I’ll start with a bit of Twitter tittle tattle, Andre Dozzell from Ipswich
Have a look at my tweet, that may help people trust the process, with some context. If we’re selling upwards I’m a bit confused if it’s not down to claiming money for a rebuild but I did hear Monday Dozzell to QPR was on.

I'd love (and will try again if I can get Warbs again this summer) somebody to explain why we need a 25-year-old fourth choice goalkeeper, who never plays for us, never sits on our bench, never plays for the U23s, and doesn't play when he goes out on loan. What is this for?
Target practice, probably when using live ammo.

Denver Hume, a left back released by Sunderland to fill a problem position. About as credible as Boris Johnson promises.

I think it's an all risks insurance policy. A very large bid comes in late in either window for Dieng and either Walsh or 3rd keeper pick up an injury in pre season or January. At least it leaves us with a keeper or two with some experience and protects us from being held to ransom whilst we seek a longer term replacement.

We have Masterson, Gubbins and Ball, who can play CB. We're well covered. Mind you, watching that Archer video we may need another 10 goalkeepers.
Hasn't Warburton said Masterson needs more lower League games for experience? Don't think he got it last season due to injury. Is Gubbins ready? I dont know much about him, but he's not got much League football experience. I know Ball, Kakay and Field can play there too, but I think trusting De Vijs (has he started pre-season training?), Barbet and Dickie to stay available all season with no qualified cover is a big risk. Cameron has gone.

Did we terminate Kelly's contract to let him go or did we get anything for him considering he was under contract still, apart from a taxi receipt?
Re Archer. He must have improved greatly if we are looking at him as cover. From what I have seen I would feel slightly more confident with Jude in goal. Will he be able to hold onto a pen long enough to sign a contract? If he has improved, fine but you do wonder.
However, in the balance of fairness these clips prove he can be a good stopper.
very clever save.
he seems to parry more than catch and a very odd choice of music bed which is a bit ominous.

Allegedly got £336k rising to £500k on one site, Archer not even signed & getting slagged off, can’t believe some on here, every player has off days & bad signings & we’ve had a few

That sounds like a good deal, cash plus (I imagine) reduced wage bill for changing reserve goalkeeper.
Hopefully Seny will be doing all the hard work and the additional cash and wages helps bring in someone like Johansen, then it seems like a risk worth taking.
If Archer's not as good as Seny or Kelly then our coaches need to work with him to help him improve.

After last season I think we can at least rely on Barbet!!!!!!!

Fair play stand corrected there are some excellent saves in those clips. Sadly we all tend to remember the howlers and blunders rather than the great saves. Still remember Rob Green when we went back to the prem first game either Bolton or Swansea he let a howler in…

I'm hopeful too that the coaching staff will have seen certain things that can clearly be corrected or improved on in some of Archer's play - you'd imagine they have.
I think we're also in the slightly odd position of having a potential future star of a goalkeeper on our hands, but no money to find a back-up good enough to really push him. I know the goalies can and will do that as a group anyway, but whoever comes in for next season really is a number 2, and obviously not every such player would be happy to be thought of as that.
So if Archer has that combination of coachable ability and is happy to fill the role at the right price then fair enough and best of luck to the lad.

I think its a waste of a wage and a pointless signing. I don't really agree that having an additional keeper on the bench as competition is going to make any keeper play better. Goalkeeping is largely about confidence and decision making and I don't see what difference having another keeper in the squad makes to those attributes.
Also, you can emergency loan a keeper if one or two get injured so I say go with Dieng, Barnes and Walsh and bring a keeper in if two of those are going to be out.

Except Walsh isn't ready and is expected to go out on loan to gain experience. That would have left us with Barnes as our only senior back up. We already know Seny is going to miss games because of AFCON.
Makes perfect sense to recruit a keeper who is prepared to play second fiddle for most of the season.

Not sure if he’s Aval but would have gone for lee camp as a decent back up keeper myself
If he comes, I don't know if he will be good or bad but one thing is clear from the latest clips is that he is not afraid to go down at the oppositions feet. If he arrives good luck to him I say.

Something else I haven’t noticed mentioned is that the AFCON is in January so presumably another keeper can be brought in on loan if needed.
I hope Archer does well, and can see the logic in signing him: Walsh will go on loan so we could do with an experienced Championship keeper as backup for Seny, Archer will be on a low wage and have no expectations beyond being on the bench, and it means we could sell Kelly for a fee and reduce the wage bill.
As Clive says, though, it does underline the absurdity of signing Barnes, if two years of coaching haven’t got him to a point where he can do that backup role, then what’s he for? Even when Seny’s at the AFCON he’ll still only be on the bench. Hopefully we can move him on and give that spot to an U23 keeper instead.
