Hi All,

Burton Fan here!

Your manager Jim Mcnulty has become overwhelming favourite it seems for our job.

Is he someone you hold in a high regard or someone you're not fussed about losing?

What's his style of football/formation?

Best of luck for the remainder of the season (don't return the favour...season over already!!)

The key issue (for me at least) is whether he went for interview

No harm in speaking, as a matter of courtesy, to reps from Burton if approached - but was there anything pro-active by JM?

*troll alert... someone may pop along to claim i'm "destabilising the club"

I would imagine every young manager in the lower reaches of the pyramid would be hungry to progress to a higher level, for both professional and personal reasons.

Jim McNulty would be daft not to at least listen to what was being offered, rather than turn them down point blank.

I don't for a minute think he's unhappy here, I think he is committed to the job in hand, but also naturally curious as to what else is out there.

We can all look at a garage forecourt or an estate agent window, but it doesn't mean we want to buy a car or move house.

Wealdstone here we come. Intact.

There’s a difference between looking at a car on a garage forecourt and trying to buy said car but being refused due to bad credit.

So was all the leg work done from Jim's camp then? Was there not an approach from Burton?
Did Burton give him an interview for shits and giggles. Surely he wouldn't have even got to interview stage if he has what ever it is you are referring to as a credit rating is poor.

Once again, we don't know whether he wasn't good enough or if he turned them down because he wanted to stay. I doubt we're going to know, so how can you be so sure that he's trying to get out?

From that analogy it seems you are insinuating he applied for the job. Have I got that correct?

You can reply with or without personal insults this time. Either way is fine with me.

Personal insults? That’s rich coming from you! Your twitter is an absolute disgrace, with every other tweet being name calling including calling people nonces, f4nny’s, w4nkers and c*nts.

I sent you a pm with the info I had, you all chose not to read it, don’t expect me to re-post on here.

Nice to see you following me so closely. Still not over Cambridgegate are you?

When I start going onto football forums telling complete strangers how “fit my missus is” in some kind of game of oneupmanship, then I’ll be worried.

You’ve implied on a public forum that he applied for a job so in the interests of balance you should answer a question pertaining to if that’s what you meant on the same public forum. I’m not interested in personal messages, I’ll just stick my thoughts on the forum.

I’m also no “keyboard warrior” as you also implied. I’d say 50% of people on here know me and for the ones that don’t then my name is Kelvin Finan.

I’ve had many disagreements on both here and Twitter with many people and happily discussed it over a pint. I try my very best to avoid people who would eat themselves if they were made of chocolate though. Not worth my time.

Read what I posted and make your own mind up. Whether he was approached or sent in an official application, I do not know. I do know he got to the last 2 and thought he had got the job.

For reference, Keith Hill was in contention for the Tranmere job during November of our first promotion season under him. It was a situation that went on for a few days (we drew 3-3 at Luton in the cup after being 3 down during that period), he stayed at the club.

As per Chris Dunphy’s book.

Everyone will have their own views on it and whether it was right or wrong and how it may affect us and what it could potentially mean for the future. I know how it’s made me feel, considering everything that’s happened between the club and JM. I’ve come to my conclusion after taking all that in to consideration, and no doubt others will have come to their own conclusion too.

Fully support that everyone feels differently on any given situation. It’s more when posting on here we can only go off the facts that are available to give reasons for how we feel.

Without substantiating opinion/feeling with detail, no one else would be able to reassess their own thoughts accordingly.

At the moment, my opinion is similar to how it was for the Hill scenario above, a manager who might have moved to another club hasn’t. As then, we are challenging for promotion with a good squad, so it would be a bad time to be losing the manager.

Find it strange that some folk are upset that BJ has been linked to an another job. Seems to be staying here. Then people are then questioning his loyalty all the same.
This is 2024 people move jobs for better terms more than they ever have before. People say there is no loyalty in football, well there is no loyalty in business period.
To us football is an emotional attachment, but for those in the trade it is a job. I can’t hold people in football to different standard to the rest of society. So don’t care if McNulty approach or was approached by, that’s business. If he still in the dugout on Saturday he will have my support.

Well said that man.
If he is/was approached by another club then he is obviously doing something right to get the attention.
Just like in our lives if a Job Offer pops up do we just ignore it? Probably not.

Genuinely bemused by some of what I'm reading.

I find the lack of appreciation for Jim mindblowing at times. I think a lot of us dont quite realise just how tough those first 18 months in the role were, and to come out the other side of it with a more than respectable league position, saleable assets from our academy and some really smart recruitment that is a big part of our squad today is commendable at the very least. Not only that, lets not forget; we've had a good start to the season?!

Jim will leave us one day. I hope it isnt soon and I hope that he sees out our 3-year plan at a minimum. However football doesnt quite work like that sometimes and as long as he continues to do a really good job with us, then this wont be the first football club to come knocking on the door for his services.

None of us truly know whether he applied or was approached. I'd be very surprised if he actively applied given the 3-year contract and backing he has with us at the moment.

I agree with what you are saying, my issue is that it’s the first team to show an interest, and it’s burton, who could be argued are a smaller club than us, who we could also be playing in the same league as us next season. When KH left it was to a much bigger club in a much better position, so as much as I was gutted then, I understood. This I don’t, and it feels like a kick in the teeth.

A year or so down the line when he’s repaid his loyalty and a decent sized club comes in, he’d have my well wishes. Not in this instance though.

It is eminently clear, then, that 2 credible sports journalists appear to have possibly clarified or alluded to the fact that maybe Burton have followed protocol in perhaps contacting our club in the first instance in order that the contracted manager could be approached about the vacant role at Burton and our club advised the compensation Burton would have to pay if Jim breached his current contract by terminating early and joining Burton, and this may or may not have led to Jim contacting/being contacted by Burton and/or our club to advise this was the case and that he was free to talk to Burton as a potential suitor, unless Jim moved first and the protocol was effectively reversed but still sort of followed in a fashion, understandable given that Jim's current employer may have planted a seed of doubt in his mind by telling Burton how much we expect to trouser from Jim moving if he severed ties and all links with Rochdale, and this series of events triggered a betting frenzy which had Jim as clear favourite eventually narrowed down the straight leg to 2, Jim thinking he had won but apparently hadn't because he hadn't and someone else has won and that is...someone off the cuff, I expect.
This series of definitely maybes has left Jim, much like Burton, appearing a bit like marmite in some areas, some think he is extracting the pee while others have buttoned up on rumour and speculation, zip zip hooray that he is staying put with his belt and braces approach.
Hopefully that clears it all up. Some poor sod, having caused turmoil in the betting markets of high street bookies, will now be a fiver down and trembling at the prospect of displaying his bare arse in the window of a well known clothing outlet.

Thanks for staying or not Jim. I doff my cap to you.

Nailed it for me. I’ve said the same re the absolute shitshow he had to put up with in his first full season and he’s done a tremendous job in starting to turn the club around in such a short space of time. Anyone who gets upset about his head potentially being turned (who knows what package may have been on the table) needs to toughen up a bit. What’s up with seeing what the opportunity offered?

Very well put that man.

If Burton approached Dale and unlocked the right to speak to him, he would have been mental to pass up the opportunity, even 100% sure he didn't want to go there.

He came to Dale as a player and 'worked his way up'; speaking to Burton, gaining interview experience, a feel for how another club is, money, budgets, strategies etc. would be INVALUABLE for him in his professional/personal development and bank him some exp. in preparation for an interview he actually wants/needs to pass.
