Just watched it and to me this is the most impactful excerpt from the entire interview and perfectly summarizes the insanity of the current US foreign policy.
“Do the United States need this? What for? Thousands of miles away from your national territory. Don’t you have anything better to do?
You have issues on the border. Issues with migration. Issues with the national debt. More than 33 trillion dollars. You have nothing better to do, so you should fight with Ukraine?
Wouldn’t it be better to negotiate with Russia?”
Putin is correct. The US should be concerned with their own issues and not funding wars on the other side of the planet. Sounds kind of like “America First”.
Cast your mind back to 1994. To save me writing something new just look at Wiki.
"On December 5, 1994 the leaders of Ukraine, Russia, United Kingdom, and the United States signed a memorandum to provide Ukraine with security assurances in connection with its accession to the NPT as a non-nuclear weapon state. The four parties signed the memorandum, containing a preamble and six paragraphs."
In the Budapest Memorandum Ukraine gave up its ability to deter Russian aggression in return for a guarantee of its sovereignty and safety to which the USA was a party, Should all that be forgotten?
Right up until the invasion Russian leaders like Lavrov lied about their intentions. Ukraine has good reason to think that negotiations now would merely create a pause that allowed Russia to build up greater military capability.
But is it worth arguing with somebody who probably believes this is about "denazification", and who appears to vacillate between radical socialism and lining up with the most extreme segment of MAGA opinion?

Morning John I struggle with anyone who sees any good at all in Outin. He is a killer He is a manipulator with a rancid, corrupt and vicious security network. He invades other countries and lauded for it We ,in the west, being cowards can’t even agree as to how to wipe him out,as he should . With a president as weak as Biden, and a preening clown a potential future president ,he is in full erectile mode. He is running rings around the west . He prefers Trump as he is simply as warped, narcissistic who he can play with .
Russians ,being basucalky sub human by nature and prone to butchering their own ,love a powerful leader ,one who will seek to keep mother Russia omnipotent and a force throughout the world . Those who spied for this land of filth had much blood on their hands . Nobody of any sanity should support this country of pure evil with a history of blood flowing throughout the land .

I can't wait to see Bidens interview by a Russian journalist
Why would that happen?
The whole point of the interview (apart from the first 30 mins that gave Putin the opportunity to give a history lesson), was to give an anti-Ukrainian journalist air time to share his thoughts with Putin on why the US is wrong to fund the war against him.
Where’s the parallel?

Putin supporters are special. They are beyond our mindset You cannot get into the grads if these people,Gwyn. They are seriously deranged Meanwhile, they still bimbard Ukraine and we do nothing really of consequence
Negotiate with Russia for what exactly? How much of Ukraine Russia gets to keep? Is that what's being suggested?
If you agree that the USA should negotiate with Russia and give away a large part of a sovereign country then you are beyond saving. If the USA has bigger issues they should keep out of it, that would be an acceptable version but negotiate? What right does the USA have to negotiate with Russia over Ukraines future?
The reality is though, what Russia is doing in Ukraine is a big issue for them, Russia is after the natural resources AND the massive grain production is part of that, Ukraine being the bread basket of Europe. Ukrainian farms are growing crops for export across the European Union, as well as China, Turkey, India, Egypt and Africa. Imagine if Russia got their hands on that, they would have 25% of the worlds wheat production and 50% of the sunflower oil production. it's a massive economic gain.
"You have nothing better to do, so you should fight with Ukraine?". There may well be murky interests behind the scenes and Ukraine may well have their own corruption issues but it ultimately comes down to this, do you genuinely believe in the right to self determination?, do you believe that the Ukrainian people genuinely want to exercise self determination and pivot towards more western ideals?
If your answer to both those questions is yes then it is morally reprehensible not to support Ukraine against Russia.

Not at all. Russia has more resources than probably any other country. Russia has had some great harvests lately too. A lot of Ukrainian land has been bought up by western countries recently.
Russia has more resources than it can deal with. if anything, it needs more investment to access them

If Ukraine did not have grain ,Outin would be less interested ,although his pride ,being ex KGB ,is hurt and he won’t rest until he gets back firmer lands they conquered . Negotiate I read? With Russia ? Yeah,we ve tried that at Yalta and look what happened. Speak to any Pole
There is reasoning behind the Kremlin choosing Tucker Carlson for the interview and it’s not just because he’s one of the most gormless and most easily led journalists in world history. They are obviously trying to get their message out to the conservative base in the US who are naturally skeptical around sending billions to another country.

When Yelenskyy banned all opposition, that sort of threw a monkey wrench into your argument that self determination is at stake.

How are you supposed to hold a free and fair election while your country is being invaded and occupied? If he maintains once the war is over then I will criticise.

I would have thought that any idea that sovereignty and self-determination were not involved disappeared when in the interview Putin repeated his claim that Ukraine is a fictional country that has always been part of Russia. Some of us are starting to think there may be the odd closet commie in the ranks of MAGA!

It's not. Only the eastern provinces are in conflict. Most of the Ukraine is business as normal. It's not like Gaza

I mentioned this in another thread - that the link that is strengthening between Putin and the American right is just bizarre?
Are they natural bedfellows?
I’d argue that from the US point of view, it’s shows a staggering lack of knowledge of history, both political and religious (American Evangelical Christians and the Russian Orthodox Church.. really!!).
I suppose it an outcome of extreme populism in politics. Make America Great Again means the the ends justifies all means, even jumping into bed with autocrats world wide.

Post like this absolutely boil my blood. You are not an intelligent contrarian, you're an absolute (redacted) idiot. ALL provinces are in a state of war and Russia attempts to bomb DAILY and even if that were not the case you cannot hold a full free and fair election if some of your provinces are occupied by a hostile power.

These days with some very slick and clever people around it is not that difficult to create a narrative which gains sympathy of people who are not so clever or benefitted from good education.
USA are guilt of tolerating Israeli brutality adding another justification for Russia to be able to do the same thing.
Both the West Bank and the Donbass/ Southern Ukraine oblasts are "illegally occupied territories". Israel have not annexed the West Bank.
Ukraine has the ability to starve the Russians out. West Bank people sit tight and wait for a solution. There are 500,000 Israelis in West Bank and 3M Palestinians. There is little chance of a Israeli majority for 50 years or more. There is a peaceful solution.

Absolutely, it is obvious that the reasonable solution is two states based on the 1967 borders. It even has precedent for a lasting peace, given that Egypt and Israel have been at peace since the return of Sinai.
It is extremely unfortunate that both sides have completely unreasonable leadership.

Kiev is a big place. The odds of being killed or injured by Russian munitions are not great. From what read anecdotally Russian murder about 20-100 people per week in a quiet week. When they go in really hard a lot more. Population of Kiyiv 2.88 million.
Not quite sure what your post i supposed to prove. Life goes on and beer companies sell beer.
