We live in a “if it’s free i’lll take it” society. If you open a food bank a slob will use it. If you open 10 food banks more slobs will waddle along to grab some free food. How many food bank slobs own a mobile phone? Or smoke?
There hasn’t been a spike and there won’t be a spike. We are living in an advanced western country. We have experience of the virus now. Scientists are watching it like hawks. What we saw before was a fairly sharp rise in cases followed by a plateau and a gradual fall. That’s what will probably happen again. We might have to repeat this 8 or 10 times until we achieve herd immunity and the virus has nowhere to go.
This isn’t what people want to hear but it’s always been the plan because a vaccine is just a hope.

So you're quite happy to see the same people you were celebrating on Friday die, nice one.
That’s too simplistic, but there’s a degree of truth in there. I’m furloughed and loving it, as are work mates I’m keeping in touch with. If we get another 3 weeks off then happy days. I don’t think enjoying time with family and not getting bored at home is something to be embarrassed about. The only people saying they can’t wait to get back to work are either saddos, or liars that will say it in earshot of management to suck up to them.
However there is also genuine concern on health and safety grounds. This is where having good trades union representation is such a worthwhile thing. We have to learn to live with this virus but crucially employers must mitigate the risks by adapting working practices and providing PPE or potentially face corporate manslaughter charges.
Nothing wrong with enjoying time off but you appear to be having the slipping in to the sense of entitlement to benefits that many others are which are going to make it more difficult to fire up the country again.
As far as I understand it, you drive car transporters. Considering your industry is likely to be one of the worst affected in the coming years, I think you should be a little more concerned than you are mush, as it's pretty obvious there will be redundancies in your industry.
As for Health and Safety at work, of course, there should be rules that employers have to abide by. In your particular trade though, it's simple to reduce risk. If you make excuses not to go back it's likely you won't have a job to go back to in the end of it, so be careful what you wish for mush.
This is a spike. I wish people would stop using this term. I know it’s the in word and sounds good but nobody seems to know what it actually means. It’s like calling our flag the Union Jack. It’s not right.

I’ve not said I’m going to make excuses, I pay shop stewards to agree the details of what we are ‘collectively’ going to do.
Yep and I didn't see any Tories like you shedding a tear for those on universal credit and using foodbanks before this pandemic started. It's only now you Tory arselickers are looking like ending up at the bottom of the food chain you're suddenly bothered about it.
See, you just can’t help yourself, i haven’t mentioned politics at all, just how the government can deal with a previously unknown virus. Then you start to cry and soil your nappy, like you did when Norwich invaded your pitch. Poor little skate
So you're quite happy to see the same people you were celebrating on Friday die, nice one.
It’s irrelevant whether I’m happy or sad. It’s is what it is. The response to this virus has to be based on the very real premise of a vaccine never being developed. We can’t just stay locked down and keep our fingers crossed. Making sure the NHS isn’t overwhelmed and living with the disease until it dies out must be the strategy. Treatment will get better and If a vaccine comes along great.
I think this is an interesting take on the new messaging. Don't let the 'scientists for eu' put you off - it doesn't mention Brexit once! (And a prize to the first person who dismisses it as biased for that reason...)
It is a point of view on why a group of people (particularly Cummings) who have a history of brilliant messaging, have apparently put out something so vague.

I think Cummings has confused people somewhat by moving away from his proven 3-word formula:
Take back control Get Brexit done Whatever it takes Stay at home
Remember he decided that just the 2 words of 'Take control' would be less effective than the 3 words of 'Take back control.' Telling Boris to keep repeating, 'Stay alert' is about as vague as telling him to repeat 'Take control' would have been.
'Control the virus' adheres to his proven, successful 3-word formula and that's probably the slogan he should tell Boris to repeat.
