I thing the best indicator of a player is the number and value of transfer bids for that player by the maybe 100+ clubs in that market. End product wise his numbers were very poor last year and only picked up when Willock returned to the side. I"m hoping recent marked increase in early crossing with his right and left is down to Cifuentes's coaching and finally getting him to realise his potential. |

Yes, first incident was the one I recall and forgot he played on after that and then got injured again following year. |
| Forum Thread | Moment of the Match - Sam Field on 90 Minutes at 13:05 7 Jan 2025
Lots of highlights last night but Sam Field's covering tackle on Chong in the box on the 90th minutes is worth a re-watch, Thought Morgan was MOTM in the 1st Half when we had possession but out of possession the 2nd Half Field was superb and deserving of a joint MOTM, Sees Chong is 1 on 1 with Dunne, knows he's quicker than Dunne, looks around and scans the pitch, sees no-one breaking in his space and opts to sprint across the pitch to cover Dunne and put in a possible goal-saving tackle, Superb awareness, desire & energy, best buy in a very long time. |

Think Jimmy & Luton fans have previous after he was quite badly injured at theirs the other season and they gave him dogs abuse as he was being carried off, Dunne's previously said he has to manage his highs & lows as takes defeats very badly, not a bad trait to have & great to see him celebrate with our fans at the end last night. |

Brian, I would concur with your comment about Lloyd sometimes getting himself in a tangle but saw a bit of a step-change in him last night, Clever substitution by Cifuentes as we needed that out-ball and option to play the ball into space behind their defence and for those 25 minutes on the pitch Lloyd was superb and changed the momentum of the game, I watched him closely last night as he was mostly playing right in front of me and thought his hold-up play, lay-offs were a level above what I'd had seen previously from him, against a very physical and mobile backline, Thought he was superb last night and looks an instinctive finisher, as thought he took the right option both times, and was very unfortunate not to score. |

Been a long-time frustrated fan of Chair but, end product-wise, I think he's on his best run of form I can recall in a very long time, Obviously not match-fit & collapsed in exhaustion on full-time whistle but it seems his lack of match fitness has improved his decision making and made him less prone to hang on to the ball and beat his man, once, twice and three times, Seems to recall a similar worldie cross very late in a home game (maybe against West Brom or Swansea, possibly to Austin) where he could'nt run another yard, so stopped, got his head up and played in a cross similar to those in recent games, Couple of superb assists in recent games and cross to Dunne was deserving of another last night, Also took his man on the outside last night a couple of times and went for the early left-footed cross, so being much less predictable to defend against, Similar to the improvement in Smyth with his cut-back crosses, really think Cifuentes is beginning to unlock Chairs real potential. |

With Varane playing so well in the CDM area with Field, two natural fullbacks in Paal and Ashby, and Dunne & Morrison in good form, hopefully not the sizeable hole it would have been a month or so ago. Tough away games coming, hopefully Chairs back starting as he's the most likely outball and holds possession in the oppositions half which we need to do more of. |

In considering whether you start Frey or Kolli, you look to what should be Kolli's obvious weakness winning the outball in the air, and he's seems significantly better at this than Frey. Frey is really poor at winning the outball in the air, so unless he becomes an unlikely Stuart Wardley goal machine he doesn't start in front of Kolli for me. |

Most importantly he puts the team before himself, Does whatever he asked to do, even those car-crash tactics at Millwall away the other season, Plus in key moments like last Saturday and Birmingham at home last season he has that leadership ability that says something needs to done here, and steps up to the plate. |

Have his head up when receiving the ball and play his passes first time. Still not match fit and thought he was better yesterday and an excellent cross for Dunnes goal. |

100%, takes a risk so occasionally gets caught out, but becoming the all-round midfielder we've needed for years, Probably has highest sell on value of all our players for me, so maybe we're beginning to move in the right direction. |

It's the Dunnes & Fields who give this team its identity, The Andersen & Madsens will come & go, brief cameos, a light jog now and again, With Cook, Morrison & Varane as a poster mentioned briefly we have a core suited to the rigours of this division, I just hope Nourry doesn't make a complete hash of Dunnes contract negotiations, Like Barbet, a committed player who is ever-present and can play in a few positions should not be short-changed. |

For us anoraks on here who like this level of insight, this post is spot on, tho does beg the question why did Cifuentes start him in must not lose games and what were Bristol City thinking spending that money on him? |

Agree 100%, Seen him bobble hat & keeping a low profile in our Away End a few seasons back v Reading and at Wigan when he might have been on loan, Always makes time for the fans, another top lad in our squad. |

Yes, 100%, as last season we didn't win quite a few similar must win games but taking points off Oxford & Cardiff is so important, even this early in the season. |

Yes it's lots of small positives which taken together give alot more hope, Firstly, Oxford were so poor with zero attacking threat, which when you then consider Portsmouth, Plymouth etc you begin to believe there are 3 worst teams, Secondly you expect to see Field haring back up the pitch to stop an attack but when you see Varane doing likewise you see how we've stopped conceding so many, Other real positive when you consider how short we are in attack was not just Kolli's leap last night but how he never gave Shane Duffy a free header the other night, uses his body so well, Long way to go but with Kolli, Chair, Saito & Smyth we suddenly got an attack that's awkward to defend against and can cause problems for most teams, let's hope. |

Goodman, cheers, Northern mentioned you're a craic merchant and you mightnt be old enough for this one... But after that recent exchange it was like being Giant Haystacks taking on the the fans favourite Big Daddy (Northern) and you & Dave B were the Royal Brothers jumping over the ropes in your light blue trunks to back up the guvnor....which is to be commended.... |

Agree, he was excellent, and was stepping up with the ball more which helps us break the press rather than overly rely on the pass out to the right back, Random one but I freeze framed Kolli's leap for his assist, that was Ronaldo levels of elevation, superb from the young lad. |

Jonathan Varane after the lap of the pitch on the final whistle went over to the fans in the East Paddock sat on the billboards just chatting with random fans, taking selfies, having a laugh, Seems to really love what he does, with the likes of Dunne, Field, Varane we seem to have a core group of really good lads, who love what they do and really treat our fans with the respect they deserve, Superb on & off the pitch, those small things mean so much. |

100% agree, potentially some player, has it all, seeing him just sitting on the billboards just chatting with random fans after the game was so uplifting. |
