The fact we won and are through to round 2 cannot mask the fact that if we continue to play this style of football our already pathetic crowds will dwindle still further. Honestly can't remember the last time I sat and watched a game so devoid of excitement and passion. It really was that bad and I defy anybody who actually went to the game tonight to say that they enjoyed any aspect of it! Please BBM - lets see some positivity and give people a reason to part with their cash before it's too late and people find alternative things to do with their time and money!

It's a results business and we've played well against some teams this year without getting a result. We're carrying injuries and are struggling. The last thing this team need is cries and moans from the stands. What did the fans doing it thought they'd achieve? BBM and the players aren't going to turn around and sacrifice their plan and principles because Barry in the main stand is shouting get it forward!? Turns out though that some fans demand entertaining and winning football. Don't want much do they? [Post edited 20 Nov 2019 7:04]

We scraped through with resolute defending protecting mj Williams and the fact Wrexham had inept strikers. Here's hoping that the return of the two internationals at least gives us a bit more drive on Saturday.

TVOS: Dale v Wrexham (FA Cup replay) on 08:12 - Nov 20 with 1929 views | snuffler | That has got to be one of the most boring games for years I was so bored I started counting the number of passes we made before losing the ball , on average 23, that was just to get it to the halfway line. Our midfield is very slow with MJ and Ryan both looking to pass backwards or sideways all the time, runs were being made but the ball never went forward. If we play anywhere near that on Saturday we will get beaten easily | | | | Login to get fewer ads

We always get crap gates mid-week, worse so for cup replays so I don't think there's a massive shock in the crowd being low last night. As a pretty good comparison in terms of size of club usual crowd size etc, Burton got ~1400 last night. The other L1 teams all had low crowds of <50% of their normal league attendance. So we're not alone. Saturday league games are the ones to look at to see if fans are flaking off.
TVOS: Dale v Wrexham (FA Cup replay) on 08:39 - Nov 20 with 1870 views | Sandyman | I think back in particular to the home defeat v Sunderland. Dale were a joy to watch and were applauded off the pitch at full time after a harsh defeat. That style of play would've flattened Wrexham and several more in League 1 we have lost to since. Where has that drive and positivity gone? Post-match inquest - that was as bad as we played at Wrexham, but we got a well worked goal. Rochdale are now painful and boring to watch. Sideways backwards sideways backwards sideways backwards sideways backwards ad infinitum, oh, we're halfway up the pitch and we've lost the ball. That sums up too many Dale games these days. It certainly described most of the cup game last night . Four league defeats on the bounce and two very poor games against a struggling National League side suggest this method is not working.

A boycott isn’t going in protest. My point is the same people who normally go did, it wasn’t out of protest. The boycott point was a harmless bit of fun, given its your go to when not entertained.

TVOS: Dale v Wrexham (FA Cup replay) on 09:24 - Nov 20 with 1757 views | DaleFan7 | It was a very poor game. The only 2 players that could come out of it with any credit were Hendo, he had to come back to where Williams was playing to even get a sniff of the ball and O'Connell who was quite clearly the MotM, which against a bottom 4 National League side tells you all you need to know about the game. I'd love to see the stats of our proportion of backwards and sideways passes as opposed to forward passes. Keohane, Done and MJ's first thought when they get the ball and someone comes near them is to turn round and pass it backwards. Are they being told to do that or do they just know they've got no chance of taking anyone on? Camps was just pure lazy last night, the amount of balls he could have won or gotten to if he was on his toes but he didn't because he was just walking about looking like he couldn't be arsed being there at all. We have looked good this season and we have looked shocking. It would be nice even to just strike a balance. I can't see this team being relegated but I can see people stop coming and watching if this style carries on. I said in another thread it would feel like an EFL Trophy game and it did, if not worse. No one cares about the FA Cup these days unless we draw a big team. I can't see the crowd against Boston being much over 2,000 if it gets that high on a Sunday afternoon.

