SWP: Balls of steel 18:35 - May 13 with 1789 views | VancouverHoop | Had what was probably his best game for us today playing out of his normal position for the entire match, but paid the price big time late on by taking a blast full on in that most sensitive masculine area (for which the referee didn't stop the game, the bar-steward.) Excellent emergency selection by Hughes I must say.
SWP: Balls of steel on 18:41 - May 13 with 1748 views | bosh67 | There are now 2 schools of thought. Does someone sit SWP down and hack into his head to see why he can't lay his talent down consistently, then give him another season, or do we move him on? No brainer had we gone down but less obvious now. Personally I think it's his head that needs sorting out, not his talent. I still think we have to give Hogan his chance as the guy can play anywhere and it's about attitude, as we have seen from players like Mackie.

SWP: Balls of steel on 18:44 - May 13 with 1723 views | BklynRanger | Agreed. The only other games he played well in were Newcastle and Wolves. Useless going forward but worked his balls off covering that area that their forwards so often exploit. Took one square on the balls but staggered to his feet like a smack-head in a trailer park. As a player I still want him sold, but he can leave with my respect as an individual after that.

My sense is he's not really a front runner any more. If you look at his career he hasn't developed very much as a striker or forward player since his days as a kid at Man City. Everyone in the league knows his moves and his weaknesses. However in deeper role, like he played today, he still has something to offer I think, at least as a spot sub. He tracks back and tackles well, and can use his speed on the break. Trouble is his distribution isn't great, maybe if he can improve that he'll last in the this league for another couple of years.

Thought it a strange selection in front of Tarbatt, still do. Maybe it is was a bit of a 'swan song' , MH not probably hoping we could realisticly get more than a point, playing SWP against a club he had ties with and maybe a point to prove. Can't see MH selling him off in the close season but maybe/hopefully more of a bit part player if he gets the players in he wants. Don't agree with it being a confidence matter, he's played at the top of the professional game in this country, thought he was fortunate to get so many caps for England and his game has been on the wane for a good while, he's been found out big time this season, not surrounded by players of a very high standard who could cover if he had a poor game, he was brought in as one of our 'star players' they don't get the luxury of bedding in, they are the ones you look to get you out of trouble and be an inspiration to others, SWP unfortunately has failed that test.
SWP: Balls of steel on 19:32 - May 13 with 1540 views | antoknee64 | 1: Thought he was bought to be an attackive midfielder. 2: Traore did a much better job when he came on. 3:SWP or Adel, doh no brainer for me. p.s What happened to Luke Young, was our best purchase up until hes injury.
SWP: Balls of steel on 20:13 - May 13 with 1452 views | Billy_Kershaw | I thought SWP was fantastic today, did the job which I guess Hughes asked him to do. His mobility and engine (over, say Buzz) made it difficult for the home team to attack our penalty area effectively. For all City's possession, they seemed to be running out of ideas late in the second half. SWP definitely contributed towards that.

Love Hogan, but just cant see where he would get into the side. Pleanty of passion for Rangers but just too lightweight. Still has my respect for coming over to fams and giving his shirt at one of our all time lows... Posh away. Slightly ironic, that of the other two that came over, one was the loan keeper from Wolves. Still Hogan has an opportunity over the preseason to impress so maybe we will see him next year | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Getting on here a little late as spent the morning responding to emails + txts + boring anyone and everyone in the office about our performance! I felt that blow to the balls from 12k miles away and appreciated the poor we fella chasing after someone while still doubled over (at least I think he was?!) Like the 10 left on the pitch thought he played with a lot of heart and if an off season could get him back to where he started with us would give him another crack. However if could get Jarvis or Moses or ?? then maybe he moves on again...

Agree. SWP was absolutely phenomenal today. But does he deserve to stay? Probably not. He's had bad performance after bad performance.

I list this order of merit........ Hill, Derry, Mackie, Ferdinand, Kenny, Cisse, Taiwo, Onuaha, Barton (who had put in a great shift until his red mist moment), Traore, Zamora, Bothroyd... and also I noticed a needless handball on the edge of the area in the first half, a lob in the air which Lescott set up Cisse's first goal and a ball in the nuts from...... SWP. Hardly constitutes a good game rating. Ran around a bit and fell over. As per normal Pacal Votan has it right.

Thats what I thought while I was watching but in hindsight, we barely strung 3 passes together all game so that goes for most of the team to be fair!! By the second half he realised that there wasn't gonna be an outlet to help him keep it and just resorted to whacking it like the rest of them!!

Agree, i respect his workrate (which has never been an issue) and he put in a great defensive shift - but everytime he had the ball he ran into trouble and gave it away dangerously or just mucked up a simple pass. Mackie also gave the ball away, but i can remember him winning throw ins etc and us actually attacking down his wing too. He should have just done what Traore did, use your pace and go for the corner and THEN look for options.
SWP: Balls of steel on 09:41 - May 14 with 962 views | Northernr | Great defensive shift, no so crash hot going the other way but it wasn't that sort of game. Nice to see after the constant, daily abuse he's taken on here from one or two.

I wouldn't abuse the player as he always gives 100% but if he's starting games next season we will struggle again. We need much better.
