If a miracle happened and we went up via the playoffs 09:09 - Jan 19 with 12208 views | numptydumpty | Would you want that ??? For me, an emphatic NO... If the playing fields were much more even, then absolutely yes, but it could do to us like what has happened to Luton and many others. We are on the crest of a wave currently - and I want that to continue for as long as is possible. Yes this scenario is very unlikely to happen but just wondered what others thought. It's amazing what's happening at the moment but the Leicester game who have lost seven in a row in the premiership shows the gulf. Just wondering what others think ?? [Post edited 19 Jan 9:11]

If a miracle happened and we went up via the playoffs on 20:40 - Jan 20 by kensalriser | I've seen 40/1 for top 6, not sure if it's a reputable bookie but those are very good odds considering. |
I can't figure it, Kensal. We're 6 points (maybe 7 with goal difference) off the playoffs. We're 9 points (maybe 10 with goal difference) off relegation. But they think we're twice as likely to be relegated as finishing in the Top 6. Maybe the bookies are getting heavy money on the Top 6. Maybe they think they'll spend heavily this month. Maybe they think their squads are bigger and able to withstand injuries. All of those things would be vaild, but put it all together and - while I think we're most likely to stay in this division - are we really twice as likely to be relegated as finish Top 6? Seems skewed to me.

If a miracle happened and we went up via the playoffs on 21:06 - Jan 20 with 1101 views | WatfordR | I feel that the likes of Brighton and Brentford. when they got promoted. went up with teams who had the athletic attributes to compete in the Prem. It took them more than a transfer window or two to put together those squads. I don't think we have any more than three or four who might have those attributes right now. If we have a chance to go up, we have to take it I think, but I'd be more confident that with Marti still at the helm for the next two years, we'd have enough of a squad to hold our own for a year or two should we go up then.

If a miracle happened and we went up via the playoffs on 19:47 - Jan 20 by NewBee | Regarding Luton and the best stadium in L1 etc, it's not that long since they were non-league, and in the shittiest stadium South of the Arctic Circle. The point surely being that the new stadium can give them financial security for the next 50 years i.e. plenty of time for them to climb back up to the PL again, even if after a spell in L1 or below. (Agree with all the rest of your post) |
To be fair to Luton last season they were involved in much closer games than Sheffield United. They certainly were not losing 5-0, 6-0 and 8-0 at home like the Blades. With FFP being an issue Luton will benefit from gate receipts if they can get 23 to 25k in the ground whatever the new capacity is. If we remain at Loftus Road with 17 or 18k then Luton may be able to pay bigger transfer fees and wages so players join them rather than us with their greater gate receipts. If we are not to move away into a bigger ground then we will need to be in the Premiership again to boost the income and above all, stay there. It won't be this season we go up anyway but we must ensure next season we don't waste the first 15 games again.
If a miracle happened and we went up via the playoffs on 22:05 - Jan 20 with 958 views | NorthantsHoop | If you get the chance just have to go for it and try and get a foothold in the Prem, but the odds on staying up for promoted teams are pretty poor and getting poorer as the gap between the haves and have nots continues to widen. You have to admire what teams like Brentford, Bournemouth, Brighton, Fulham and Palace have done to get traction in the top division.

I have zero insight into the methodology of the bookies' actuaries, but as you say, it makes no sense today. Maybe there's still weighting from money in the market from earlier in the season.

If a miracle happened and we went up via the playoffs on 19:33 - Jan 20 by BushRanger82 | And some fans want the club to disrespect cup competitions for, what would be for many, an unpallatable return to a league we'd never really compete in. Just making up the numbers like Brentford and Fulham. God, I hate this modern game sometimes. |
Would you say then that you are just making up the numbers in the championship as correct me if I’m wrong but you have been mid table most seasons.

Yes, as that is very much what mid table teams do.
If a miracle happened and we went up via the playoffs on 00:12 - Jan 22 with 369 views | CiderwithRsie | OK, so this is now starting to seem like not a silly question, even if still very unlikely. I'd say "No", but not because I don't want us in the Premier League. I think it's a year too early. Kids like Kolli, Lloyd, Saito, Morgan are having fun in the Championship. If the pressure of relegation is off and we aren't fretting over promotion either, they have the chance to express themselves and grow. Follow that up with a season of being hammered in the Premiership and you might take the innocence out of them. Give us a fun run in to May, maybe one or two good signings, and then let's go next year. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I would agree with you that finishing 16th in the Premiership after a relegation struggle is better than finishing between 16th to 20th after a relegation struggle in the Championship as we have done in the previous two seasons. It will only be better in the Championship if we keep finishing between third and tenth and compete for the play offs season after season rather than trying to stay up in the Premiership. But then each fan has their own opinion so I can only truly speak for myself. It has been a while since we troubled teams at the top of the Championship so the current run we are on is welcomed.
