I was thinking the same. He'd be good for at least another season at this level

Yes he did according to the article in the Sun that someone posted on here. A genuine clubman for us with a lot to give on the pitch. His treatment by the American owners shows how morally bankrupt the tawats are.

Wouldn’t have made any difference. It was appearance based, that’s the reason Potter wasn’t allowed to play him. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Yes, but Routledge had that removed from his contract, and that's why he made himself available to us knowing his contract wouldn't be automatically extended for another year.

I hope he stays, just wonder if its all going to be hinging on what happens with GP.

It's all going to hinge on what happens with both Ayews, Baston, Carroll and a couple of others. As it was last summer. And last January.

He's not wrong though is he? Routledge has been gash for most of the last three years. Played decently towards the end of last season though. Decently enough for a near 35 yr old on a decent wage to get a new contract? Maybe. Maybe not.

Unfair to say he was gash when managers chose not to play a system suited to his strengths. Potter turns up and hey presto he's a world beater. And I also disagree with the hairy dullards assertion that he's only had a few good games toward the end of the season. So no, he's not right.

No, we get relegated to a lower standard and he looks half tidy again. I'll grant you that systems help, but not to the extent that he's been rejuvenated, or to the extent that he struggled to even do the basics as much he did in our last few seasons in the Prem. He's looked best in the games where we've played him up top. We haven't done that in many games in total.

Factually correct but if you look behind the facts: He was cr@p in teams that played rubbish football. We go back to playing our former style of football and he fits in. Admittedly in a lower division but he fitted in perfectly. Wayne was an excellent signing, the type of signing we made before our recruitment completely lost the plot and the type we need to make again. Comparatively cheap and fitted the style of football we wanted to play. Worth another season on a mutually acceptable contract in my opinion.

You can't have a contrary opinion anymore Dar. It's like those that have a pop at a few of us who can't understand the Potter love in. Imagine we were Brighton right now and the favourite to boss us in the top level was a manager that can't coach a defence? We'd be full of it.
