Yes but this one includes a floating solar farm on Queen's Dock as well as floating houses and a battery production factory all on land and water owned by Association British Ports which is currently derelect and unused.

It will still be contentious Felix,I suggest.
People seem to rail against good projects or ideas and I think this is a very exciting idea

A major eco friendly project, I like the idea but will the Senedd back it? Then will Westminster?

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

It does not need Westminster approval it is all within the powers of Swansea City Council (planning permission)
Natural resources Wales ( environment certification) Senedd (As a major project needs their approval) Associated British Ports (the land and docks owner)

Time for Wales to step up. I know the jobs are not in Cardiff but good jobs in Swansea.

Jobs, homes, improvement of an area and renewable power. Would have to be pretty daft to be against that....

It depends on funding, wasn't the last project turned down by Westminster which ultimately was why it stopped? The Senedd don't have the financial clout to fund this and cannot borrow enough, or has that changed?

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

If it works, there must be some doubt or it would be built in Cardiff.

I can imagine what Dippy Drakeford's response will be, great idea but surely Cardiff Bay will be more suitable

You give it out, you take it back it`s all part of the game

No proper tide-the barrage filled the bay so it looks 'nice' and not the mud bowl of old when the tide was out. And destroyed wetland habitats.

Of course there were older plans for Severn barrage across the estuary to harness tidal power, but were never realised.

Westminster has to authorise the massive subsidies on the electricity produced whithout which the project is not economical.
£1.7Billion that won't even keep Swansea powered 24 hours a day.
How is dumping millions of tons of rocks in to Swansea Bay "Eco"?

Destroying habitat didn't bother Drakeford when it benefitted Cardiff then. The blokes a hypocrite.
I expect they'll turn down this project because it's not green enough.

No subsidies needed with the current rate of electricity prices. The solar farm output would make a profit on its own as well as the battery factory and housing. The funds are in place from America investors.
The Welsh government could even give the docks freeport status which would cut down taxes and planning timescales considerably.

it was started in 1994 so yes, before Drakefords time, maybe I was a bit harsh.

Maybe I'll revisit that statement when we see how much green land gets dug up for the Cardiff metro system!

Electricity prices are so high because of subsidies.
