Dykes sold apparently on 22:27 - Aug 28 by Beckenhamhoop | I’m not saying I know the details of this. I am merely passing on what I read. It is possible that the club have paid off some and not all of Dykes’ contract, which would save them money. |
Out of interest where exactly did you read this?

Dykes sold apparently on 13:45 - Aug 29 by ParkRoyalR | Look at B'hams spending this year, similar to maybe Ipswich the previous season, with their new investors they're not what I would consider a League 1 side. |
But they ARE a League 1 side! Nice a bloke as he is and I wish him well, it’s his level asks shown by no team higher up the ladder wanting him.

Dykes sold apparently on 22:56 - Aug 28 by SydneyRs | Look I like the effort he always put in and he scored some decent goals. But surely the fact he's dropped a division when leaving says a lot about how good he actually is. |
Also says a lot about the money involved. I think he would have preferred Hearts Brum are flashing the cash

Dykes sold apparently on 13:01 - Aug 29 by ParkRoyalR | Warburton bought Bonne as a goal scorer and imo bought Dykes to play as a focal point to assist the 10's in exactly the same way Steve Clarke sets up Dykes in his attack. So many of our fans (not directed at yourself) think centre forward and think of Clive Allen & Paul Goddard back in the day playing as a pair, whereas Dykes role as a lone striker 20 yards+ from the 10s is so completely different in modern football, Can't recall the away game but Andersen got to the bye-line, Dykes ran to the near post and dragged the Centre Backs with him leaving the space created behind for Chair to step into and score, Now Andersen immediately ran and congratulated Dykes, as he had executed a training ground drill perfectly, Que no doubt for some of our occasional away day fans to berate Dykes for never scoring goals or regurgitating his first season weakness of always being "on his heels' and I give Austin the credit for helping correct this, Dykes has flaws we didn't improve, similar to Chair most noticeably, and I think it's a shame we haven't got the best out of these two in recent seasons, particularly Chair who has greater natural ability and potential. |
come on mate we've all had a drink but comparing him to Paul Goddard is a bit mental He was never signed to partner Bonne, they only started 4 games together (Birmingham, Barnsley, Swansea and Fulham) before Austin arrived, in those 4 we lose 3 drew 1 and scored zero No one is saying he hasn't had good games, he's done some good things in 4 years but as our main striker, which he has been from day one, he hasn't scored enough goals and thats not down to Chair or anyone else

Dykes sold apparently on 13:07 - Aug 29 by ParkRoyalR | He's a very decent Championship level lone striker, which is why a bigger club with greater potential than ours have offered him a very sizeable £1m+ pa salary up to his 32nd birthday, Ask yourself why Steve Clarke picks him ahead of Che Adams & Oli McBurnie and your some way to understanding modern football and how traditional roles within the team game of football have changed. |
because Che Adams and Oli McBurnie are both shit

I wasn't comparing him to Paul Goddard just how the role of strikers has changed in the modern game, We haven't played with out & out wingers feeding a Centre Forward for a long time but with goal scoring responsibility shared between the attacking 4, Notwithstanding, Dykes should be a 1 in 3 striker which he got close to on odd runs but fell off last year markedly.

I think he's gone there for more money. He may also think he'll get more game time.

I’m not in the habit of believing too much I read on Twitter but occasionally you come across something that stands out a bit and this was one of those occasions. A poster who exclusively posts about Dykes was steaming about his treatment by the club and stated that he’d been paid off and that it had cost the club a lot of money. That Twitter account jessiejones1338 has now been deleted. I’m not the only person who thought it was someone close to Dykes. It was on a conversation on the below Twitter account @SM24_06 Sadly all the comments that were made about the transfer are now not accessible because, as I said, the account has been deleted. Which is odd in itself. Sam @SM24_06 Seems like this is a burner of someone close to dykes. Looks like the club have wanted him out all summer and have then scrambled at the last offer to get him off the wage bill #QPR This Post is from an account that no longer exists. Dykes sold apparently on 20:37 - Aug 29 with 2116 views | queensparker | Interesting all this and I would have to agree on the role of the modern centre forward - it’s got to to be the most thankless task on the pitch these days Your main role seems to be chasing around constantly in a “forward press” while the oppo pass back and forth at the back. Endless running which 99% of the time will be basically pointless Your secondary role is to battle with 2/3 centre backs for long clearances with no other centre forward alongside you, so the odds are low you’re going to get anywhere When your team does attack, putting in early crosses is now out of fashion so if a winger does get in a crossing position the odds are they’re going to cut back or pass it into the D. On the rare occasion they put in a classic 90s cross you’re supposed to have made that run despite it being a waste of time the last 9 times you did it Meanwhile you’re expected to score 15-20 goals a season somehow A lot of Championship centre forwards now are distractions to allow the rest of the team to play. Lyndon wasn’t bad at that [Post edited 29 Aug 20:47]

He went to Birmingham because he wanted to leave and he could not go through the rigmarole of making new friends so went somewhere where all his old pals had gone so the dream team could be renewed. But heard he was bit gutted because although four of his old mates were there he thought his best pal dozza was there and turns out he was there and then he wasn't.. Queensparker, on a forum where many thought Chair & BOS were better players than Eze, where so many are at a loss to explain why we've never had any bids for Chair, Finally, somebody more eloquent and articulate than me hits the nail squarely in the head, Our total overhaul is maybe much needed, but not without significant risk, we all hope it works.

Good points. But you're leaving out the part where 90%+ of the time Dykes did find himself in a position to... you know... kick the ball towards goal in the hope that it finds its way between the sticks, he invariably shat his pants. That awful reaction noise of a Loftus Road crowd in unison asking each other "how the fk has he put it there?" was far too common with Lyndon. He wasn't / isn't a bad player and he certainly never dipped south of the 'trying as hard as I can here, lads' line but I for one am very glad we're trying someone new in his stead this season.
Dykes sold apparently on 09:58 - Aug 30 with 1455 views | Hoopsie | If in the modern game (whatever that means) the main function of the striker or centre forward is anything other than to score goals, would it not be a problem? I would like to think the main role of a defender is to defend, centre half is to run midfield. It is a simple game, or am I silly? (Maybe both)

C'mon Clive as Brian rightly & politely called me out for a unnecessary moment of petulance & appreciate you're Tom & Dick but regardless of what people think of his footballing ability he was a good servant to the club, Coming back prematurely from pneumonia, injury twice, didn't run down his contract like a former fans favourite, quietly supported community work of the club without using it for his benefit, unlike a former..... Absolutely undeserving to be spoke of on same terms as Roberts & Dozzell.

Dykes sold apparently on 10:32 - Aug 30 with 1215 views | terryb | Anyone would think that the deep playing, false number 9, role is something new! I've no idea when, or who, introduced it, but the Hungarian team that won 6-3 & 7-1 against England in 1953 employed it. Perhaps having a player as brilliant as the team, Nándor Hidegkuti, made this work. Don Revie played the same role at Manchester City. It is possible that Herbert Chapman had his Huddersfield & Arsenal ( 6 times champion between them) teams played this way as well.
