If we had a maverick genius in the team capable of winning on his own he'd be dropped and sold. One of the few positives of Lowe's legacy is 'north London yobbos ' which he used to refer to spuds when they put in a derisory bid for deano COYRs |
| News Comment | Is Russel Martin’s Priority Southampton FC Or His Own Agenda at 09:03:02
I don't think there is a conspiracy Nick he just isn't too canny. Aside from his adherence to a system that does not work look at his team selections and substitutions. Why have we played 3 keepers this season (apart from the injury), why do players come out from the cold then get dropped again, why do players who should start get benched and players who shouldn't be in the starting 11 regularly start. I just don't think he knows what he is doing. Which is bad for saints as the opposition usually do. Think the Bournemouth game when their manager said post match they knew what saints were going to do and therefore went into a quick 3-0 lead. I agree with the principle of not changing managers at every difficult period but we are breaking records for failure and it is difficult to see how the loop will break with SR and RM in charge. It would be helpful if the custodians of our club explained their rationale for what their strategy and mid term plans are, including why they are sticking with RM despite the lack of positive results and improving performances. | News Comment | Southampton At Aston Villa The Verdict at 23:01:08
It's good to have healthy debate and opposing views and respect for any reasoned argument. I think the flaw in any potential plan involving saints and RM yo-yoing relies on having some consistency in terms of team selection and an element of learning from mistakes which RM just has not done and in terms of team selections he doesn't do. We were very lucky to come up this season and the big twist in the season was the injury the GK which forced RM to change his approach for the last few games and importantly the final v Leeds. We still rode our luck including Leeds hitting the bar and saints almost playing into trouble several times in the first half. When we go down we'll likely lose several of our better players, it's hard to say how many, and we'll be at the mercy of sport republics punting transfer lottery - which has had mixed results - that's being generous. So we'll start next season with RM trying to get several new entrants indoctrinated into his system which will go bring the same issues we currently have. Sports Republic are not going to buy the finished article in key positions and RM isn't going to change his ideas. Sounds like checkmate on terms of any chance of progress. The least they can do is speak to the fans about their motivations because this element is showing their lack of class, which has never been on show this far in their time at the helm. I genuinely cannot see how the club progress with sports republic in charge of the club. COYRs |

Spot on Nick your comment copied below and Ugandasaint - fancy a job as there could be a vacancy soon. 'shows that our squad isn't as bad as some would have you believe, but it isn't good enough to play along the back' |
| News Comment | Southampton V Liverpool The Verdict at 23:59:07
The talent will go when we get relegated as SR will cash in. Then they'll spend the money on 10 speculative signings a few of whom might make an impression. However the majority will contribute nothing much beyond a bloated squad which RM will cause RM his usual and random selection issues. It would be interesting to be a fly on the wall at the meetings between RM and SR. COYRs |
| News Comment | Saints Not Afraid Of Sacking Russell Martin Even If They Have To Pay at 09:26:09
Agree with the sentiments above - sports republic are capable of making any situation worse. Whilst they own the club we're nothing more than a crèche for other clubs. Although they haven't shown any signs of buying one player of notable quality who would turn them a quick buck. Unfortunately the likes of Marcus only come along once if you're lucky. We were very very lucky to have him. COYRs |

Sports Republic, or more appropriately sports direct, are the issue. May as well keep RM as any change they make will probably sideways at best. We were very fortunate that Markus Lieberr was our owner at a critical time for the club and we're unlikely to have someone like him take over again but surely there has to be someone out there who wishes to invest in a club with our potential and manage it progressively and with a modicum of ambition for on pitch success. San Marco - nail on head etc. sports republic are the biggest issue at the club. They'll walk away when their hedge fund practices stop making them money. By then we'll have a husk of a club which we thankfully avoided when Marcus saved us from administration and sisu COYRs |

Tall Paul isn't,,'the answer' but he offers another option - which our football manager genius badly needs. The possession game would be enjoyable if the results were averaged out and we have a handful of points but as there is rarely end product and several defensive errors per match with around 50% leading to goals against most saints fans understandably get frustrated knowing that a capable team player sensible football wouldn't help the opposition score goals. RM is an unpredictable manager so his way of playing may eventually pay dividends but it's far from uncertain. Whereas playing pragmatic possession football would, on balance, get results. COYRs |
| News Comment | Southampton Agree Transfer Fee For Tall Paul Onuachu at 17:05:44
Even when there's an international break Saints still manage to make a mess of footballing matters 😉. Like others here it's a massive shame that he's leaving as he would have at least been a potential surprise for the opposition and we know that he is a goal scorer. I'm sure RM is working miracles on the training field.... COYRs |
| News Comment | Southampton At Cardiff The Carabao Cup Verdict at 17:37:15
Last night's game reminded me of last season i.e. we've got a decent championship side that makes hard work of what should be routine victories. A cup run would be great and the draw has been kind to us as Everton have only 1 focus this season and it won't be the milk cup Coyrs |
| News Comment | Charlie Austin To Make Debut For AFC Totton On Saturday V Forest Green Rovers at 11:53:43
It's certainly a worthwhile story to cover on an unofficial club website and plenty of saints fans will be interested in this very surprising transfer. I'd expect plenty of saints fans to go along because Austen is playing which means a nice pay day for the club. I know he had mouthed the club but he scored some very important goals for us and his post match rant v Watford provided entertainment too. Keep up the good work Nick |
| News Comment | You Can't Buy A Ferrari With Fiat Money ! Saints Owner Tells Trabzonspor at 16:59:50
Ingratiate Paul Onuachu into the squad rather than trying to sell at a price we're not going to get. We'll need as many options as possible in the premiership as Russ ball isn't going to work with the better defenders and forwards in the top flight. The big man will give us an option and make us less predictable. He didn't really get a chance and came into a club in crisis so clean slate time. |
