My son is 6 and although it probably has condemned him to a life of sporting misery - he is an R. Even got his personalised shirt with number 9 on it because “9 is the man who scores all the goals” 😃

Yes, If you look at the 76 sunderland big match video you can get the impression of just how many teenagers / early 20's there were in the crowd. shame the quality isnt better as I cant quite spot myself in the loft as a 14 year old even though i know the area to look at We have become what what Brentford used to be, a bunch of primarily men of a certain age. And thats despite the best efforts of the club who I think in the last few years since we got relegated have done a pretty decent job of trying to attract a younger crowd Part of the problem is the quality of the team in comparison and part is that 13/14 year olds dont seem to go to football unless its with their parents whereas in the mid/late seventies and early 80's there were swarms of us that just jumped on the bus or tube and went with friends, cost is probably part of that plus more alternative distractions, plus more concern over protection/security of the kids its a tough one to crack

Yes all valid points plus the global media obsession with the Premier League and the constant televising of their matches. A lot of families choose the sofa and the relative cheap option of Sky etc instead of the effort and cost of regularly going to matches. It highlights the commitment and enthusiasm of those Championship, lower and non league supporters who regularly attend and bring their kids and sometimes partners as well. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Lee Hoos showed us a spreadsheet at a meeting a year or so back that broke QPR's supporter database down by ages. It was massively top heavy. The numbers of 0-20 year olds was frightening really.

I've had that reaction to my foreign language - cough - "skills" a number of times, from various nationalities. I might have said before but when we were on holiday in Biarritz, the staff at our nearest cafe were pretty surly until I tried a couple of words in Basque on them. Wow, the difference it made! After that, they'd wave at us even if we were just walking past and not coming in for a drink.

I have had that worry for quite a while - when you look around LR on matchday there are a lot of middle aged men. My own kids are supporters but don't want to go to more than a couple of games a year because they play sport an a Saturday, weeknight games not ideal for school etc. I don't think it is a unique QPR problem by any means but I think we are at the worrying end of it. I got invited to the Chelshite Ajax 4-4 game earlier in the season and noticed while there were not many kids there were a lot of blokes in their 20s which has not been the case at LR for some time. That being said the turnout at Wembley suggested there is latent support out there if the mix is right.

Young QPR fans have better things to do with their time than talk crap on a message board.

I’m a young 60 year old, if that counts. By and large, the shitter your team the older the fan base. We’ve been rubbish for the best part of 25 years, hence any supporters under 30 would generally be here courtesy of a parent. Since hooliganism became unfashionable, you can’t even build a younger support basis round that.
Who are the old gits on this site and the young bucks. on 00:48 - Jun 11 with 987 views | Myke | 57 in 5 days. Certainly here in Ireland, you can judge a persons approximate age by the team they follow. Derby/Leeds 59/62, QPR 57 (we only ONE season). Nottingham Forest 50/52. Man City 5/9 Chelsea 9/13. Liverpool 30/40 (or 0/1) All the original Man Utd fans are dead the Fergie kids are in their 20s
