I was sitting in work the other day waiting for the comet halle Bopp to end my bored shitless torment when some bloke i work with, made a round of tea's and this young lad on work experience said 'Awesome' when he was handed the Mug.
He also uses the words , without fear nor favour, 'Sheesh', 'Dumb', Hi', and most unbelievably, 'Sucks'. A lot.
I was about to launch into a blitzkreig rant about Landing on the sea of fecundity in a tin foil space probe being 'awesome', Kubricks '2001' is 'awesome' , Franz Shuberts 'Trio In E flat' is ' awesome'. Dennis Hopper is 'Awesome'. Your very first ecstasy tablet charging through your soul cast from gods fourth rib, Is 'Awesome'... not some thin boned calcium deficent twot in a Average white band t shirt harnessing the power of mixing boiling water, a tea bag, and semi skinned in a Spurs Mug.
What stopped me from my middle aged rampage was the sight of this kids bag, With a dog eared , well worn , and Loved, copy of Bowies' Diamond Dogs' Lp, Sticking out .

Hey Disco man, it's gotta be 'young americans' just because it reminds me of my last summer of youthful exuberance. The summer I graduated high school and 8 months before joining the navy. Spent the late summer and winter of '75 with a sweet little thing by the name of Tina, bought her sparkle socks for Christmas, it was a thing back then. As was three stripped Adidas, as worn by Starsky, but couldn't afford to buy her those. Remember a quote from Frank Sinatra who was told that a movie bio of his life was being planned, and David Bowie was in the running to play him. 'over my dead body will that British freak play me' or words to that effect he is reported to have said. Jerk. Still think of Tina occasionally when walking the dog in the mornings. Life Flys by, this former young American is often pensive about the past but never sad.

aWWW man.... a lovely story. Bowie's music carry's us to memories of people that we loved that are so long ago, they flicker in black and white images.
'young Americans' Kills me.

Been waiting for someone to post this track, not waiting anymore. Excuse the use of the word awesome but hears an awesome verse from a lyrical epic.
*My little China girl You shouldn't mess with me I'll ruin everything you are You know I'll give you television I'll give you eyes of blue I'll give you a man who wants to rule the world*
My Father had a profound influence on me, he was a lunatic.

Ahhh ! That is tricky but without cogitating for too long Life On Mars will always be may favourite but of his post Let's Dance album where I think he wrote and recorded for himself not the rest of us - this is my favourite

I'm sure i've written about this clip of Bowie and Ronson on here before so i won't bore you yet again... It shook the country away from their Esso Blue parrafin heaters, frey bentos pies and double diamond for 3 minutes 54 seconds .
Two men arm in arm, in full make up, singing like oort cloud angles , androgynous snake hipped peacocks dressed in glitter jumpsuits when the D-mob suit was still in fashion down the local pub. The days when you got your head kicked in for having a right hand parting.
It beats Chicory tip and Bruce Forsyth on a saturday Night.

I used to play that track on rotation when i was in Rehab in the early 2000's.
It means the world to me, that track. I clung to it like driftwood.

What a glorious thread, thanks DD mate. So many amazing songs, so many incarnations, I decided to go with a perennial fave that was bang on for me in my late teens - the orginal version of the toon you posted, God I loved this when it came out!

I was born in 78 so I grew up with a distorted view of Bowie by hearing his cheesiest rather than his classics. Not long after I'd started drinking in pubs, bit by bit I understood what a true icon he is. Life on Mars for me
One of my boy's friends not only sees him as a legend but more like a prophet, apparently he's not the only one The next generation will keep Bowie relevant for a long time yet
One day I'm gonna write a poem in a letter One day I'm gonna get that faculty together Remember that everybody has to wait in line Blue Jean, look out world, you know I've got mine

Lucky enough to ‘meet’ Bowie on the set of Labyrinth. Whilst waiting for the lighting to be adjusted for the thousandth time I remember Bowie loving a bored Jack Purvis getting up in front of the crew to belt out Let’s Dance. Two men with lights dancing in their eyes and smiles.
Later getting more into his music - and connecting with pals in a Aigburth flat to David Live. Here Today, Gone Tomorrow - tell those you love now.

Love Bowie. Lucky enough to see him a few times, twice on the earthling tour. I like ‘let’s dance’ and ‘china girl’. I think he went off them , stopped playing them, which fueled the general dislike, but then he started playing them again? Ok, not Five Years but still enjoyable.