Not necessarily - we played entertaining attacking football against Sunderland, lost, and got a standing ovation from everybody in the ground. People appreciated the effort and commitment and went home having been entertained and not too disheartened by the result. Fair comment about the injury situation and also missing our 2 international players but even taking that into account does anybody think it acceptable that last night we had only 3 (THREE!!!) shots in 90+ minutes against a team near the bottom of the 5th tier. And it is not as if we can say it is just a one off - we have been stuck in this particular rut for several games now and the malaise seems to be getting worse! Can I repeat my question and ask you personally (honestly not trying to be snide or having a go) but did you go to the game and if so did you enjoy any aspect of it?

TVOS: Dale v Wrexham (FA Cup replay) on 10:56 - Nov 20 with 1586 views | 1907 | It was certainly an interesting evening, for all the wrong reasons. Some of the things being shouted in the main stand last night made my toes curl. I can't remember it being that bad/negative for a long while. I appreciate we want to play possession football but some of that last night can only be described as pointless, turgid & amateurish. MJ Williams performance was beyond poor. He will never look forward. Its actually strange to watch. What has happened to the bustling, powerful CM we saw earlier in the season? Pyke - no words. Keohane was another major issue. Never an attempt to go forward. Refuses to attempt to beat a man & try to put a cross in. Always a Cruyff turn back, putting himself under needless pressure & allowing Wrexham into the game. Done did however attempt to go forward, sometimes & also had a fantastic effort saved by the keeper. I really, really do not want to see Morley & Williams playing in a negative midfield two, drifting out to full back positions every time we get the ball leaving the middle of the pitch void again. I seriously do not understand what we are trying to achieve by playing like this, other than creating no outlets for fullbacks to release the ball to without going backwards. It really was a poor game of football & an equally poor performance from our lads. I understand that football is a results business & ultimately we won the game. Whatever restraints we are up against & with the players we had on the pitch last night against that level of opposition, we just have to do better. We have had so many issues with injuries & international call ups this season, it is just ruining whatever momentum we seem to be able to get going. I'm trying to remain positive & I would never verbally abuse our players at game, but I'm just feeling really downbeat after last night. Frustrated.

‘Go to’? I think I said it once. If we were playing well, the crowd last night would have been bigger, probably by a few hundred. A lot of people I know gave it a swerve, I wish I had

I didn't go so can't and won't say too much about that performance per se, but this "style and type of game" is not something that hasn't been on display several times before. The most worrying thing for me is the prospect of relegation. I don't think we are sufficiently bad, when at full strength, to fall into the bottom three, but that is only my guess. If the unimaginable did happen though, are the likes of Wrexham, who we managed to beat 1-0 on aggregate over two legs, our natural level playing in this manner with these tactics? If so, not good. Our forwards need far better service - three shots against a side two tiers down from us isn't good enough. Time for a shake up in how we assess risk/reward (the aim of the game is to score goals, especially at home) and set our side and game-plan out to achieve this objective. I know we have limited resources and players missing. That doesn't mean we have to stop looking to play forward passes (not necessarily hoofing) and attacking. I'd rather go down swinging for the fence than with barely a whimper.

TVOS: Dale v Wrexham (FA Cup replay) on 12:07 - Nov 20 with 1466 views | jonahwhereru | Was not there last night, but the stats and sentiment on this board are worrying. All teams get injuries, Coventry have had a torrid time with them. I know a players stock rises when they are not available, and have never understood why that scenario is so prevalent. My concern is players in the starting 11 leaving their skills in the locker and why that is happening. Keohane can get forward and put in a telling cross (see the opening game at Southend) Morley can stretch a defence with a raking pass Williams can play a Defense splitting pass and shoot well from distance (re his pass to Done and shot against MK) Camps can mesmerise a defender and play dangerous ball into the area (re the Coventry game) So what is stopping these and other squad players displaying their qualities during most games. Some teams are much better than us, I get that. But many aren’t, including last night. Is it confidence, tactics or some other reason. For the games to be more enjoyable for the punters I think the players just need to be told to back themselves and express themselves on the pitch. If you enjoy your work you perform better. If you do do what you do best you enjoy your work. Feel we are at a crossroads for the season now. Mentally the players need to be right, and liberated from what inhibits them. Over to BBM and the back room. They have my full confidence, and I mean that!
