Is it Palace for Eze? 10:48 - Aug 13 with 68015 views | NorthantsHoop | Yet more paper talk about Palace discussing buying Eze this morning. If it is all true, they do seem to be showing the most firm interest. Reckon if they up their bid to around £15m to £16m cash plus add ons to £20m we may bite. Don't think it would be a bad move for him, likely to get game time and the step up in the Prem with a mid ranking club. If he improves there then possibility of a bigger club next. Got to get a decent % sell on clause in the deal.

Is it Palace for Eze? on 17:31 - Aug 27 by MedwayR | I’m not surprised, I suspected from the start that we had targets within our means who we’d try to sign regardless of who left & that we wouldn’t buy direct replacements for Eze, BOS or Manning, instead banking the cash to use in future depending on how we get on and what’s needed. |
Agreed. That's how it's looked all along.

Absolutely, backed up by the Ramsey interview talking about only bringing people in that are already better than what we have in the building. Let's see who is looking good to step up or take their opportunity from the youth ranks. Some, like Oteh, have probably given their answers already. Others, like Hamalainen, Kakay and Shodipo have big seasons ahead of them.

5.18373 ft is 5ft 2.2 inches, not 5ft 1.8373 inches. Pedantry over for the day.
Is it Palace for Eze? on 18:01 - Aug 27 with 3504 views | Gloucs_R | So Ilias is one of the smallest professional footballers in the world. The smallest being 5-ft. The useless research that I do when I'm bored hey 🙄

A little bit of managing expectations and a little bit not wanting other clubs to think we've suddenly got £15m burning a hole in our pocket. Of course he's going to say that, and to a certain extent it's going to be true, but also we didn't have a bid in for Dickie on Monday and now we do, so there will be some additions that there wouldn't have been otherwise, and we need to get them right. They need to be sellable themselves in 18 months. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Have we definitely got a bid in for Dickie? I've scanned the United media outlets up here and theirs no news about that, only the odd comments about the up and coming friendly.

Seeing how many free transfers are still out there we could put together a decent side without spending fortunes. Most interesting bit was him saying those who are in last year of contract and refuse to sign won't be picked as only players who want to be here will be here.

Yeh I picked up on that. So that's Manning and BOS, who both played at the weekend.

It depends what you ask google to calculate to: If you ask for feet you will get five feet and two TENTHS of one foot. i.e. 5.18373 ft If you ask for feet and inches you will get five feet and two TWELFTHS of one foot. i.e 5ft 2 [Post edited 27 Aug 2020 19:11]

Not exactly a Luongo situation as he was signed for a 7 figure fee I believe whereas Manning and BOS were signed for much less and are under 23 graduates. If Manning doesn't sign then we sell to the highest bidder similar with BOS. We don't stand to lose much from either financially and will most likely gain. Of course they are two of our best players so we'd like them to stay but if not then thanks and goodbye. I'm actually quite encouraged by that link as it reads like we're beginning to get our act together as a football club.

Honestly, I know it's hard to tell these players but I don't think there's a better place for BOS or Manning right now. They should pen those contracts. They're settled, playing, on the cusp of potentially get the right move for their career, at a club that's getting a rep for developing players... I honestly think it is a no-brainer.

If I was them I'd want a bit of a look at Dykes. If Dykes does the business for us then BOS and Manning as wide men bombing forward and putting in the crosses could do very well and really get themselves in the shop window for next summer. They might also want to look at any defensive transfers. I think even without Eze we can be a good attacking team, the defence is still our weak spot. But if we improve it we could do OK next season, and being in a top 10 side could be good for their profiles. At age 22 and 24 time is on their side, better a good move next year than a crap one now.
Is it Palace for Eze? on 22:20 - Aug 27 with 2162 views | EmpireStateRanger | I wonder if Manning harbors any ill will for how he was handled in 18-19. He was loaned out after having a couple of promising seasons and getting ready for full-time duty. Different manager at the helm, I know, but I'm guessing that can stick with a player. Either way, I wouldn't be too heartbroken if he left. Good player, but I don't see him becoming a stalwart at LB. The options behind him aren't too promising, though.

Same here. Don't think he could cut it in the Prem myself. I think he is poor defensively, but great offensively. So best in a back 5. That said it's his first season playing there so he might improve his defensive side but as we are now, that's how I view him. I'd quite like to see him on the left of midfield, or even in the middle where I feel he was at his best when he started.

I'm really interested in Clive's idea of him playing as part of the three behind the No.9. Would like to see how that works out.

Think it was telling that Manning was back at LB against Wimbledon. This would be the time, if any, to try Manning further up the pitch, right?

makes sense really, can't have a situation where they are going to phoning it in around xmas as they have a bosman lined up, either sign and stay or go now. Both players must know if a decent offer comes in they'll get the move they want even if they sign a new deal. For me both need another year with us, neither are ready for a big move yet imo

After watching Manning over 4 seasons still don't know his best position. He has probably been most effective at LB, but his defensive positioning and tracking back can be a bit suspect at times. If we got a decent bid for him then should take it, likewise if he accepts a longer deal with us, would not be disappointed, does a job. BOS is another subject he was unplayable from November to March and really kicked on, unfortunately the Bruges offer totally threw him and lacklustre perfomances in lockdown. But we should try and give him the best possible deal and try and get an extension, he is the type of player that gets you off your seat. If he is good enough next season buyers will come in next season.

This worries me slightly as even though Manning offers much going forward, defensively he is susceptible to height, a weakness that is easily identified and exploited by opposition managers.
