Nobody is getting rich from hosting the football club at the sports club, indeed its much cheaper than running our own facility, the only cost of the pitches is the time and materials the groundstaff use to keep them in a decent condition. It maybe that there is a charge for using the clubhouse as they eat there and use it for team meetings , changing rooms etc which will use power and require more cleaning etc.

Its not perfect but I'm pretty sure that if the players need to increase running fitness, they could go to Springfield Park and use the track a couple of times a week. And dont they wear all monitors when they play which tell the coaches how far they have run and for how long and so on? If there are some players who are obviously doing less than others, you would assume it would be picked up very quickly.

A standard Lacrosse pitch is 110m x 60m , so narrower than Spotland but a bit longer, (104m x 69m).The Rochdale pitches are used for the North of England Lacrosse finals so you assume they are at the standard size for Lacrosse. There is no reason why one of the Lacrosse pitches couldnt be used with goals on the long sides to use the required width if needed.
Equally, you could argue that a smaller training pitch would speed up their thought processes as things will happen quicker.

If the players aren't fit enough, I think you would first look at the fitness coaching rather than the facilities. If your squad is reasonably settled, your pre- season work should be more productive, changing the team every summer is not a recipe for success. Maybe the reason some of out players have not been successsful at other clubs is because they lack the mental attitude required for professional sport. Danny Lloyd provides an excellent example of what a player with the right attitude can achieve in returning from a severe injury with determination and self motivation.
My worry is that mentally too many dont see any great downside to being relegated and that Rochdale is just another stop on their football journey

I would imagine that the ยฃ500k quoted includes the cost of using Stalybridge for the Youth Team games and any venues used for the academy. Having a single multi-use venue in the borough has to be the right way forward. Can we not invest in somebody to work on grant applications to try and achieve a successful outcome for the wider community?

Most grants are only available to not for profit companies and organisations. The FA has money for pitches etc but I dont think they will give it to a professional club. The EFL had ยฃ200m available as interest free loans but only offered it to the Championship for covid recovery. Who knows how much has been borrowed and how much may be still available?
Potentially RMBC have money that could be used to provide a mortgage and would have to be involved from a planning permission perspective if a new site has been identified, so an investor might only need to guarantee such a loan and not actually find the ยฃ5 million or more required.

Thats why you need people that know what they are doing. Burton Albion train on facilities that cost ยฃ6m. Half was paid for by the National Lottery and the rest by other football grants. If we can galvanise bids to show that the facility is a 7 day a week community hub, with training facilities beyond just RAFC, a hub for the Community Trust etc etc there is money to be had. It needs a lot of effort and bid writing of course

I take it that the ยฃ5m is not just for development but also to purchase the land...

It's only a few months ago he was the next big thing at Exeter. Hell of a signing.

Have to say that I am getting a little concerned at the lack of transfer activity. It is almost 10 days since the window re opened and tonight we are playing our 3rd game since then.
To date we have released 3 players and only extended the short term contract of Danny Lloyd.
Other clubs at the foot of the table have been doing a tad more business. Are players reluctant to sign for us or is the really no money available?

I have agree, I thought we would have brought in a couple of people by know, but there is not a sniff of any incoming players.

I think this may be the most important transfer window in Dale history, Sure we need changes but they must be right, No repetition of the Campbell Sharman and Ball disaster a year ago.

Give him time.

Indeed. Quality not quantity. The obverse got us into this mess.

Still no sign of any incoming players. With Slicker returning to Man City we have now released 4 players and signed none during the transfer window.
Hope we do not leave all our business until the end of Jan.

It's obviously a deliberate ploy by the club so they can enjoy watching fans having an attack of the vapours

There's a very real risk of some turning Japanese if we don't have an incoming by Saturday?

Jake Eastwood returns to us on loan.

I think we need players to fill other positions, rather then a goalkeeper.

Eastwood is 26 and has only started 34 games, he really needs game time but I cant see him replacing O'Donnell unless he has picked up an injury. If he played a full season here, he could do a good job and put himself in the shop window like Sanchez did but I guess that depends where he is in the queue at Sheffield, really he should be number 2 , but if he isnt as suggested by them loaning him out, he needs to move on .

We desperately needed a number 2; 1 in case something happens to Oโ€™Donnell and 2 to apply some pressure to Oโ€™Donnell.

Itโ€™s irrelevant in what order we make signings. A back up keeper was one of the positions which needed filling though.

We know and I'd guess EBJ does too.

See this as a replacement for Slicker. The keeper position is different to others in that a club can seek an emergency loan outside of the window. Although in EBJ I trust I do hope this signing is a very cheap option, as I would not like to think that this has dented the budget for outfield players. I suppose there is a chance Kelly could go out on loan. On a positive if Eastwood can dislodge RD I would be well pleased as I Still think RD is one of the best in the division.

Connor Malley has signed for Dundalk.
0
January Transfer Window on 20:22 - Jan 12 with 2161 viewsBrierls

Wasn't expecting a keeper, I thought we'd stick it out with ROD and get an emergency loan if he got injured. That said, Eastwood looked solid in the couple of games he played, and he'll genuinely push an out of form ROD for the no1 spot. We cant' grumble at that.
