Middlesbrough v Swansea City : Match day thread (Updated Thurs) on 18:09 - Aug 10 by Fireboy2 | He only copied what most boro players were doing, that ref was f@#£ing shocking. It looked a dodgy penalty and from a distance it looked a penalty for eon and anon in the second half. Franco is going to good for us, he's comfortable in any position in midfield and he's onky going to get better. |
My mate a northerner and boro fan was at the game, he thought the pen was soft! ref is another one who wont give us much in matches.

It was a dumb lunge though giving that ref a chance to s few us . Boro made some shocking misses in front of goal and their keeper looked very flaky . They were pretty much garbage and will do nothing if note this season

We didn’t really ask any questions of their keeper though so difficult to judge.

I am not surprised that williams didn't mention the ref, it's the first game and it's a long season ahead, he doesn't want to rock the boat.

You may think they are garbage, but they'll still finish above us in the league.

Interestng then that Williams doesn't seem to agree with you, https://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/luke-williams-makes-t Maybe Williams is a doom and gloom merchant, or perhaps it's just the reality, the truth that some people cannor accept, from that link, "We gave the opposition so many breaks in the game with loose passes and unnecessary fouls and they jumped all over that. I thought they were good value for the win."

the good thing is Luke has identified the issues lets hope he works on those and corrects them this week. Actually refreshing to hear a manger say it as it is witjout blaming the ref the coach journey or hanging players out to dry.

What! The manager's (any manager) number one priority is to motivate the team before they enter the playing area. 25% of that starting eleven were barely awake for the first 20 minutes, of our first competitive game of a brand-new season. The manager should stand up and be counted. Why were those 3/4 players in a dream like trance? I'm nowhere near writing him off, but our manager needs to up his game by 100% to carry any conviction from my point of view.

No. He doesn’t champ Oxford Utd, ffs, seem well organised and stuffed Norwich. Pompey coming up from third Kevlar are starting the season running To name but two who I don’t think are garbage He’s a bugger ain’t he Meanwhile, our coach seems very downbeat ,so he might not be wrong . It was shyte and you know it was. Your posts show you are anything but upbeat and that’s. Not surprising We. Agree more than disagree Sorry

Middlesbrough v Swansea City : Match day thread (pre & post match) on 01:02 - Aug 12 with 526 views | RichardO | The concern for me is that when teams want or need to put pressure on us we seem unable to stop them. Cooper's team was built on a solid defence which even then had it's scary moments. The last three seasons our defending has been woeful and that is not just the defence but the midfield as well, at the end of last season we seemed to have turned a corner but that was against a number of struggling teams, there were signs of Grimes again dropping and making a back three but that has become so predictable we have pace on the wings lets use them quickly, we have good attacking fullbacks but in an away game you really need them to concentrate on their defending which for me hasn't been good enough giving wingers time and space to turn them. Really need to go to a back four with the midfield actually in the midfield, yes dropping back to defenders by midfielders can be a good ploy to keep possession but not all the time. The thing that is really doing my head in is throw ins, no quick thinking lobs down the line catching defenses off guard , no it is possession at all cost that invariably end up back with our goalie loosing the 50 yards gained from the goal keepers tactical kicking to the touch lines in the first place. This playing by tactically well thought out moves and set pieces is great except when the opposition knows what your tactics are. Yes set pieces have to be worked on but so to is the ability to see opportunities to keep opposition teams off guard. Variety in movement and passing is just as vital as being organised,. I thought the team set up was poor leaving us over committing and leaving us wide open for counter attacks. But it is a new season new players haven't bedded in and yet it is the players who have been with us a number of years who are looking poor. Early days yes but let's not make it an excuse for a bad preformance.
Middlesbrough v Swansea City : Match day thread (pre & post match) on 08:48 - Aug 12 with 432 views | Azzuriswan | Very negative performance from us especially with Grimes playing at the back. Very slow and ponderous moving forward. So many passes going astray. Much better second half with the introduction of Ronald and the new boy who never had much of the ball. One shot on target? Their goalie would have had frostbite on a winters day. Still a dubious penalty won the day for them....onwards and upwards and forwards not backwards please

Why is that ? Is this down to pollution? FWIW ,recent health issues aside, missus and me have stopped wild swimming in rivers as it really is not pleasant in so many areas . Anyway, back on topic… We move on to the next game
