed as that

Southampton Fans Want To See Youth Given A Chance In The Last Two Games
at 11:11:11

I would suggest that Ruben Selles has in no way demonstrated any competence and that it is no coincidence that our obvious decline under Ralph coincided with Selles elevation by the club to be Ralph's number 2. Who knows for sure. But there is zero evidence that he would ever be a good manager. He has no ideas, no ability to learn from his mistakes and has a terrible read of the game. Any positives anyone can think of?
I think if anyone asked one of the young prospects if they wanted to get a run out in the first team before the end of the season, that they would all fall over themselves for a chance. We saw the energy that Ballard brought to our disastrous game against Grimsby. After which Selles then completely binned him off. I certainly don't think their egos are that fragile that their belief and confidence would be damaged from the experience. They would bring an energy that has often been lacking in our games this season.
And wouldn't it make sense to at least give these lads a bit of experience of what it is like to play against a Premier League side before we drop a division?
Sadly, in response to Nick's question, we know what a dull and unambitious manager Selles is. I suspect we will be likely to have to endure more of the same while the club ensures it meets its loan and contract commitments to give players time on the pitch and Selles repeats the same disastrous substitution jamboree of nearly all his other games.
I can't think what other reason there can be to give so much dross the chance to disappoint over and over again.

Southampton At Newcastle United The Verdict
at 10:13:54

Selles obsessive defend at all costs approach did for us again. Each time we make moves forward and get the upper hand by playing quick attacking football (now Newcastle and Arsenal) the manager repeats the same failed strategy.
Go more defensive, trust players who have repeatedly shown that they don't deliver, screw up our overall team balance by playing people out of position, take off anyone on a yellow card. And why did we take off both Lyanco and Djenepo to leave our right side totally exposed? Any amateur should have learnt from these errors after a few times. Not dogmatic Selles.
Playing Djenepo and KWP on their opposite sides was bizarrely pointless and served to limit our threat/effectiveness also.
Can't wait for the club to act to get the ball rolling for next season and to forget this one.
I wonder if a load of players are only getting played because we have to meet the terms of their contract/loan to get appearances in a single season or face paying a fee

Southampton V Bournemouth The Verdict
at 16:33:20

This is definitely an interesting one, Davidargyll
And one that we will find our for sure soon enough. One man's rubbish is another man's treasure, as they say.
I think our buying strategy has been part to blame but, I would agree with what Nick said. Our team is just a few key players short of being a decent side. Sadly, without those key players, it makes everyone else in the team look bad. And our manager's decisions have made them look really bad.
As we saw last night, when we were trying to attack, the weird tactics of Selles meant that there was no one to pass it to and we kept running into dead ends, so passed it backwards to keep possession. I didn't see a real lack of effort. Just players confused by what they were supposed to be doing or where they should be playing.
As I would understand things, Salisu is already pretty much gone to Newcastle. Thats probably why he is actually "injured". And I am sure there will be no shortage of suitors for Che, sadly.
Will all come out in the wash and in some ways, I hope it is you that is right. Because it will be far easier to get promoted with players like Che, KWP and Salisu in our ranks

Southampton V Bournemouth The Verdict

David, I think you'll be surprised what a queue there will be for our players.
I'd say ABK, JWP, Salisu, KWP, Che, Sulemana, Onuachu, Bazunu, Caleta-Car, Livramento (if fit), Alcaraz, Lavia and Mara will all be gone before next season. Both for reasons of contracts and the fact that they are good players if managed properly.
Add to that the departures of Orsic and maybe Orsic and Stuart Armstrong retiring.
It will be gutting to lose Tella too.
Its the dross on high relatively high wages I am worried we will get stuck with. Still, players like Aribo, Djenepo, Adam Armstrong and Lyanco will probably be able to DAJFU well in the Championship mixed with a load of our youngsters, I hope.
